Chuck Davey's sense of distance and angles was so amazing. He's on far with Manny Pacquiao, even better, when it comes to positioning himself. He's movements was so subtle he's not like moving in and out.
Do any of those commenting know most of Daveys fights were set up? He couldn’t fight his way out of a paper bag. Graziano did not even try. He got 50K in 1952 $$$ to take the fight. Does anyone think Carman who has wars with Fullmer and an old Robinson and two wars with Tony Demarco snd close fight with Gavilan could not have destroyed Davey. Jim Norris of the IBC wanted a white college boy champion. When Davey was allowed to fight Kid Gavilan he was DESTROYED. The Kid was told to carry him for half the fight before he crushed him. The fight crowds at MSG when he was introduced into the ring called Graziano a great actor for his acting job against Davey
This Chuck Davey was so awesome. IMAGINE from March to September of 1952, he fought six times against top caliber boxers like Carmen Basilio, Rocky Graziano, Chico Vejar and Ike Williams and only a draw against Basilio is the mark on that 6 fights. If that's not amazing then I don't know what amazing is.
@@goricaj1 Gavilan had a very underrated punch like Tony Canzoneri. In his prime, Gavilan is a small welterweight (a light welterweight in today's boxing) but was banging full fledged Middleweights. No one was just walking through his punches. Even Sugar Ray Robinson, known for his power and durability, can't out brawl him. He doesn't have a destructive power but his punches are respectable.
I just love that there is at least one other person who is interested enough in these fights in the last ten years to notice that. And by love, I mean that I am very surprised! These fights are so legendary and amazing to watch, you'd never see anything quite like it today.
What Davey was a bloody mess, was hit repeatably and won a unanioums decision. Carmen had bad luck more than once in Chicago but he would go on win the welterweight crown and then beat Sugar Ray to become middle weight champion of the world, Davey won more decisions but never wore the crown.
