"We tend to look for greatness in always in somebody else rather than yourself - go inside and find your sound" "you can only go into the heart, by you being vulnerable yourself."
@@greenrobot5agreed, they all fulfill their egos based on them wanting to play their favorite bands. It’s not just the band or artist but the vibe and aesthetic, it’s ok to be inclined in the fashion n vibe of it but don’t get too deep into it because that’ll make you a try hard, and I’m referring to those bands that try to bring the 70s/80s (thrash metal)/90s (grunge, nu metal, death metal)
“The real musicians make the ugliest to create the most beautiful note.” John Mayer Jimi Hendrix Carlos Santana SRV Alex Lifeson John Frusciante Carlos is the man.
"When you play music, you're bringing light into the darkness" - Carlos Santana That hits the nail right on the head and is the best quote I've ever heard about music! Thank you Carlos! :)
One of the few Woodstock generation musicians that's still musically relevent today. I interviewed him at length during the promo for the Shamen album. Always a hero of mine he was brutally honest about how unhappy he was as the Haight scene imploded and drugs darkened his life. Embracing spirituality has totally changed him and his art is infinitely better for it. One love Carlos. Keep shining baby!
I know at least 10 unknown guitarists who play circles around this guy. The only thing going for him is his name and his ability to play the Pentatonic scale.
@@Versul1 wrong focus, wrong topic, wrong attitude. It is about music - not about challenge or competition. If you know at least 10 guys who can play circles around Santana - wtf, boy? Who gives a damn about that statement. Take a guitar, create your sound and then play in front of a crowd. And let them tell how good YOU are in entertaining them. That's it! Idiot!
@@joe22589 when I say circles around him I am not just talking about dexterity. I am also speaking of bringing more musical ideas to the table. Carlos Santana's playing is so predictable that just about anybody who can play the pentatonic scale can sound like him. I am telling you as a musician who's played in a lot of bands there are a lot of unknown players better at the craft. I will give you that at a certain level there is no such thing as the best guitarist because everyone brings different things to the music. Carlos Santana is not on that level.
You my mentor Carlos. I will play this clip every morning as my day begins...I saw you play in Sydney Australia in 1972. You were the first guitar player I ever saw who played with body and soul. I didn't need to watch your fingers because the music came to me through your entire body. Respect.
I have played guitar for 35 years and I draw the soul of my playing from Carlos, he has been the greatest inspiration, his tone his heart his philosophy. I had heard about this masterclass so I was looking forward to it, I know most of it will be about attitude, tone, connection with your audience, and really meaning it when you play so you can make that connection. Music is a magical thing that is a privilege to play, it has the most amazing effect on people, never question it just channel it as best you can. Carlos has a wealth of knowledge to impart about this as he has a wealth of experience. Carlos you have come to this place after the longest of journeys, you have many thousands of followers both musicians and music listeners, please think again about the cost of imparting this knowledge as many people won't be able to afford it. Peace my brother, keep the music coming.
Raneshan Subban. Surviving the industry for almost 5 decades, takes a lot of strength and stamina. I think he’s done a brilliant job. He’s a smart man.
Wow have always loved Santana and his wonderful musicians. Some of the best albums ever recorded Abraxas and Caravanserie. What a great guitar sound in the clip
Listening to Santana’s first three albums back-to-back to me out of a pretty bad place a few years back. Those albums continually take me to a happier place ☮️
Carlos, My pleasure to meet & talk with you over our love of great music! Congratulations on your recent tour❣️ Sending positive vibes, Peace Love & dream❗️😌💞😁
Been spinning your vinyl since I was 4 years old. I'm 46 this year. I've made MANY FACES to your melodies and riffs over the decades😆... And your music definitely resides in MY heart and soul as well Mr Carlos Santana!!! ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
In 1977 @7yrs old, i discovered a 1970 45 b-side called 'Hope You're Feeling Better' and i took notice right away; even more so w/'Black Magic Woman...thank you Mr. Santana!
Hi Carlos!, I'll never forget the 1979 "A Decade of Music tour", best concerts ever!, ( performance on "Transcendence" WOW! ) )big fan since 1969. Thank you for all these years of awesome! music. Peace!
I have 13 years and I am mexican. I saw you at house of blues in Mandalay and I love your music, you were the reason why I picked a guitar (forgive my horrible english please)
I never clicked faster in my life when I got the notification. Just as I was brainstorming ideas for my music career. With Santanas help it will be easier to succeed. Looking forward to this, Mr. Santana you're a huge inspiration to me and also all the other rock gods who came together at Woodstock. Wish I could have been there. Anyways I am ready to attend class maestro😂
Besides being my very first exposure to the concept of a "guitar hero", Carlos also regrettably introduced me to the never-ending rabbit hole of PRS Guitars; every time I think "Nah, I don't really need one", I see a guitar, like the one in this video, that makes me go "Ramen for 6 months doesn't sound SO bad." Seriously though, this is probably more of an insight/interview and general tips for more seasoned and experienced players rather than an actual "class" -- this isn't aimed at players just starting out or even the fairly advanced; this is for Carlos Santana fans and guitarists who are trying to figure out what makes his style stand out. Looks cool for what it is, but it's not really a "masterclass" per se.
@@ivansantiago4800 dude I am a educated and professional musician and you are obviously a fanboy who knows nothing about modes and progressions. Do my HW? Lol get educated. Carlos like many blues based guitarists is stuck on the pentatonic scale.
I love how much he puts an emphasis on just really losing yourselves in the music. I immediately thought of Stevie Ray Vaughan when he said something like "the ugliest faces make the prettiest sound."
Also Carlos, Thank you for our Beloved PRS Guitars. Which yeah they are so good they would have eventually gotten out, but you were the one lighting a fire under this great guitar. Funny in 1973 I purchase A Gibson L6S a couple weeks later saw the poster with you playing one. My only complaint I guess is the nut could have been wider, I have big hands and I felt that neck a little narrow. But that guitar introduced to me all the options of hyper wiring a humbucker.
I have been described as a good kind of crazy through my music and puppetry and it is so reassuring to hear that it is ok to make strange faces while you play. Thank you Carlos.
Un encuentro entre la inmensidad del universo y tu interior al unísono viajando por ella !! Oírlo , sentirlo y disfrutarlo en Un concierto en vivo y a todo color es lo Máximo !!WOW!! ✊😎👍
Santana's first statement, about light into the darkness, makes me think of some words of my own. I dismantled a CRT monitor recently and there was a piece like a bulky cone around the electron generator, with wire coils that direct the electrons toward the screen, it looks like a speaker cone and I called it "speaker for images". You know, because it gives off images instead of sounds.
Espero que uno de los más grandes guitarristas de todos los tiempos te de corazón si es así dejame decirte que le debes sacar screanshoot y guardarla fotocopiarla y atesorarla de por vida
Although PRS has rewarded you with your very own and my favorite head stock. They have built some beautiful guitars for you. Very deserving. Best of lick Carlos. And Long life. Many dear musicians from that eara have died recently heart breaking.
