Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed that its two ships, Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter (the soon to be ex Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter) will provide the same onboard offering and experience when they transition to the cruise line in late March 2025.

Such a low-key change makes me wonder if the whole Australian operation is now temporary in the minds of the bosses in Miami. Surely, if you are rebranding as Carnival, you do it properly. What you have described is a half-hearted effort at best.

I think what we'll see in the future is once the 2 remaining P&O Australia ships leave the Carnival will be a shuffling of the oldest cruise ships in Carnival being homeported in Sydney and Brisbane and if the sales don't increase year round then we will only have seasonal ships. NZ has already been thrown under the bus with no dedicated cruise ships from big brands so time will tell

I hope that carnival doesn’t see the old P&O s penny pinching and try to emulate the same on the other carnival ships the cost of all the extras are in my opinion is the reason P&O Australia struggled when most of the other cruise lines are more inclusive

I’m not terribly surprised that there will not be many changes for now. This is a cost saving restructure rather than embarking on a costly refurbishment. I am waiting to see what carnival intends to do beyond June 2026.

I am surprised and a tad disappointed. I thought they would take the opportunity to raise the experience on the P&O ships. I am curious as to why they would not do this. I think it poses a reputational risk to the Carnival brand. Effectively we may have two tiers of cruising under the Carnival banner - the cheaper P&O experience (along with the nickel and dime approach of added extras ) and the Carnival experience.

I had a fantastic trip on Encounter for NYE 23, ship was jammed packed! I'd say food was actually really good, interior of ship didn't make me want to Gouge my eyes out. Staff were friendly! So much better then the Jewel back in 2016! Carnival ships here are average to say the least all bar the odd few things like drop slides & comedy club! Princess just recently (shit me to tears) not hot room or decent food service at 12pm or could have been earlier 😡 had to pay extra for all sorts of shit even after it was a standard service when I booked! Ship didn't even have a night club! Staff were OK ish! So call princess just p&o as I couldn't find any differences other then their cocktails being cheaper still after covid.

I'm very disappointed that Carnival won't be refurbishing them, as I was looking forward to seeing some Carnival faves plus free pizza and burgers, because if I'm being honest, the only thing that has stopped me from cruising with P&O are all the additional, unnecessary extra costs.

I just got off Adventure last month and the only good thing was the Grayboy production shows. Upgraded to Byron Bay Beach Club, which was a huge rip off - for an extra pool - & special breakfast venue. Angelo's was the only restaurant with Sydney standards. I literally missed the Star Casino bars, restaurants & entertainment - more than I enjoyed the complete week at sea (only 3 port days out of 10 nights)

Probably comes down to a case of when the fleet is due for renewal. Both ships have had notable upgrades whilst in drydock in recent times. The change might not happen straight away, but I wouldn't rule it out in the future.

My assumption is to cut many costs shoreside. One brand, one management team. Not running 2 seperate entities. Carnival probably don't see long term value in the current P& O ships and will do doubt sell them off in the next few years so again not worth the conversion and refurbishment costs if you don't have the years of service left in them to recoup your investment. They probably already have current carnival ships earmarked for the Australian market as new builds replace them In the US and Europe.

I'm from NZ an had my cruise next year on Explorer cancelled. I want to know if Carnival will do future cruises out of Auckland as it is too expensive to fly to Australia and cruise. The flights are as much as the cruise!! Will be an absolute shame if we get abandoned after Explorer's exit. So far they say they can't comment on that every time I asked.

They've only said that any changes to home-port schedules *may* occur in the season beginning in July 2026, but we won't know for sure for quite some time.

I think it will be particularly confusing for anyone new to the Australian cruising scene. Can you imagine getting off one of the current Carnival ships and then getting onto Adventure or Encounter and having to pay for what would normally be included on a current Carnival ship? Make the change in full or don't bother at all. There can't be different levels of Carnivalness on different ships!

Having just completed my first carnival cruise I am disappointed they are not going to offer the same free food options as the rest of the Carnival fleet. Having cruised on PO pre COVID and then in February this year we found the food was no where near as good as it used to be. Fish and chips was so dry it was not edible, I don’t pay good money to go on a cruise to eat supermarket freezer food. And yes we did complain at the time. We found it was all about the upcharge.

It changed in 6mths we did p&o just after covid sept 2022 it was great and we did it again march 2023 and it had changed so much from less free food to less free day activities and craft you had to pay for where never did before! Kinda sad 😔 love the ships layout way better then the 2 other Carnival ships, but stuff onboard a let down have to pay extra for way to much stuff now..

Begs to question So why didn’t they just merge back office functions to save money and have the 3 P&O ships under a carnival trading as P&O banner and not lose the 90 year brand name . I suspect because the ships as ex princess are not the right configuration to be carnivalised. So until they get rid of them and we get “new” 20 year old carnival ships they have to leave the P&O product as is. So we lose princess loyalty points and gain carnival and get a new app which they could have just rebranded for P&O. As the old commercial said “Take me away please P&O”

It's a little bit of a double edged sword. Some are happy, but others were expecting Carnival's more-inclusive offering. I'm interested to see how it develops over the next year or so, that's for sure!

Thanks Adrian for all your updates, Yarra Bay was an option for a new cruise terminal before COVID hit but is no longer on the table but a new ferry terminal is nearly completed in the bay at La Perouse I wonder if this is another plan for tender guest of cruise ships in Botany Bay will be interesting to see in the future.

Some theories out there are that Carnival will ultimately sunset the entire P&O experience come 2026, with the possible retirement of both Encounter and Adventure at that time.

P&O have been increasing prices for about 18 months now to be same prices as Carnival anyway - so no real surprises here. Give it time & Adventure & Encounter will be Carnivalised when next in dry dock

I would imagine things will be Carnivalised during 2026 after the current cruises in the market have sailed. No doubt Luminosa, Adventure and Encounter will make their way to dry dock at some point for the changes to occur.

