@AutoestimaNinja
@AutoestimaNinja 8 лет назад

@MmAWC333
@MmAWC333 11 лет назад
Guys, I know it seems cheap on Savchenko's part, but Carlsen did indeed break one of the rules of chess. By letting go of the piece then touching it again to move it to a different square, he violated an extension of the touch-move rule. If Carlsen hadn't hit his clock, then the game would have continued after Carlsen rectified his error, but that was impossible after he hit his clock. That made Carlsen's move disqualifiable because unfair time was counting down on Savchenko's clock.
@Gorgonian
@Gorgonian 10 лет назад
Some seemed to be confused. The standard rule is touch move. In *some* blitz events, they elect to use "clock move" instead. That was obviously not the case here (and normally isn't in FIDE events).

@4:30 if Magnus plays Ra1 doesn't he win the queen ?? it only has B3 square to escape to, and after Rfb1, black queen is gone,,,, or am I missing something ?? I did find another variation, but it results in white winning a knight, here it goes : Ra1 Nxe4, Rxa4 Nxd2, Bxd2 and white is 2 points up.

Renato Eckel Carlsen was like "hey man pls shut up" but then Savchenko pointed at the clock, Carlsen looked at it and agreed, so probably Carlsen had like 3 seconds left and he would've lost on time anyway.

when you let go of your piece, no matter what type of chess you are playing (talking about tournaments here, not friendly games) that is your move. realizing you made a losing move and attempting to change it is against the rules. you think, move, hit the clock and your opponent does the same. no variations in that :)

Carlsen played Kd4 and tried to change his move. Savchenko correctly pointed out that he let go of the king and could not change his move any more. Carlsen resigned because the next move for Savchenko would be Bf2+ and Carlsen would lose his rook. This would be a totally lost position, so Carlsen resigned.

Yes, it is only after you have hit your clock that the move stands. Watch some of the others, and you will see them pick up a piece that they have already let go, simply because they had not yet hit the clock. In blitz the move is only completed as stands after the player has hit the clock. It is different than standard-rated events.

No, only after the clocks begin does that matter. If you have to fix a piece onto its correct square during the game, you simply say "J'adoube," or "I adjust." And keep in mind, there is no real "Touch Move" rule in place in blitz chess. Your move is completed when you have hit your clock.

It's called touch-move, if you touch a piece you HAVE to move it (unless it's illegal to move that piece), it doesn't matter if you've hit your clock yet or not.
@yogiok7764
@yogiok7764 11 лет назад
Not in blitz, since the move is determined by hitting the clock, rather than touching the piece. In regular time controls, you have to move the piece that you touch, which is what is known as "touch move."

@Ausar0
@Ausar0 9 лет назад
So if I understand correctly, he didn't lose *because* of trying to move the king twice, but rather, was forced to go with his first move because he let go of the king, and as a result resigned. Right?
@Techn0Dazza

+Ausar0 Correct. Magnus must go with his first move if he had let go of the piece, which he did. But that loses his rook, which results in him resigning, as you mentioned.

There is no penalty. He got called for touch-move, and he was forced to move his King back. His penalty was that he was forced to move to a bad square, lose the Rook, and thus the game. What else should he incur for such a simple mistake?

@Andalus710
@Andalus710 11 лет назад
no I don't think so! its a general rule in chess that if you move a piece and let go of it the moves has to stand its not about just touching it so carlsen made a mistake and let go of piece too soon and realised his mistake straight away.

You are entirely wrong. All touch-move rules are the same for all players in all matches and in all FIDE-sanctioned tournaments whether they be blitz or otherwise. There is no such thing as deciding on rules before each match. Watch the videos, you'll see that before most of the matches the players rarely even talk or look each other in the eye, let alone discuss agreeing on rules.

I understand the point of having a rule like that but I think it's kinda bullshit if you also have to hit a clock after every move and that rule still applies. It would be different if the players didn't have to hit the clock and Carlsen let go then told Savchenko to continue.
@juanefren

@chessmassi the official rule says the movement has been done when the piece has bee dropped. How ever in friendly games, pressing of the clock is usually the sign of piece moved.

But he pressed his clock before he fixed his error. He moves Kd4, let's go, then moves Kc4, then presses his clock. He should have moved Kd4, let's go, moves Kc4, has his error pointed to him, moves back to Kd4, then presses his clock. That would have been fine.
