Today I became a happy owner of this lens for only £49. I’ve bought it at the Real camera in Manchester, they had 3 copies and could choose the best one. Thank you for inspiring me. Now I have 2 135mm lenses.

They are so cheap but so, so good. It blows my mind that they aren't yet considered a classic alongside the Helios 44 58mm lenses. Do not hesitate, just buy one. Also fairly easy to service as well.

Thank you for this review. I've just been going through testing a large collection of old lenses and rediscovered this truly excellent lens. It's very useable even at f3.5 but begins to sharpen up very quickly and is impressively sharp at f8 and only really softens a little at f22.

@VintageOptiks This lens, like some others, was made for certain Praktica models, as can be seen from the three slightly protruding brass contacts on the M42 screw thread. Of course, these can also be used on all other cameras with an M42 Mount or adapted accordingly, but these three brass contacts also have a function. These contacts were used to enable TTL metering in certain Praktica models. These Praktica models are: - Praktica LLC - Praktica PLC2 - Praktica PLC3 - Praktica VLC - Praktica VLC2 - Praktica VLC3 - Praktica EE2 - Praktica EE3 Just a little more information, in case it wasn't already known. 😉 Greetings from Northern Germany

Another nice video on an other nice lens! Thanks. I have both copies in my big vintage collection. The older zebra and the MC version. The later one feels much better and smooth in focusing. Image Q is excellent in both where the cooler colours, or realistic colours of the first copy is great, the colours of the second is magic.

I have that lens and I sometimes use it on a GFX 100S and it is amazing even with 102 Mpixels at full sensorsize. That is insane for a eastgerman lens from the 70s.

Very good insight about this classic lens. I'm collecting and using Canon FD lenses since more than 40 years. First version of the Canon FD 3,5 135mm S.C. was a similiar Sonar-design. The later versions were Ernostar designs. The first version has a shorter build rubber grip than the Ernostar versions.

Mine's the zebra version, most likely from 1967, judging by the serial number in the low 8 million range. I bought it used at its average market price but it came in pristine condition, safely stored in its original box. I think this version is only single coated. The images it produces are razor sharp. I absolutely love it.

I miss your reviews, I hope there'll be new ones in the near future. I always come back to them when I consider a lens, or buy it (like this one, which I'll soon get). The photos themselves deserve as much attention as the review part. Do you perhaps upload some of them somewhere, like a blog or social media?

That looks good - I like 135mm, it's quite a nice focal length for detail shots and close ups - not in a macro sense, but flowers and things can look amazing. I think I'd rather have the big focus throw of that lens than the tiny focus throw of a Makinon lens that's in my "to be repaired" pile - it's about 90 degrees from close to infinity - I haven't tried it out yet but I expect that it won't be that nice to use! Great video as always :-)
@VintageOptiks

Yeah I love 135mm lenses especially when I travel and want to photograph some wild creatures. The extra reach comes in very handy! And the great thing about this Sonnar is that it has a MFD of only 1m which is awesome for 135mm lens. I also love the long focus throw - it makes for very precise focusing! A great lens all around! Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Thank you very much for your review: I am in the process to find a clean copy. Many talks are going around about the many versions of this lens, some saying the FOUR DIGIT version MC should be the best. What is your opinion about? I thank you if you are so kind to answer.
@VintageOptiks
@VintageOptiks 2 года назад
You are welcome! Regarding the different versions - I can't speak of all the versions out there, because I have'n tried them all. But I can highly recommend the version that I reviewed here on the channel. It is the late iteration of this lens with excellent coatings on the elements which give you contrasty images with beautiful colors! I hope this helps and I hope that you'll be happy with this lens once you get to try it. Take care.

Thanks again: the lens number you reviewed here, following production number published on the net (Nadir Magazine) , should be from production year between 1975 and 1980 . I'll try to find a copy from that period.@@VintageOptiks

Hi meistro! What are your top 3 vintage cheap 135mm lenses, now after all that time?
@VintageOptiks
@VintageOptiks Год назад
Hello! My top 3 cheap lenses in that focal length will have to be the Auto Sears 135mm f2.8 (made in Japan version, like the one I reviewed), the Minolta MC Tele Rokkor X PF135mm f2.8, and the Nikkor QD Auto 135mm f3.5. The Sears and the Nikkor are still super cheap, but the Minolta is my favorite from the 3. Cheers!