Hey Victor. No, as mentioned in the video the plans don’t include any home ports other than Brisbane or Sydney from the change over in March 25 through to June 26 but Carnival might look to add other home ports after this time.

Unfortunately nothing is scheduled from outside of Brisbane and Sydney once Explorer leaves the fleet. That might change, but if it does, it won’t be until the new itinerary program which starts in July 2026 and we won’t know for a while yet.

Thank you Adrian for the update. I feel Carnival are taking a let’s tread gently approach to the changeover. Over the first year, I am sure they will be looking at what works and what doesn’t, what affects their bottom line etc., that’s business. I am surprised however that they are retaining BBC. I am not surprised that they are ditching Dragon Lady and Angelo’s. As I have said before, I quite like the ships themselves, plus I hope that other major Australian ports will get a percentage of cruises to make up for losing the Pacific Explorer.

We are due on encounter in may next year and I was hoping for the carnival experience as I believe p & o fall down badly in their dining and food with all their extra charges. This is a real disappointment and if this will be how it will continue they may find a lot of passengers switching to princess or RCA.

So if they state they will continue to provide the same P&O cruises as is past June 2025, then what about WA and The Fremantle/Perth cruises that were cancelled? Our WA March 2025 cruise on Pacific Explorer was cancelled with no offer of a replacement ship offered, which is very disappointing to all Western Australian Cruisers. It would have been a sweeter pill to swallow had Carnival announced a replacement ship to cover the cancelled WA cruises. Now, sadly WA does not seem to have any Carnival cruises planned in 2025.😢

Thanks Victor. Previous P&O cruises remain credited to Princess’ Captains Circle and won’t count towards status with Carnival. Cruises taken on the P&O ships after March 2025 will credit to Carnival’s loyalty program.

Kinda disappointed wish they add more free food and day activities both have gone down hill since 2023 you have to pay for more food and day activities so less free stuff you even have to pay for activities in the day so less free activities to do. Do you know what's going to happen to kids Culb as its on the Carnival app and both lines have different ages groups which are not the same? My son hated (Carnival ages 9-11) but loved( P&O ages 10-13) Also Do you know what will happen to the Casino player club crusies we have booked through p&o as we get benifts onboard??

I suspect you might have had a bit of misinformation from Carnival. They were obviously bleeding money down here so amalgamating was a logical next step. Do they want to take ships out for an extended period and spend a lot of money doing major makeovers on two tired old ships? Maybe they thought just changing the logos on the funnels was a good temporary move while they work out what to do next. A quick smart low cost fix would be to stick in a few Carnival ice cream machines and a free pizza bar near the pool. It might quell the price gouging stories about P&O.

I think what they will do is just maintain those 2 ships with minimal changes until it's time to remove them due to age. These ships are both over 20 years old and their service life is normally 25 to 30 years and the expense to upgrade these ships is too much of an investment for little return especially when they can lean into a Carnival Australia theme on these ships that already exists

I believe some HQ and marketing consolidation and savings and ultimately, this is probably a bit of a grandfathering effect where P&O’s product will continue for the short term before it winds up completely in the coming years and everything entirely morphs into Carnival.

So why is Carnival Corp bothering with this? If all that's happening is a new paint job then really, I don't believe there's much point. I prefer Carnival anyway. I like The Red Frog Pub, Guy's Burger Joint, the offerings in the Gold Pearl dining room, Fahrenheit 555, etc. I wonder if Carnival will take away Splendor from the Australian market and have Carnival Adventure/Encounter here but run them as though they're P&O. I.e. nickel and diming onboard, etc. Like an Australianised Carnival offering. I find the whole thing bizarre

I believe it's mostly to save on the costs associated with running a second brand just for the Aussie market, and likely means that Encounter and Adventure will leave the Carnival fleet within the next two years...

So Carnival are going to eventually get rid "Carnival Adventure" and Carnival Encounter" and leave us with just Splendor and Luminosa, maybe, since people will probably prefer the full Carnival experience vs the old P&O experience. I won't be surprised if we become a seasonal only destination, especially as greedy state govts keep increasing the per pax fees charged to cruise ships, even worse with the larger ships, which would be difficult to fill here, IMO. I just hope we're not seeing the beginning of the end of cruising in Australia.

Obviously was always going to happen. In what world did anyone expect cruises sold at a massive price discount. P&O is cheaper then Carnival in what business model would end up with Carnival "inclusions" at a such discount for the next 2 yrs ....

I don't know that anyone was expecting a discounted Carnival experience per se. From my perspective as a consumer, I find it confusing that I can sail on "Carnival Adventure" where I'm required to pay for a poolside burger, or can jump onboard "Carnival Splendor" where it's included. It's a strange approach and might speak to the longer term strategy to shift out these "P&O" ships permanently... Either way, it's a confusing move for the consumer and for the local cruise market.

@TheCruiseandTravelGuy eg 4 night carnival adventure costs - $449 4 nights carnival splendor costs - $662 (interior quad) how could they have the same inclusions works out over $800 cheaper to go on the carnival adventure

@@volrathy1 mm I also presented an entire video proving that Princess was better value than P&O last year or so, with basically the same itinerary duration and destination. I don’t know that it’s as simple as looking at the cost. Further, many cruises on P&O’s Pacific Adventure before the change over occurs have just soared in price, no doubt in response to demand.

That's just disappointing, even less of an incentive to cruise on these ships. The way P & O is now it is really not worth it and to keep that model is destroying the aus cruise industry. Shame on Carnival 😢

Hate carnival. Hope they dont change to the god awful decor. Price of cruises will go up. People will venture overseas and get better deals. Not happy
