This song's intro always stopped me in my tracks as a kid in the 1970s. Music and the radio was all we had. Our primary source of entertainment. It got me through my early life. Carole's voice is in all our DNA.

David Palmer formerly of Steely Dan wrote the lyrics to this song. He sang the lead on "Dirty Work" and "Do It Again". David is multi- talented as a singer, songwriter, and his longtime passion for photo- graphy. He lives in Charlotte, N.C. where he has his studio, David Palmer Photography. I'm not really a fan of the arts but his work is unique and very impressive. David obviously has many gifts and photography is definitely one of them. Carole and David knocked this song out of the park!
@edd7812
@edd7812 4 месяца назад
Agreed! A lot of people are critical of David's time with Steely Dan but I thought his vocals on "Dirty Work" were exceptional! They wanted Fagan to sing his own songs and that's why David moved on. With regards to "Do it Again", David only sang the vocals on The Midnight Special, the studio version is Donald Fagen
@kathykay2010
@kathykay2010 4 месяца назад
@@edd7812 David's versions of those two songs are my favorites. Donald does a good job also but David's are superior in my opinion. As fantastic as Steely Dan was, David made them even better. Cheers!
@edd7812
@edd7812 4 месяца назад
@kathykay2010 Agreed! I'm so glad for RU-vid and those Midnight Specials and other old programs like that! You get to see many of the Great sixties and seventies bands actually playing and singing LIVE rather than lip syncing like on many of the other programs, especially the music shows coming out of the UK then... A friend of mine was in the Elvin Bishop band back then and was on The Midnight Special, I've got some pretty colorful stories about Van Morrison etc... 😂 I think David Palmer's vocals of Dirty Work really make that song, a lot of soul and feeling, he really captures the song and it wouldn't be anywhere near the same with Fagan singing it, as much as I like his vocals on most everything else... The Dan has probably been my favorite band since they came out. I remember taking can't buy a thrill around in high school and almost everybody was saying "What the hell kind of weird shit are you listening to!?" 😂🤣 Cheers!

God I love it when that tremeloed vibraphone comes in on the first verse! Or Fender Rhodes or whatever it was. Just beautiful!

Whats the swirling vibrating instrument heard here? > 2:09 > sounds so nice.
@dggydddy59
@dggydddy59 2 года назад
@@michaelbruns449 The instrument that comes in there is a monophonic (only plays one note at a time, no chords) synthesizer. In the 70's synths were still all monophonic. Polyphonic synths generally weren't around till the early 80's, which gave us that early MTV British New Wave sound. Anyway, this one is hard to tell whether it's a Moog synth or an ARP synth, but it's definitely one or the other. Cheers!

I first heard this song as a baby. On a road trip to somewhere. Heard this song for the first time in years back just before the pandemic and was so hit with emotions. Lots of forgotten feelings came back.

I have never had an attachment to an artist like I do Carole King. I've never met her but... I love her. She truly has a wonderful soul and you can hear it every time she sings. She is special.

A great Carole King song. It brings back memories of when I was a little boy I'd hear this in played in the rotation of the local radio station.

@@MilwaukeeMartin try the solo on the outro of "Black Cow" (Steely Dan). He wraps the solo perfectly around the backing horn track (which he arranged). Such brilliance!
