Picked up this tool set and I open up the box to see what's all in the kit. Was not disappointed.

That is an amazing amount of lifetime warranty, tools for well under 3k. Most everything you need is already there. Now add a carlyle 3/4 to 1/2 socket adapter and the Harbor Freight Icon 36" 3/4 breaker bar for really tuff wheel spud nuts and trailer balls. Slowly buy the Carlyle 3/4 inch drive sockets as you need them. I have a lot of tool truck tools ,Carlyle and a hand full of Icon tools Hazet, Stahlwille, NWS, Knipex. I have left the top 3 tool trucks. Once a distributor retires or moves on ,if your not buying new stuff from the new guy warrantee becomes a hassle. At 55 not one of the tool truck guys know my name. Yet just 25 years ago I spent alot on those trucks. Being asked for a recept for a tool I bought 25 years ago sucks ,so I buy at Carlyle at Napa and Icon at Harbor Freight and have never been happier. The quality of Carlyle is very,very good . To compare it with tool trucks ,I'll say this today's tools made in Taiwan are mostly better that the tool truck tools of just a few years ago. The foundry 's and forges there where designed and built by the Germans. Heat treat can be controlled like never before possable . More controle means consistency in Hardness,ductility ,tensile strength and shear strength. When appropriate Carlyle uses very high carbon , alloyed steel and will serve you well if you break bolts with a breaker bar then turn them with a rachet. Keep rachets greased with a very thin coat of very good EP grease . Any tool abused will break. 1/4 30ftpounds max. 3/8 100 ft.pounds max. 1/2 300 ft.pounds max. 3/4 900 to 1000 ft.pounds max. They will take more,for a few times ,but exceeding max working load limits stretch the steel and it will distroy that tool sooner than later. All steel has a point of yeald. And belive it or not even tool truck stuff will break if taken over working load limites to many times.

"Now add a Carlyle 3/4 to 1/2 socket adapter" haha I had done that a month ago so that I could use the Axle lock nut socket on my 71 F350 dually then I also bought their 15" impact extension to help take off the lugs for my deep 4x4 wheels. There are great points you have about the tool trucks. I have a friend that own one and he is an outstanding guy but people move on and that makes the struggle not worth it. Also non of those trucks are coming out to my shop in the woods. So if I want to replace something I have to hunt the truck down. With Carlyle and Napa when I head down for some parts I can just swap it out then. I have to make a follow-up review of the tools and I will use several of your points. Thank you very much.

That's the biggest tool set opening, that I've ever seen! Lucky for you that the sockets were arranged in individual boxes. My Craftsman sockets and other tools all came mixed up in plastic bags and it took 2 or 3 hours to insert them into their place in the plastic case where they belonged. Hope your new tools make your shop time more enjoyable, and don't forget to wear the safety goggles when you should! I don't think Napa sells new eyes, (yet).

Leave or lay the inner brake pad on the piston, otherwise the caliper tool will want to go inside the caliper piston rather than push it back.
@PaperBeatsRock
@PaperBeatsRock 3 года назад

@jonathonrossebo1783
@jonathonrossebo1783 Год назад
The only downside with a brake caliper spreader is they don't work when the caliper is installed on the vehicle and you have to push the piston(s) back into the caliper to remove the caliper. They only work when the caliper is removed. I'll keep Carlyle in mind if I can't get the SK tools I want. SK doesn't have any new tools for sale and I don't know when they will be available again.
@PaperBeatsRock
@PaperBeatsRock Год назад
The big reason I went with Carlyle is that I live in a rural area. We do have a NAPA though and if I have a problem with any of my tools I just take it down to the store and they fix it there for me. They don't have 100% of all the tools on the shelf but they do have 80%. The rest are at most a 2 day order away. This is way better than having to drive into town and try to hunt down one of the tool trucks.
@Beandiptheredneck

Man that’s a pretty significant set! I could see myself using almost every of those tools at some point. Some insurance agent probably forced them to stick those safety goggles in there 🤣 I always just use whatever sun glasses Happen to be permanently attached to my head if I need glasses

Bud, I was on such a high note and was then super disappointed when I saw them goggles. How would you compare this to the USA made Craftsman stuff from 12-15 years ago? Just the normal Craftsman, not the Pro or Industrial line. I had a 700 piece Craftsman set stolen and this Carlyle is way up in the rankings as the replacement. Gearwrench, Tekton, Icon, and Boxo are the Taiwan runners. SK or Genius if I want to spend more for USA made, or wait for the new USA made Craftsman. Or Milwaukee if they made bigger sets.
@PaperBeatsRock

I replaced an old normal craftsman set from the early 2000s, and the quality we far above that. Now for craftsman sets older than that I don't know. I love the feel and quality of them when I'm working on the trucks and I can say it's been one of the best investments I made in the last year.
