Just a minor correction:. This lens was NOT a medium format lens, it was designed as a 35mm format lens. Mounts available: M42 mount EXA / Exakta Batonet Mount Praktica B mount (branded as Prakticar 3.5 / 135 MC) Contax

@@RyanJosephLong Hey, no worries man. No one does their homework before preaching anything on RU-vid. You don.t owe an apology to anybody for spreading misinformation. But thanks a bunch for it. I subbed!!!! ;-) BTW, it's pronounced Yena, if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about.

The lens is a 35mm format lens. It is a 135mm lens on full frame not a 67mm equivalent. It was used on M42 Praktica bodies. It is very good.

If you put it through a lense calculator it says it's about a 67mm its way too wide to be a 135mm it was meant for medium format.

@@RyanJosephLong You can put any lens through a 'calculator'. The format that the lens was designed for depends on the mount, not the focal length. This lens was designed for 135, not medium format. I don't know where you got 67 mm from. To go from 35mm to 6x6, for example, you multiply by 1.6. For 6x7, you use 1.8. To go the other way, you multiply by 0.6, or 0.8 for 6x7. And in German, J is pronounced as a Y. And Oberkochen is pronounced wrong too. Do your homework first before you spread misinformation. It just makes you look like a fool. I certainly won't be subscribing. PS - Why can't Americans pronounce foreign words correctly? Can't be bothered trying, perhaps? It is really irritating. A good example - The Dutch painter is NOT pronounced Van Goh. It's not even close. I think "Hodgepodge" is quite appropriate.

In the case of CZJ and anyone else designing lenses the size of the image circle is a good indicator of purpose. Ideally you go for the biggest image circle you can get and then place your film plane so that it is well inside the image circle. Many CZJ lenses were designed with 6/9 and larger formats and then adapted down for use on 35mm. Same image circle but smaller format. Your idea is fine, many older lenses were repurposed to 35mm from medium and large format. Many Pentacon Six lenses have adaptors for other mounts and formats. The idea of equivalency only arose because 35mm became the most popular film size and people wanted reference points for the effects that different focal lengths gave on smaller than 35mm formats such as APSC. 135mm lenses on 6/6 would have the same angle of view as an 85mm lens. On 6/7 it would have the angle of view of a 65mm lens and on 6/9 it would have the angle of view of a 55mm lens. It is a 135mm lens on all formats but, the angle of view the format selects from the projected image circle is different.

@@jonneville2287 lol complaining about people not knowing foreign languages is very amusing. You may be well versed in lenses, but not people.

Just to clarify, a 135mm lens on a medium format camera is still a 135mm lens on a 35mm camera. On a medium format camera, the angle of view will be wider because of the larger sensor size. A 135mm lens on a 6x6 camera will have the same angle of view as a 75mm lens on a 35mm camera (6x6 crop factor of .55), but when you put it on a 35mm camera, it will have the same angle of view as any other 135mm lens.

Wide open is not incredible sharpness. It's good but it's not incredible. And there certainly is chromatic aberration wide open if you shoot it in the correct kind of situation to test for CA. It is low CA, but it's there.

I have one I got with a practika camera. It's nice, but sadly it has a little of fungus in one corner and I don't have the ability and tools to open it and clean it.

Hodgepodge, thanks for the footage, that was really nice, wow this lens truly has some character. I love the footage produced by this lens. I intend to pair this lens with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K Micro Four Thirds mount. Your thoughts on this pairing?

I think it would be sweet! Just remember it's a medium format lens so you might get something more like a wide angle like 30 mm it's like a 55mm on my full frame

Even if it's a 200mm designed for a 4x5 inch sensor, put up on a 35mm sensor and it'll still be a 200mm lens. There is no conversion on full frame, since full frame is the stick to measure with.

The focal length will still be 135mm. The focal length stays the same despite the sensor size. Only the angle of view changes accordingly. 135mm lens with 18.5 degrees diagonal angle of view on a full frame, becomes 135mm with 12.3 degrees diagonal angle of view on a sensor with 1.5 crop factor. 12.3 degrees is a typical angle of view for 200mm lens, hence the misunderstanding. Since the A6300 sensor is 1.5 times smaller than 24x36 (now called a full frame), for which BTW these lens were designed for, the crop factor is 1.5. CZJ Sonnar 135/3.5 is a great legacy glass, sadly a lot of misinformation in this video. 😔
