It's curious how is actually the backhand the weapon alcaraz is using more to push back his opponents on the court... His BH is getting scary

Alcaraz has improved his backhand so much this tournament. It is more of a weapon, and a dictating shot, rather than the counterpunch stroke it used to be.

I wanted to comment the same thing, his backhand is crazy. Only a few players can generate that much power with it.

I think Carlos is steadily transforming himself into The Beast. As he makes that explosive forehand more reliable and gets more power on the backhand, he'll make himself almost unbeatable. My favourite player is Jannik - but an improved Carlos will be beyond him, I think....
@m.a.g.3920
@m.a.g.3920 2 часа назад
He just needs to adapt more into defense mode sometimes, just to "fool" the opponent, because sometimes you cannot be 100% attack. Sinner knows this
@Askaa88
@Askaa88 3 часа назад
0:20 Players are overplaying the between the legs shot way too often nowadays. He had plenty of time and could've played a normal shot and the chance of staying in that point was pretty high. Once a special shot with high "wow-factor", now an ordinary shot with the likeliness of them missing is like 90% just to show off nothing.
@mclovin9354
@mclovin9354 2 часа назад
You’re absolutely right, he was in a good position for lobbing or even try to turn around quickly and hit a forehand, in any case better than try a useless tweener resulted to drop out of the corner(kacha doesn’t even have that level of skill/sensibility to produce that kind of shot). Only if you’re behind the baseline or close to it running back with the ball getting far from you it’s a good idea to go between the leg, just because you’re practically out of the point and is the last desperate chance to get back into it

@pureffm
@pureffm 2 часа назад
Despite the Olympic games, he didn't play much this season because he was injured for a few masters tournaments. People have attributed his poor matches against VDZ, and Monfils as playing too many matches but it was more mental fatigue after the Olympics than anything else. Physically he is in better shape than last year for the last stretch of the season. And let us not forget he only played 2 rounds of US open!

He's been in crazy shape since Indian Wells. He got injured in Miami and missed most of the clay swing then came back and won Roland Garros, Wimbledon and Olympic Silver medal. Then had a bad phase due to fatigue. Now he's back in form feeling fresh and hungry.

Peak Alcaraz comfortably beats peak Sinner. Across the year, average Sinner is considerably better than average Alcaraz. Who wins in the final, if they both make it through, depends on who turns up.

No way Sinner is clear favourite
@АндрейШелест-т8в
Not on fast hardcourt thought. They met last year in this tournament. Alcaraz played lights out during the first set and still lost it, then couldn't maintain his level and got eaten by Sinner. This year they played in 2 of Alcaraz's best conditions and both times it was really hard for Carlos. If prime version of Spaniard meets prime version of the italian, surface can be very impactful

Alcaraz has pigened him. Carlos being one of the fastest guys on tour means he'll always have the defensive advantage against a big guy like Karen but Carlos also has more power than him, that's absurd. What can Karen do against that? The guy is so much faster than you but also has more powerful strokes despite being a lot smaller and much better net game, technique, touch and variety. Really bad match up for Khachanov.

Carlos has improved a lot on faster hard courts, his down the line shots are much better, his backhand is now flatter and more lethal, his serve is turning into a weapon with better placement, he returns deep, he is hitting his spots really well. Very nice to see. The true test will be against Yannick, when Carlos is rushed for time, can he maintain his agressive pace and shot placement? Carlos seems fresh and hungry, this bodes well for his next two matches!
@wave1468

Yeah, he didn't do great around this time last year, so I bet he's eager to improve it. And I think it's only the faster hard courts like Beijing, Shanghai that he needs to improvise, I think the slower courts like Indian Wells and Miami he's pretty good on
