shipped from corporate warehouse out of Indianapolis, IN. Made in Taiwan. Think about this for a second... If you were the manufacture and you knew the only way to convince the general public of the USA how hard and how much would it cost to tell your plant in China or Taiwan - "Hey when you press press the main body of our ratchets and wrench's throw a USA Stamp on it for us and I'll pay you." Not to far fetched if you think about it. I've heard a rumor that Snap-On may be doing that very same thing. Granted it's a Rumor, but not far fetched if you think about it and they can still not only turn a profit, but a larger profit at that. Cheers!
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway This publication is the Federal Trade Commission staff’s view of the law’s requirements. It is not binding on the Commission. The Enforcement Policy Statement issued by the FTC is at the end of the publication. Basic Information About Made In USA Claims Must U.S. content be disclosed on products sold in the U.S.? U.S. content must be disclosed on automobiles and textile, wool, and fur products. There’s no law that requires most other products sold in the U.S. to be marked or labeled Made in USA or have any other disclosure about their amount of U.S. content. However, manufacturers and marketers who choose to make claims about the amount of U.S. content in their products must comply with the FTC’s Made in USA policy. What products does the FTC’s Made in USA policy apply to? The policy applies to all products advertised or sold in the U.S., except for those specifically subject to country-of-origin labeling by other laws. Other countries may have their own country-of-origin marking requirements. As a result, exporters should determine whether the country to which they are exporting imposes such requirements. What kinds of claims does the Enforcement Policy Statement apply to? The Enforcement Policy Statement applies to U.S. origin claims that appear on products and labeling, advertising, and other promotional materials. It also applies to all other forms of marketing, including marketing through digital or electronic mechanisms, such as Internet or e-mail. A Made in USA claim can be express or implied. Examples of express claims: Made in USA. "Our products are American-made." "USA." In identifying implied claims, the Commission focuses on the overall impression of the advertising, label, or promotional material. Depending on the context, U.S. symbols or geographic references (for example, U.S. flags, outlines of U.S. maps, or references to U.S. locations of headquarters or factories) may convey a claim of U.S. origin either by themselves, or in conjunction with other phrases or images. Example: A company promotes its product in an ad that features a manager describing the "true American quality" of the work produced at the company’s American factory. Although there is no express representation that the company’s product is made in the U.S., the overall - or net - impression the ad is likely to convey to consumers is that the product is of U.S. origin.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Being able to "see" the offerings without having to drive to the store helps a ton when I'm armchair tool shopping. Well done.
napa always works for me as a small engine mechanic buy the best and pay attn to the details thank you price is not everything, but quality and specs are
I am fortunate that my Store Manager is trying to bring back a old school style to our shop. He has a really good friend who has helped me out in getting some of the Carlyle tools at a shop discount. Even beating out our Cornwell dealer's monthly flyers. My boss is trying to get a account set up with them to not only have deals, but also make payment plans as well. Some of the tools I have already bought I almost bought dirt cheap.
fun fact most NAPA store are franchised and each one does their own type of tool areas and the one you went to is clearly franchised from how they had the tools and nuts and bolts. Just something else to look for or ask next time.
In 1923 Germany a loaf of bread cost about $75 (then the US "Great Depression" really sparked things up globally). I'd like to point out that in 2018 the US paid out $523 BILLION on interest from national debt, in a few years the interest payment will surpass the defense spending and then defaulting on national debt will be the only next step... It is what it is.
I have tools from all over , I buy used , new , and love the pawn shops , being a D.I.Y.er I'm not picky , I have tools that's never been used , but its fun to buy them , and awesome when you need something and have it without borrowing one or going out to buy one .
I love Napa I have a set of older deep well Napa USA's, I used the 5/8 over 50 times to beat out universal joints on Ford's, and other than a little bit of chrome chipping off the end there is no damage to the socket it is approximately 30 years old and still has never rounded off even the super Rusty bolts on the really old vehicles, I know there sockets are now probably Taiwan, when it comes to replacement universal joints and ball joints and even tie rod ends, I swear by NAPA parts
I used to do heat treating , mayhew forge was one of our biggest clients, MAC,MATCO,Bluepoint, snap on,craftsman proto, Williams and a couple others-chisels punches and bars are all made by them , and snap on ratchet gears and impact gun anvils are the same as Sioux tools to
Easco used to supply tools for Napa until Danaher bought the company and shut it down. They were real good tools, especially the impact sockets. I have a set of 1/2 and 3/4 drive deep and shallow impact sockets, the walls on them are really stout.
Thanks for the video I was always told NAPA stood for never any parts available translation never go shopping here I never imagined that selections were so good I'll have to check it out sometime
@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway I was hoping you would be mentioning the quality or lack of quality of the actual Auto parts in each store I've had a few bad parts here and there but just to know who's actually selling the property quality parts also means something to me too thanks
@@danlevesque5437 I'll do that in a follow up video for you. Sorry I failed to mention one of the biggest part store issues is parts and I'll give my two cents for what it's worth. Thanks for your comment.
Good tools are good tools no matter the brand or country of origin. I once saw a set of Russian wrenches that came with an aircraft and they were sweet!
8 mm and 5/16 are the same, like 7/16_11mm, 5/8-16mm, 3/4-19mm. It's annoying when there's no 17 or 18mm, 11 and 12 are missing from a lot of non USA tool sets also.
Hey I have been filling my mobile box with Carlyle tools. I know most is not USA made but like the other guy said the fit, finish and tolerances are good. They might be more than another brand but lot less than truck tools. They hold up and are under warranty. Your in store video was excellent. The tool boxes are nice. I never see Napa list or show the 6 or 7 draw Homak service carts.
