she gave me a hug when i told her jazzman was my favorite song on an early morning in ketchum,id in 1978. she's one of the many reasons i write and sing on you tube❤
I remember as a kid loving the intro and the horns not really knowing what the song really meant. As I got older I told everyone if I ever have a little girl I'd name her Jasmine I know the difference between jazzman and jasmine but that name just stuck. Now I have a beautiful 23 year old daughter named Jasmine
I'm sitting here reliving the old days, and this song takes me way back to high school days. Skipping class and ridding around, and this song was on the radio all the time back then...and I still love it. My sister got married when this song came out and I had a blast that night! With this song in the back round. Too bad I'm 66 now. To you young people, have all the fun while you can! Take care.
Words cannot express what this song means to be as a young kid growing up in a jazz family my dad played saxophone and Alto this was truly the first song that I really felt music internally I was probably 8 or 9 years old but it hit me and it has never left since this is my first time seeing this video and it's very emotional the whole coming together of her voice and of course the alto solo my God and Carole King thank you for this kind of music it never gets old it's a great representation of a real band enjoying what they're doing you can see the expressions and the looks she gives the alto player as they go through the song this is it 🙏👍💪🌹🎼🇺🇲
They're still around. Check these two out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DCopcNpzc60.html - Sax solo at 7:48 - other oustanding solos are before and after the sax solo. The bass solo is unbelievable! And... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9vWEa-ydr7A.html Brian's father is the lead trumpet on this one. Sax solo by Dave Koz at 4:58 - Absolutely phenomenal!
I adore Carole King, having grown up when her music was so popular. My husband played in the Jazz Rock Ensemble when we were in high school, and he still plays today. No small wonder that I got a ringtone of this song to play when he calls. 🎼 🎶 🎵 🎷🎤 🎹 ❤️
There's so many songs about genres, that are actually mainly a completely different genre. Talkin' All That Jazz by Stetsasonic comes to mind -- not a jazz song. At least Jazzman has that throat-scorching sax!
I had no idea the role that Carole King played, in the history of music from the era's I grew up in. Composed many songs that other artists made popular. She's a good soul.
She is an incredibly prolific songwriter . . started in the late 1950's and along with her then husband Gerry Goffin wrote dozens and dozens of hit songs. If you haven't seen the play "Beautiful" and you're a fan of Carole King, it's a must see!!
Oh my. I love Janis, Joni, Roberta, Etta, Minnie, and Carly, BUT......CAROLE KING IS HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE. Thank you for all the wonderful music you have created over the last 40 years....My personal favorite is and will always be "JAZZMAN"
I'm glad people are starting to rediscover Carole King's wealth of excellent material written over decades. Her many classic songs with Gerry Goffin. He deserves a lot more attention. And of course her several very successful albums most of which has never heard on radio.❤
He has always gotten the attention and respect of his peers!!! We have always known about kings musical genius and goffins impeccable creativity with lyrics. The irony in all goffins interviews he never brings this up,,,,funny isnt it
@@stephenspencer4672Gerry goffin talked about so many things in his interviews but he never played the / oh I need more attention card// many people are getting tired of comments on kings solo work about goffin not getting “the attention “. I merely was saying I’ve read and listened to all his interviews he never brings this up. He was always thought of in the highest regard by everyone in the music business. It’s interesting that on any or all posts about goffin people don’t chime in with ( oh what about king) it’s true dear friend through out the music industry the one who performs is usually the one with more attention ,,,,however in this case king always shunned the spot light and rarely granted an interview.
Sounds great completely live. This is one of those songs that has to be played live to feel its full effect (though the studio version is amazing too).
42 years ago... "Jazzman" is an August 1974 song performed by Carole King, from her album Wrap Around Joy. King provided the sheet music for the song, while David Palmer (formerly of Steely Dan) wrote the lyrics. The song is best known for its lengthy saxophone solos, performed by Tom Scott, while King sings an ode to "the Jazzman" and the effect he has on her. Curtis Amy, saxophonist, composer, and former musical director for the Ray Charles band, was the "jazz man" of the song.[citation needed]
Thanks for your comment. I had no idea of all the ingredients that went into this wonderful track. David Palmer huh...never knew....now that I do know, it sounds like a track right off of Can't Buy A Thrill...Never Going Back To My Old School has a similar vibe...thanks again!
Carol King and Christie Mc Vie the 2 greatest ladies of Rock-n-roll for all time.......second to no one........Thanks for raising me on such great music ladies.......
I met this song with the Simpsons, and I loved it, and it is to rediscover the beautiful songs of the 70s, well says homer that the perfection of rock was achieved in 1974
When I was a little boy I would play Tapestry on the family's record player with the big headphones on and think about how I was going to marry Carole King when I grew up.
