As a 911 dispatcher: Carly had no urgency in her voice, seemed like she was reading from a script she wrote. Sex Trafficking happens every single day and to take that away from other victims is downright ignorant. If you wanted a break from life fine do so but don’t make false claims to the PD. I hope she gets fined & gets jail time for wasting the PDs resources & time to locate her & the imaginary child!!

As a long time resident of Hoover, I’m so proud of our police chief and his officers. I’ve known Chief Derzis for over 30 years and he is a good man. I’m also proud of our community’s response to searching for Carlee. There was a tremendous outpouring of love, prayers, and support to her family, friends, and law enforcement. I’m so thankful that she is safe and back home, but it breaks my heart to learn of the malicious hoax Carlee concocted that wasted so much time, money, resources, and emotional distress for so many people.
I guess Carlee has never seen Forensic Files or any show like that because she did a horrible job at disappearing. The fact that she was searching on her phone about Amber Alerts and Taken is insane to me.
It just shows she is not very bright or street smart. Now, she comes across as immature, spoiled and entitled. She conducted herself like a teenage girl. She is a grown 25 yr old but her mentality in infantile. If you want to disappear from your parents be a grown woman and tell them you are leaving. You don't fake your abduction.

Her comments regarding not being tied up confirmed it for me. “They blind folded me, they didn’t tie me up because the abductors didn’t want to leave impressions on my wrists” typically when people lie, they begin to give unnecessary details.
This is turning out to be exactly what my gut was telling me it was! And because of it, she has wasted an immense amount of resources, caused distress to millions of people who knew and didn’t know her, brought shame on her family, and showed a vast amount of disrespect and insensitivity toward women and children who actually go missing each and everyday, around the world. I hope they prosecute her to the fullest extent of the law!
@petrolane2025 Initially I had no opinion about it because I wasn’t following the story at all. I’m on RU-vid everyday so I merely saw video headlines about her disappearance, but I didn’t actually watch any of the videos, or the news on TV, nor read up on it anywhere else. I remember my sister mentioning on the phone that she had been found alive. Which was so random at the time, because we were in the middle of a conversation about something completely unrelated and we had never spoken of her disappearance or the child she supposedly saw. It was only because she said, “…Alabama girl…’” that I knew who she was talking about. My response was simply, “Oh ok,” and then we went back to our conversation. For whatever reason, I really had no interest in the case, which is unlike me because I’m a very compassionate person. But there just seemed to be something inside that I can’t explain, that was disconnected from the whole thing. That was until, I heard that she somehow escaped and walked home. Now I’m not saying that isn’t possible or that no one has ever done that before, but I instantly didn’t believe that SHE had done that. And that was the moment that I got interested in the story and the truth of what really happened.
I really do feel sorry that she felt the need to do this. There must be something missing in her life that is making her so sad and alone. I hope she gets the help she is obviously screaming for. Let's all follow this story with gentle hearts.
My 14 year old son disappeared in 2009 and I still can’t get the Ottawa Ontario Canada police to investigate it they say he ran away so he’s not a missing person because of attention seekers that said they saw him this whole story makes me sick.

Press conference was handled very well. The chief gave an awful lot more information than he needed to, and I think he did a great job at allowing us to read between the lines. He doesn't buy it for a second. Time will tell on this one.
I myself and so many people like myself was heartbroken hearing the news of her missing. Just to now know it was not true is absolutely disgusting. She need to be charged and get counseling because she lied and went this far for attention . Shame on her. Smh!

I’m in the UK and I was 100% invested in this from the moment I heard she went missing which was not really too long after her 911 call I believe, I was so worried about her and this child that she had stopped to help, I was so disappointed to hear that she’s made it all up and wasted so many resources but relieved that she was safe and hadn’t suffered and the child was none existent so also ‘safe’ but I was so happy to see how quickly officers rushed there and then more were sent to help search, drones were sent almost immediately and they had the phone company pinging the phone within minutes to find her, I am in awe of the speed and efficiency that the police department acted, it gives me so much hope that many future cases will be resolved so quickly before anyone gets too hurt or taken too far away etc if they’re responded to like this, which can only be a good thing! I’m still mad that she did this but I think it’s done this police department a favour in a way, as it really shined a spotlight on them and their response to this kind of incident and they really showed their efficiency and professionalism and I’d feel very relieved if I lived there, that they handle things this way, I’d feel very safe I think!

Legit though, you can tell this man is there to do a job... They asked him a gotcha question about being frustrated, and he responded immediately and genuinely and without even a hint of frustration or holding back. You could tell he was honest with his thoughts and was doing his best to be respectful to everyone involved, including his community.
As someone who works in Hoover I'm so greatful to Chief Derzis for doing this press conference and revealing the truth. (or the truth so far) The fact that this was a hoax is horrible and sad, but I'm also glad there's no threat to our community. The Hoover PD did a great job in this weird case and shows they really care about the people in this city.

This department and Chief did an excellent job at getting all the facts up to this point. He was very respectful to Carlee and the family. I’m a former Crime Scene Technician who worked alongside many Officers and Detectives, I always appreciate when they showed compassion to their alleged victims. Even though Carlee turned out not to be a victim in this case. Glad she is safe but I pray she gets the help that she needs. ❤

I'm willing to bet that there were a number of people in this young lady's life who now feel vindicated because of this incident. This isn't the first time she has created some elaborate "illusion". This is just the first time she has not only took it to this extreme, but also got caught. Everyone who has been enabling this behavior has a very hard decision to make at this point. If they defend her and she only gets a slap on the wrist, she will escalate to a situation that will put people in real danger. And even if the justice system doesn't hold these people accountable, their community will.
Absolutely. This speaks to her character. She might have been a horrible person for years and never was held accountable as others suffered in silence. I saw a video on Pink Book Lessons that details a post she made that seems to suggest that she is a real mean girl. I feel so sorry for her parents because this is extraordinarily embarrassing and they have to still live and work in the community. Shame on her. Police can’t force anyone to talk to them until they are formally charged and arrested. Until your arrested, you have the right to not speak with law enforcement. You maintain that right after arrest too, but you can be interrogated at that point, like it or not - but you maintain the right to remain silent. Police can’t force anyone to tell them anything.
People, please don't let this one bad actor deter you from calling police if you see a child or someone in distress. Don't get out of your car until police arrive. We have a human trafficking pandemic. Stay faithful.

We've always told our children that if they mess up, no matter how bad, come talk to us first. Don't try to cover up by lying, as to continue to lie only makes matters worse. This went way further than it should have. Now there's no going back. As a parent, I would have had a "sit down" with the investigators rather than going on the Today Show, because I find it hard to believe that the parents didn't sense early on that something was off.
This really upsets me I was praying so much for her, and when people started speculating that it was a hoax, I just didn’t want to believe it. Truly disappointing.