Justin love the made in USA by justin dow. I like harbor freight as a dyi. love this new tour i watch every one. I think you give all tools a fair shake.
these tours you did are pretty cool Justin watched them all, enjoyed your comments and opinions since you use a lot of these. Thanks for the tips, nice tour and video!
Thank you very much. I'm having a blast doing them too. They are fun and I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Especially when I get nice comments such as yours. cheers!
Great video Justin! A lot of great tools are made in Taiwan. I have lots of tools that actually work for me.....I can't afford snap on but I can afford gearwrench or Carlyle....😁
In Canada our Napa tools ate called ultra pro...probably the sabe tools. I have a bunch of their sockets and a couple ratchets. They are great. Yes some of their prices are up.there but they have sales often and I wait for sales
Definitely enjoying the field trips. Wish I had a camera for a vid. My Snap On dealer is in my shop swapping out a new tool box. He rents space from us and has 1/2 of his inventory out so he can switch boxes. Where he puts it all I don't know. The guy works 50 hours Monday through Friday and will be working most of the weekend. I used to think the job was easy until he moved in. He definitely works as hard as we do if not harder.
This stuff is all made in Taiwan.... It's good quality stuff but not made in the US. Also I hate how ONLY the strait Carlyle ratchets with comfort grips come with 90 teeth, flex heads are only 72 and the regular steel handled ones are only 60.... The evercraft screwdrivers and prybars are a deal too compared to pittsburgh, huskey, milwaukee etc
Taiwan tools are a WHOLE lot better than Chinese tools, in fact I look for tools that say Taiwan when i go in stores now.. I want one of those Carlyle ratchets now! You got me wanting to go back to Napa and look for another ratchet even tho i dont need it 😆 I'm digging the carlyle tools alot, only thing carlyle i have is T-47 torx socket that i used on seatbelt bolts.. good quality! I like that Orange tool box for $1099 too.
I have a few of the Carlyle tools, since we get most all our filters and oil from them and it's convenient to pick 'em up while I'm there. I love the long handled, 3/8 drive comfort grip rachet. I've beat and banged on that thing and it just keeps truckin'!
Great series Justin really enjoy this 👍, Will you be doing a Pep Boys at all and I know these are car parts stores but maybe you could do a quick walk through of a Walmart , thank you take care
Love it. Just a random idea that may not be in your wheelhouse, check out equipment places like John Deere or Kubota or whatever. Even some equipment rental places sells tools or rents them. Doesn't have anything to do with automotive but it can cover things from small gas engines to big tractors. Just a random one off idea.
out of all the parts stores I have been to the family run NAPA in Lompoc CA knows their stuff and will make sure you get taken care of from parts to machining and tools
Hey Justin. Just think when your new ratchet breaks you can have it warrantied same day. Also they won't rebuild it, they give you a completely new one. I know, just had my 1/4" warrantied Friday. Keep up the great vids.👍
Justin, you should do a review of craftsman warranty over the phone. I tried warranty over the phone with crapsman no luck. I think people need to know crapsman will not warranty you craftsman tools any more.
@@MikhailSkulls no problem got a set from 7 to 24 mil in my box at work they're great on every thing from alignments to brake bleeder screws. . .if I need an open end thats what I grab for sure
Haha I commented before I saw the end !! Lol just think before metric came out mechanics didnt need near as many tools. For semis I need from 1/4"-1/2" sae and metric crap and then 3/4"-1" sae. Yeah I was on the USA ban wagon but not anymore after seeing how good Taiwan tools are. China is another story
Carlyle Tools Rock! I have been onboard about a year now, since the Snap On dude forgot my address. Thank God! I will put any Carlyle ratchet up against Snap On any day..They sure have an uncanny resemblance don't they? Carlyle is cheaper and has the same damn warranty.. I pray, someday the NAPA Tool Truck shows up at the shop. Thanks Justin for the awesome video, keep them coming...
Hahahaha!!!!!! Love your USA stamp! You know... It's made in Taiwan.... But the design is not so it it's made in USA but assembled some where else I suppose...
I also disagree with you regarding Chinese or Taiwanese tools. You get what you pay for. Why would I buy made in the U.S? Because I want our economy to thrive. When you buy China, American jobs go to China and you as an American have no job. So when you say you don’t care, you should because your next job will be would you like a happy meal.
you just got a sub for showing the secret to getting REAL MADE IN THE USA 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🦅 HECHO EN TAIWAN RATCHETS!!!!! but that was a very good walk around/overview tour of the store and the catalogue! ive been very interested in checking out a nearby store to feel the carlyle tools but haven't had the chance to, you may have just changed my mind knowing i can get U S A tools 👍
I agree. I don't understand why some people dont appreciate Mexicans. They are our neighbors and we need to mutually benefit each other and have each others back. There is a mexican tool company that makes really good stuff, I forgot what they were called
Great video! I have a set of Carlyle metric box end wrenches and they are made in Taiwan.Great wrenches. Those Homak boxes look great and the prices aint bad.
Nice work Justin. Carlyle is definitely a competitive tool brand to the truck tools. I definitely like the fit and function of there tool line. Great work. Pepboys next?
Just picked up 7 pcs SAE and 10 pcs Metric Stubby GearWrench Ratchet Wrenches at my local NAPA in Freeport Texas, for $59.00 this morning, both sets for $59.00. Some super in store rebate.. Check it Out Y'all....
