☆ ABOUT ME ☆
I am a former tech worker who lived in NYC for 30 years. At 50, I started an Amazon FBA business. Fun, but neither career allowed time for healthy living.
Last year, I turned 60, overweight, out-of-shape, pre-diabetic, with high cholesterol, and couldn't walk 20 minutes without resting.
In August 2023, I began the carnivore diet. I lost 65 pounds in 3 months.
Now, I can walk miles, have normal cholesterol and blood pressure, and am no longer pre-diabetic. I feel 30 years younger, and I'm passionate about sharing my story to help others.

Jay, I think you do very well with your shopping and I feel it is very important that you show everyone how to make the most of your money spent for this way of living. Once a person realizes that it doesnt have to be fancy ribeyes every meal or beef every meal then I really believe carnivore is one of the cheapest ways of eating. Example, a dozen large eggs must, by law, weight at least 24 ounces (1 and a half lbs).I know my prices are cheaper here in the middle of the UDS but eggs right now can be purchased in the $1.50 range. That is only a dollar a lb for one of natures most perfect foods
@brandonkick
@brandonkick 2 месяца назад
He did do an excellent job. If you like chicken and pork, you can do this even cheaper. Chicken thighs and legs are dirt cheap. Pork tenderloin is silly tasty when you marinate it and toss it on a screaming hot grill. Both usually don't push beyond the $2.50 lb range and if so not usually a whole lot higher.
@Dakiniwoman
@Dakiniwoman 2 месяца назад
@@brandonkick Yes, Chicken and Pork are cheaper, but if you are eating carnivore for health you would want to include ruminant meats for the nutritional value, even if it is ground beef.

I just bought a whole ribeye from my Costco and I paid $11.99 a pound. Your Costco has more meat selection compared to mine. I bought a good meat cutting knife and I cut my own steaks about 3/4 inch to 1 inch. If I buy the individual, I am looking at 3 steaks for $60. I cut up 11 steaks for $180.

Yeah, I was about to recommend buying a whole steak "roast" and cutting yourself. I like NY Strips, so I usually buy that whole and cut myself 1-1.5" thick steaks out of it. Next time to Costco, I"m gonna ask the butcher for a Whole Chuck Roll....and butcher it up myself, the RU-vid videos of that look dead simple to do. I have my own chamber vac sealer and can section everything off to freeze.

Check your local small grocery stores for weekly deals on meat. I can get on a rotating basis, ribeye 6.99 /lb, pork ribs 2.50 lb, shrimp 16-20 count 5.99 lb, etc on sale by shopping the local small stores. When the small stores don't have a sale going I'll just head to a big retailer that has that sort of everyday decent price like costco etc. I'm just saying that If you look around you might be surprised. My shopping style means that I can't just make up mind and go buy what I want that day and get the discount but that's fine as I get a big variety of things this way.

That sirloin cap is picanha~ absolutely wonderful, very tender when cooked hot & fast, cut across the grain. The fat cap is what really shines w/picanha, adds so much flavor. This was a great haul video Jay~ well done, & thanks for sharing.=) *Almost forgot, wanted to share another way we same money on our grocery bill. We use a Sam's Club mastercard to pay for everything in our daily life, just as we would use our regular debit card. We get a percentage of cash back rewards to use however we want in store, online, or simply cash out at the customer service counter. Costco offers the same, I'm almost certain. We usually end up with about $300~ $500 a year passive income, so to speak, which we then can spend on meat in bulk at the Sam's club near us~ anywhere in the country. That's a whole lot of free meat, & it's super easy at that. We just applied for it right at the customer service counter, & away we went. We have never been credit card people, like to pay cash, but being able to use this one like cash & make it work for us is another matter entirely. We just pay it off online every time we use it, so we are never charged any interest.

I live in Northeast Nebraska and shop mostly at a privately owned butcher shop in an abutting state city. 85% hamburger is $2.99. Beef chuck clod or roll for $4.99 . these are primals that weigh 20+ lbs and I cut the entire thing into steaks. Some are very good and some are tough but the price is right. Bone in pork shoulder is $1.59 and 10 lb bags of chicken hind quarters are 69 cents a lb. Eggs are the last item and last week we paid $1.46. I do also eat about 1 celery bunch a week. I easily eat for about $5 per day. I am not sure I have even seen a costco store. I know the closest one is about 120 miles away

Sirloin, you can cut into steaks. They just don’t typically have much fat or marbling so you’d need to add some butter to the meal.

Sirloin cap steaks are the best. They are the picanha cut. I smoke mine low for about an hour until medium 115 degrees and and then sear them off u til they get to 120-125. So good - can’t beat the price. I keep them on deck at all times

If you buy those big pieces of meat you simply cut into steaks then grill. You can wrap and freeze rest. Same for those pork loin chops. Buy long pork loin roll. Grill it or chop into loin chops then grill. Can save you money

You said in your video you go out to dinner a couple times a week,if you go to a Brazilian restaurant they’ll have the top sirloin cap should try it first, think you’ll enjoy it, it’s actually called picanha,
@Jaylwoodworth
@Jaylwoodworth Месяц назад
Actually I often stop at a Brazilian place near my house - lots of Brazilians in CT where I live. It’s like a big salad bar with barbecued meat. they sell the food by the pound, Brazilian style. I’ve eaten a ton of picanha, but never realized that top sirloin cap was the English name. Now that I think about it, they do say sirloin for picanha. And top sirloin for a cut that I like even better, called alcatra in Portuguese. My only gripe about Brazilian cooking is it’s almost impossible to get my meat cooked rare. Even getting meat cooked Medium is difficult. Most of the time its cooked to a crisp….not s hint of pink left.

Have you ever tried the wild-caught canned salmon from Costco? It’s a good price & nice carnivore/keto pantry protein to have on hand. We shop at both Costco & Sam’s Club, but we find better meat deals at Sam’s Club. Costco has a good selection of wild-caught seafood though.

I saw you didn’t get stew meat anyway but for future reference, I’ve read that, with stew meat, you don’t always know what cuts are in the package so all the pieces might not cook the same. When feasible, it’s better to get a roast and cut it up yourself so that you know just what’s going into your stew.

If you want to get the best bang for your buck & you are not afraid of cutting up your own meat, go to the butcher there at Costco & ask for a Chuck Roll. This is a sub-primal cut from the shoulder & upper back, straight from the cow. It is what Costco cuts up to put in the cases. 2 months ago we got one for $5.69 per pound & it was 28 pounds. $159.32 total. This month they had a special for $4.19 per pound & we got a 27 lb. $113.13 Total. Following the Butcher Wizard's RU-vid video, we cut it up, vacuum sealed it & froze the majority of it. If you were to buy all of the meat you get from the Chuck Roll it would cost you between $550-$600. We got 6 Chuck roasts, 7 chuck eye steaks (depending on how thick you cut them), 7 Denver steaks, about 5-6 lbs of stew meat, & we ground up the trimmings, fat & cuts to make about 6-7 lbs of hamburger meat (got a $40 grinder that attaches to my KitchenAid Mixer). Costco also has chest & a small upright freezer for $199 each. This has helped immensely with out carnivore journey.
