Actually, Marcus had lost his ability to play over the DECADES of barely, if at all, touching the Congas. Carlos has given him thousands of dollars to get back on his feet, his own set of Congas, as well as a chance to play with his (Santana's) official tribute band. The dude is really rusty and you can see it. There's videos out of Marcus and Carlos in Carlos's studio and Marcus is jamming. It's not bad, for messing around.. But for AAA shows, especially at a HOB show in Vegas (Carlos's state/city of residence) no less? Unfortunately, it's sub-par quality for a show that people are paying for. Look at Michael Carabello (Original Italian Conga player with the fro after Marcus was arrested for Manslaughter) after the Original lineup reunited for Santana IV and their tours. He can't slap those Congas nowhere near as fast as he used to, or as accurately. You're literally beating the sh*t out of your hands, in an intense fashion no less. That takes its toll. Marcus hadn't played in so long... I feel for a man who slept with another man's wife, got caught and killed the husband in a fight that ensued... Marcus is actually doing quite well. Santana treated him with love, respect and a hell of a lot of money and free equipment donations thus far. He could have acted like he didn't even know him. They already refuse to acknowledge Jose "Chepito" Areas exists.. He caught a felony for child molestation and they don't invite him back, ever. I hope this clears the air as their are quite a few folks here that are upset from not seeing Marcus.
Thanks for setting the record straight on this. The torrent of vindictiveness toward Carlos-- esp. after all his generosity and good will-- is shameful. So easy to blame; so hard to reflect. Moral posturing, and endless adjudication w/o regard for facts is ripping this society apart. No due process; just a perverse delight in condemning. Everything Carlos' art is meant to heal. Sad.
You are right, but was really it so irreparable for Malone? If the man fucked his second chance because of his bad attitude, that's clear, but otherwise I believe he could regain his abilities, to a certain needed point anyway... If the man had the swing it doesn't go away.

Marcus Malone died Jan 2018 … I don't think Santana bullshitted him, he got him a place to live. He likely couldn't keep his promise about featuring Marcus on the album because Marcus really couldn't play anymore.

I love how Carlos Santana. I am a 56 year old African American woman, who grew up listening to so much of Mr. Carlos Santana’s in our home. I loved how Mr. Carlos Santana, showed his respect for his longtime friend, with no judgement only kindness and gentleness. Mr. Marcus Malone, is a handsome man with such a humble demeanor.
