The original weapon used for the Ailao was the Nifo Oti which was invented by our ancestors in time for the 13th century war against the Tongans. The Nifo Oti was welded by the Samoan Toa and they had to perform the Ailao Weapon Katas as a warm up before their hand to hand Close quarter Battle with their enemy on the battlefield. Not as fancy and spectacular like the Siva Afi, which is has only been invented by an American Samoan in the 1940s in a San Francisco show. But, the precursor to the Siva Afi was the Nifo Oti Ailao by Samoan Warriors.
