For me, this was the best game of 2019. I completely agree about the learning curve and it’s a four player only game, but when you get four people who know what they’re doing, the game is just amazing. One big plus versus Captain Sonar is the asymmetry which is really pronounced. There’s nothing else quite like Sabotage and the hobby is all the better for designers like Tim Fowers creating something different that’s so much fun.
Jeremy Overton COMPLETELY agree. Was so glad I backed it on Kickstarter. Feels like a wholly unique game in our collection that's simple FUN. Great game for couples vs. couples too we've found. Very excited for when our kids are old enough to play with us.
He forgot to mention there are some labels missing from the base game. (At least in the current print run) You have to request stickers from the company and they don't look great. Also they send you an extra sticker to help reinforce fhe folding out box lid because it rips very easily.
Theres a different game i know called sabotage: There can be a group of up to 20 people and one is the lookout, the lookout has gotta see and take out everyone while staying in the circle in the center. The lookout will countdown from 20, in that time everyone else has gotta hide under or behind an object, if your seen your out (these walls and objects are like gym blocks and stuff). If the lookout cant see anyone, they will count again but this time with 5 seconds removed so it adds challenge. When they begin counting you gotta run to the circle, touch it with ur foot then you can hide again. The reason why the game js called sabotage is because you can sabktage the person next to you by ma,ing them become seen. The game is fun and i would recommend it at a school game for P.E or whatever. Its best to play with alot of people to make it more fun and stuff.
played at 2, 3 and 4 players and for sure 4 player is the best. Tom was too nice on the rules though- They absolutely could be clearer (and the player boards really need the sticker upgrades that can only be requested from the publisher). Fantastic game otherwise.
7:17 I am curious now about everyone's definition of "overproduced". I have seen a number of comments claiming that "Foundations of Rome" is overproduced. Although later he uses overproduced, in what seemed like, a non-negative context.
Overproduced, in this context, means that the components are bigger, more numerous, more complex, and/or more extravagant than is probably necessary. It's similar to what people mean in tech when they say something is overengineered. In other words, he means it's overkill, for better or for worse.
Tom sums it up pretty well at around 8:22. "I don't know if the game is a big as the box" and "There's a lot of pieces for the kind of game that it is". Meaning the production are a 9000 for a game that doesn't necessarily warrants it. Overproduction could also be a problem with regard to price. It can lead the sticker price up, for ultimately a game that is not that exceptional fun-wise and replayability-wise. I mean this game is on Amazon at $70. That seems too much for what it is.
Yet another game with grey blobs for miniatures. Sigh. I get that some people like to paint them but I have no desire or time to do that, which means it just takes away from the appeal of the game for me. Visually it looks unfinished and pulls me out of the theme. It would be better if games came with less complex, colored plastic minis and then sold the fancy paintable ones separately or in a deluxe edition.
