I stopped using bottle top’s after it got coiled up in the first ring n loosing a fish 😾so I changed to a inch of plastic pipe cut at the bottom so I could pull it off the line , started carping with Heron alarms, NO hair rigs so only caught 1/2 the takes coz the hook had to pull all the way through a 1inch par boiled potato!. Crap Rods, started fishing when I was 10 using the Ariel off a Sherman Tank!!, True, crap reels, Crap tackle in general . 72 now still carping, mostly on the river, but not right through the really cold 🥶 winter.

@@streetcat1510 bet you have some good memories of those days, everything’s all a bit serious now! I used to use the top of a bottle with the side cut out sliding on an old brolly spine like a monkey climber. When you got a bite the bottle top shot into the air and normally into the lake!

I emigrated to Canada in 1991 with all my gear. Included four original Optonics and Mitchell 300s. Rods were all carbon fibre. A couple were fibre glass. I still use them apart for one rod which snapped. Was a member of CAA and the Carp Society which allowed me to fish Redmire a couple of times. Waters with 20lb+ fish in were rare and difficult to access unless you knew someone. Somewhat elitist. Looking at RU-vid videos now anyone can break Dick Walker's record. His book and Kevin Nash's were essential reading. Interesting video. Thanks
