Nice to see a review of a game I’d not heard of that’s a classic. I’ll definitely look into this and Shangri La. And fully agree that once you play one game by some designers the others are very similar. As well as the fact a lot of more recent euros are solitary adventures with little interaction. Hope to see plenty more reviews. This is so refreshing.
This one has me super intrigued and makes me feel like it could occupy the same space (possibly replacing) that of Imhotep or The Quest for Eldorado. That said, the mention of it being more of a pallette cleanser for those who have a bigger collection makes me guess that you wouldn't suggest getting it if you're allocated space for board games is relatively small.
I have really enjoyed this game even with the original ruleset on Yucata (and despite the ugliness of the presentation there--for such a beautiful game, the implementation there really does it no justice--turns the hex territories into a beige rondel). Feels so good when you can flip a big territory to your side.
Not sure if it's just me, but I find it odd that Mark tends to mostly use just one hand when gesticulating while simultaneously hiding the other under the table. It looks expressive but also reserved, which I find odd. I'm a gesticulator as well and I'd either set my hands free or keep them both restrained.
