What’s brilliant about Rhiannon Giddens is that you can go on RU-vid and you can search and find her singing a lovely French song with guitar in French and then find her singing Celtic mouth music and then find her singing playing an instrument, writing a musical…. We have a genius talent here❤
this song first played on the radio in asheville two years ago on an NPR station that (thankfully) doesn't subscribe to the idea of "heavy rotation." and they still play it, and it still kicks serious fucking ass.
I could not love this group of amazing Southern musicians, archivists and performers more than I do now. Fantastic! Every release is a rare gem and covering Blu Cantrell?! Yeah. Rhiannon's voice is unparalleled.
@@katevalentine7075 I don't necessarily disagree, I'm just being an uber-nerd. I'd say this is more old-time string band meets R&B meets hip hop since the Carolina Chocolate Drops are a modern interpretation of an African-American string band. Yes, I am a musician and I play bluegrass. I love the Carolina Chocolate Drops and I think they'd be the first to tell you they're not a bluegrass band.
I saw them do this live at a festival and got to meet/hangout with the band for a little bit while they were eating after the show. They were amazing people. Especially Dom. Super nice to me. He signed a vinyl lp for me, ran up and got the other two members to sign it cause I asked after they had walked off. Then just chatted with me about roots music for a little while. Was definitely awesome. Great band. Loved this lineup.
That's Right Y'all "OMG" !!! The Carolina Chocolate Drops are TRULY AWESOME !!! What makes it even better is that their Beautiful Souls Share This Great Love With All Who Behold Them !!! As for myself my Heart is Still Leaping With JOY over hearing & meeting Them after Their Incredible Concert here in Atlanta, GA !!!
Couldn´t sit still to this even if you gave me a million Dollar... :D Absolutely no idea why ANYONE could dislike, let alone 35. Even if one wouldn´t like that kind of music, they could (and should) at least acknowledge the musical talent, creativity, and passion displayed here.
It's been quite a while since a musical act caught my attention and made me stop what I was doing, but last night I saw "Another Day, Another Time," and Rhiannon Giddens' performance took my breath away. Such a powerful voice. I immediately had to find out who she was. What an incredible sound! I've been checking out various videos of the Carolina Chocolate Drops ever since. Their rendition of "Hit 'Em Up Style" is awesome. Also check out the 2008 WDVX Blue Plate Special version uploaded in May 2008.
With all the junk passing for "Music"" these days this group is a breath of fresh air. Amazing talent...vocal, percussion, instrumental and above all originality and Heart !
