🧐A carotid ultrasound is performed to test for narrowed carotid arteries, which increase
the risk of stroke. Carotid arteries are usually narrowed by a buildup of plaque -
made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances that circulate in the

The aim of the course is to provide the user with the knowledge to perform and interpret
a normal ultrasound examination of the carotid and vertebral arteries. Topics such as
diagnostic criteria for grading carotid artery stenosis, characterisation of atherosclerotic
plaques, vertebral steal syndrome and much more. A carotid ultrasound is performed to
test for narrowed carotid arteries, which increase the risk of stroke. Carotid
arteries are usually narrowed by a buildup of plaque - made up of fat, cholesterol,
calcium and other substances that circulate in the bloodstream.
The carotid ultrasound is pain-free and does not pose a risk to a patient. Discomfort
is minimal, and the entire process lasts about 10 minutes. The ultrasound is
noninvasive, so you shouldn't experience any problems.
