Next stop on our Full Time RV journey is Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico. We wanted to see more in the area but winter weather and freezing temperatures were encroaching. Not good for living in an RV!

The free BLM boondocking campsite we found was perfect for life as a full time RVer. We planned on dry camping there for much longer than we did. There is so much to see in the area and in the state of New Mexico that we had a whole route mapped out! Unfortunately freezing temperatures were in the forecast only a few days after we arrived forcing us to leave. But winter weather wasn't pushing us out until we saw Carlsbad Caverns National Park!

You should go back during the summer. You'll REALLY enjoy the 56 degrees when it's in the 90s outside. You'll also get to see the bats (thousands!) come flying out of the cave at sundown to feed! It's an incredible sight!

My wife and I went to Carlsbad in Jan to find it below freezing and snow on the ground. Thought the same thing, Caverns were great, area too cold. We headed to Tucson also.

Toured Carlsbad Caverns a couple of weeks ago but do not learn your lesson. We took the guided King’s Palace tour at 1:30 and figured we’d explore the Big Room afterwards. The ranger closed the back half just as we arrived at the cutoff at 3:30. Disappointed, but we’ll just have to come back! Several other guided tours and the Bat flight still to experience.

Love caves. Nice video. Having to rush through the caves does suck. Just keep heading West. It's 80 here in California. Safe travels🤙💪

+Dieselmxtt Thanks! Yeah we wish we had more time down there but thats what we get showing up only 3 hours before close... Haha yeah we're in Tucson, Arizona now and its highs in the 70s lows in the upper 40s so it's all good now!!

The term "Desert" doesn't automatically mean Hot!!...it means less rainfall. 10 inches a year isn't alot of rain... but it seems a lot the Day it comes!! Yes, NM gets all 4 seasons (no seasonal extremes) and has the best fall season ever!!

Dude, we had 70 degrees today in Pueblo, CO. When in Colorado I recommend the cave at Glenwood Springs.

Keep an eye out for high wind warnings along the I-10 corridor on your way to Tucson.

+Chuck Fletcher We kept seeing signs for high wind and dust storms! We were getting a little nervous at first but thankfully the wind was low and we didn't run into any issues!

Yeah, not all Southern Sates are gonna be warm during the Winter. I lived in Texas for 10 Years, and the Winters were pretty freezing.

It can get really cold in the desert... Try Iraq in the middle of the night! Thank you for sharing! A day like that is rare here!

Very interesting video. Loved the night sky shot at the end. Hope you guys are someplace warm, now. Northeast New Mexico (the Enchanted Circle area) is a good place to visit in the Summer. We spent most of this past summer there to escape the Texas heat. Be safe. Merry Christmas!

+David Clay Thank you! I love night sky photography so I really enjoy putting together timelapses like that. We are in Tucson, AZ now and it is nice and warm. Highs in the 70s lows in the 40s. We can handle that haha! We absolutely are returning to New Mexico when it warms back up, we had so many things we wanted to see in that state. We were so bummed when we had to leave.

i would like to ask you what still camera / video camera(s)? you used. Your photos are so clear and awsome. Thank you.
@FateUnbound

We us a Sony Alpha 6000 as our still and primary video camera. It is a great starter camera and the pictures I took in Carlsbad REALLY pushed it to it's limit. They came out so well because I spent a LONG time in post trying to bring out the blacks and tone down the highlights. That camera gives absolutely amazing bang for your buck and is, in my opinion, the perfect starter camera for someone seriously wanting to get into photography/videography. But it falls short of being a "professional" camera for many reasons. We bought it because we are on a pretty tight budget and it is only $550, but one of these days I hope to get a Sony Alpha 7.

What happened to Big Bend?
@twatson6252

Yea people might think 20 or 30 dollars a night isn't bad until they realize 20 dollars a night is 600 dollars a month and 30 dollars a night is 900 dollars a month. Now that is ridiculous. i know you have seen worse. And don't even think about a resort area like Orlando. and Disney where it can easily be cheaper to stay in a motel.

@Fate Unbound I'm really confused. I thought you said toward the end of this video you were going toward big bend, but you next video is in Carlsbad Caverns in NM. How'd you get there? (I'm also going to ask this on the next video. Not intending to spam,

Our plans changed, we thought we were heading to Big Bend but it unfortunately didn't work out and we went on to Carlsbad instead.

So what happened to the video of Big Ben National Park. Looks like you went from the Alamo to directly to Carlsbad Caverns. Did things not go as planned? I lived in Texas for 4 years but was never able to make it down to Big Ben, was so looking for your coverage. Hope all went well regardless. V/R.....

We weren't able to find a place to camp that had signal. I (Jenni) at the time worked remotely for a company and had to work 4 days a week and being down there with no signal meant I couldn't work and would get in trouble for not being able to do so. So we ended up skipping it at the time
