Carolina emerged from nowhere some recent years ago; the assumption is that this director contributed to that. Carolina’s tuning up sequence is remarkable; the most impressive chorale I’ve heard. Terd rat adolescents will then lob hateful, diminishing comments; threatened by anything of quality not involving them. The director is not a Chad; he clearly cares deeply for this; sacrificing his adult summer for this.

At roughly 1:01, the middle voices (at this point, the highest voice) do a major third over the bass, and there are virtually no beats, which means they're pushing that third down a good 16 cents. WOW. HUGE sound, nearly perfect intonation. The perfect prescription for goosebumps? Some killer DCI brass.

What’s a beat in this context?
@killstrees
@killstrees Год назад
@@M.A.J.H it's referring to the difference in the notes when comparing how in or out of tune the horns are. Say two horn players are playing middle C, which is roughly 262hz. One horn is a little sharp, at 266hz, the other is slightly flat at say 259hz. This is close enough that you will hear a "wave" or "beat" in the sound these two horns create. As they get closer to each other as they tune their instrument, the "wave" will slow down until they reach the frequency of 262hz, middle C.

Kempsville High School, Virginia Beach, VA, 1995 (Freshman year). William E. Pease was the Director of Bands and the visionary behind the award-winning Marching Chiefs. The guy was hard on me, as he was all of us. I couldn't catch a break and I was a terrible musician. He rode my back all year long and saw something I didn't know was there. Before leaving the school at the end of my first year of high school, Mr. Pease transferred me to percussion. I'm a drummer to this day. The lessons this tyrant of a genius shared will be with me for the rest of my life. As for Mr. Pease? He went on to be known as Dr. Bill Pease, Director of Bands at the University of Virginia.

+Bruhh resonance is related to aligning the overtone series and intonation. The harmonic series allows the sound waves to be perceived louder. Interference does the opposite, and decreases the overall amplitude and perceived loudness.

I marched '97-'03 with the Kiwanis Kavaliers before the amplification. I could never really get into the shows pre 90s. Too far into the 80s and it starts to get really really repetitive for me. One the of loudest hornlines I've ever heard was BD '98. They were louder playing backfield than some of the corps playing front. One of the most impressive things I've heard was SCVs hornline singing Adagio for Strings in warmup before finals in 2000(singing through their ballad). They were spot on. Overtones were crazy.

Intensity of the volume is not emotion. This is so bad ass and amazing and jaw dropping! It's just loud louder and loudest. Real emotion comes with the artistic liberties taken by both the conductor and the ensemble. There's nothing like this here. It's exactly what is printed on the page which is loud louder and loudest. This is pure intensity. Not emotion.

I love how another hornline in the background resolves their chord faintly at the end. 2:25 They are literally bowing to CC's brassline. Edit: Haha! It was the Bluecoats warming up in the background! Thanks @Kenneth Schechter!

Well, it’s technically not a resolution, it’s a Picardy third. But yah that’s cool, I didn’t notice until I saw your comment! No doubt the other core heard it even from that far away.

@@loganpintor Yes, that sneaky Picardy third, even if it is faint!

Jon Williams I mean, you get get all technical about it, but they're still plugging their ears because it's so fucking loud they can't hear shit otherwise

Peter mercil Well let me explain the science. Your ears act as drums. Meaning they vibrate when sound happens. If there is something loud, for instance a marching band, it vibrates to a certain extent that you just can't hear clarity in articulation, tone, or tuning. When you plug your ears, your adding pressure to stop the vibration, allowing the back of your ears to absorb the minor details they're looking for. Katie and Evan Vandoren have been with crown for years, I'm pretty certain they're not plugging their ears because it hurts them
