FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE JAZZ DE MONTREAL Carmen McRae - vocals, piano Eric Gunnison - piano Clifford Jordan - tenor sax Scott Collie - bass Marc Pulice - drums
A lesson from the master. Carmen was about age 68 when she did this, a time when many singers would be running for the hills, yet her singing is superb.
Sometimes.......I come here like tonight.......when I want to be reminded that there was an era when BRILLIANCE was the order of the day. When you listen to this woman SING THE NOTES, it is truly OTHER WORLDY. As a Pianist I can hear what she is doing and she is a PURE MASTER OF THE CRAFT OF SINGING. If I had only known that the day would come when this kind of brilliance would disappear, I would have appreciated those of this era EVEN MORE.
Thank you for making it possible for us to enjoy this masterpiece. Being a bass player myself, I appreciate the flawless intonation and tone of Mr. Collie as well as the other musicians.
Yes‼️ I haven't seen her on RU-vid before, she's one of my Jazz favorit's, I have music of her, we owned our music earlier, in Lp's, Cd's and Casette Tape's ‼️Thanks for sharing ‼️
A post I will revisit often. The song is fantastic and this wonderful woman was put here to sing it. Did not even know of Carmen McRae ten minutes ago, really appreciate the post!
This lady right here. She could talk just talk to me all day. About whatever. Read the phone book. The Oxford! Whatever and then if you want to sing,,why not⁉️
After you get past Billie and Ella and Sarah and Dinah W and Nancy you come to find Carmen. The best because the most true to herself? or that great vocal sound and phrasing? ...played a great piano when i first saw her in Detroit in the late 1950s....
