What a buzz that must have been for you. Well done. I’m on the mainland but like you,I normally fish small waters. While on my club waters a couple of weeks ago,another angler I’ve got to know here showed me his new (ish) rods. They were Century rods as well. He told me to have a cast with one and I couldn’t believe the difference they made to my casting. Amazing rods. Now I have to save up and treat myself. Any excuse. Lol.

The ocean taught me on casting far so well done on the 120 mate, where i was living we had to cast over a reef that was maybe 80 m out from beach so to clear it we had to cast 120+ meters and i lost a whole bunch of leads until instarted getting it right, it takes practice but now i can cast damn near anywhere and soon you will be able to also

Cracking set up and it does make a big difference I could get about half way across the lake with my set up and I had ago on my friends and cleared the lake also when going for a big cast try not to over think it same as a golf swing if you over think it you tend to mess up keep it up and you'll hit 150 yards before you know it

Nice casting, I'm pretty bad at casting aswell. I bought some similar rods and can now get about the same range. I find it helped using a shock leader, a glove and pulling the butt of the rod past my waist as I cast. Also been using my golf range finder to check the distances of far margins. Good luck 👍

I normally have one important thing, before i let go a long cast, get the lead to stop behind you and get used to let it be in line with the way you cast (avoiding slight mistakes going aside), on a long cast a little bit of side "dangling" lead can lead to rodlenghts to the side on a 25+ wrap longchuck. I had this issue with my casting. Take your time and give yourself 10-15 seconds extra. Not a biggie.

Hi Simon congratulations on your successful casting PB I don't know if it will help you but I had some lessons a couple of years ago and being a little vertically challenged but stocky I had good technique but the instructor told me that increasing the hand speed as the rod hits the fulcrum spot can make a big difference to your distance I like yourself was getting approximately 80yrds at a push but now a couple of years on can hit 34 raps so was very pleased with the results, so keep up the practice regularly and I'm sure you'll enjoy the rewards good luck to you Simon love the vlogs all the best 👍.

Enjoyed the vlog, as for casting, you need to move feet, step forward and weight on front foot. Static casting at moment, not using enough of rod. Try a casting coach, I used one for my beach casting, went from 120 yrds to 170 with 15ft sonik, no need for better rods. Good luck.

All I can say is be careful level line casting with 0.33 mainline, 0.35 is the minimum really for level line as you risk snapping off with any thinner. If the fisheries allow, use a braided leader when chucking long with 0.33. Great video
@SimonDewCarpFishing
@SimonDewCarpFishing 2 года назад
This line is different gravy mate 20lb breaking strain I think I'll struggle to snap it on the vast 👍
@theconsistentnoddy9851
@theconsistentnoddy9851 2 года назад
@@SimonDewCarpFishing I’d imagine your friends with Terry Edmonds on FB Simon? If so go through some of his old posts regarding level line casting, he’s the best in the business and advises nothing less than .37 line for casting. I know you say that your line is the nuts but ultimately stated breaking strains are irrelevant and diameter is everything. You did well hitting 120 but doing it regularly in anything other than flat calm conditions and I can practically guarantee you’ll start having regular crack offs. All the best with your fishing and casting 🙌
@banditfishing1558
@banditfishing1558 2 года назад
@@SimonDewCarpFishing maybe mate but as we’ve stated, breaking strain is irrelevant and all that matters is diameter. 0.35mm is the absolute minimum in my opinion for level line casting, personally I use 0.39 being very safe. Good luck with you’re fishing mate

Straighten that right arm, and rather than casting with right arm in front or over your head, get it back behind your right ear, thus making the arc longer generating more lead speed, good luck! The reels look a tad underfilled too.

If you're looking at improving your range on casting I'd advise giving Terry Edmunds a watch or I think he even does tuitions.... He hits like 200+ yards with a solid bag lol. I'm personally not keen on fishing at distance unless using braid, boats/bait boats etc. Otherwise it's just an absolute nightmare to bait up. Very inaccurate with the stretch in mono or with the slightest bit of wind. You're bite indication is massively affected. It's very dangerous for fish when people crack off constantly leaving rigs and lines in the water. It's why most waters or day tickets atleast that are large enough to cast long range they will put a rule in for lead size. Margins are where it's at 😉 right under the rod tips
@SimonDewCarpFishing
@SimonDewCarpFishing 2 года назад
I've actually been in touch with Terry edmonds and may do a video with him in the future 👌 I agree the margins are great but some waters call for longer distances and it's always good to be able to reach the fish when needed 👌
@philipglancy8593
@philipglancy8593 2 года назад
@@SimonDewCarpFishing very nice 👌 that would be a great idea to show really how much the technique and tackle make a difference, also no better guy to do it with than Terry 👍 I just fish the margins for an easy life lol, typical lazy carp angler 😂 but if you're willing to put the effort and practice in for when it's needed there's no doubt it'll bank more carp

The best piece of advice on here , he will put yards on your cast , it’s all about technique I would go up in diameter too , try hydro tuff by Gardner in the .35 diameter or the .38 13ft rods are what you really need to be slamming out there , but you seem to catch enough doing what you do ! One lesson with Terry and you will learn so much !!

Things that have helped me with my casting distance that I think you could incorporate yourself. 1. Begin the cast from a static position with the rod behind you rather than swinging from the front. Rod loads better. 2. Right arm above the head but not straight. Slight bend in the elbow. Helps generate more speed if you push with the right arm in the beginning on the cast. 3. Braided shock leader

Well you don't have to but if the carp are further out than you can cast then it makes sense to try and get as close as possible to give yourself the best chance of catching... Obviously whilst fishing safely though, for example you wouldn't want to be using 10lb line casting over huge weed beds when fishing for big carp, that would be a disaster waiting to happen
