I could not agree more... Float fishing on the ponds or trotting the rivers for roach etc is one of the most enjoyable ways to fish, not sleeping behind an alarm to tell you fish on from a bolt rig! I like to absorb whats going on around me, the "dawn chorus" at the start of an early session, the wild life, the peace and tranquility of some far out of the way farm pond for example.. Happy fishing and best regards.
You do know Richard Walker caught the British record carp from Redmire Pool in the 1950's using a bite alarm and was in a tent when it went off in the middle of the night, don't you?
This man is a living legend, he was born to fish. And he does it with a love of nature and catchng fish, not for the money like people such as Alan Scotthorne, Rob Wooton, Steve ( I Love Me ) Ringer, and the other match men. He should have a knighthood for his services to fishing!
What idiots giving this the thumbs down. I am now back to traditional methods such as centre pins and peacock quill floats and incorporating this on some of the modern commercial waters is immense fun.
Agreed, I use porcupine floats, centrepin reel and an old rod but not a cane one, I still have a wicker basket too, but that hasn't been used for years.
Don't fund those awful modern commercial waters. Doesn't matter what old tackle you are using. They are killing the sport and the fish. Get a ticket for a local club or fish a river. Commercial carp waters are a disgrace.
@@matmc71 Well said. They are merely catering for easily pleased anglers who are not discerning about which species they catch (ugly F1 hybrids, non-native ide and sickly looking barbel). The problem is, those places are a terrible advert for angling. As with the abolition of the close season, trying to justify such places to non-anglers is defending the indefensible.
As a little kid I remember being awestruck after buying angling tines and seeing the famous picture of Chris and his carp. I also recall the uproar of the record committee rejecting the record, resulting in there being two records for a time.
Every word spoken by Chris Yates in this video is absolute gold! To me there are only two anglers who can captivate the imagination so much so that time becomes insignificant and Chris Yates is certainly one of those. A recommended watch.

Carp Fishing: Chris Yates Interviewed By Ian Chillcott - Fishing TV
In 1980, Chris Yates broke the 44lb carp record that had stood for 28 years, (took it to over 51lb) using an old cane rod. As far as, I am concerned, it is still the record, as I have no interest in, or respect for, waters that stock fish at huge weights which then pile on the pounds on pellets and boilies.
@@portcullis5622 100% agree with you. He is the record holder.... and I would love to see all the kiddies now succeed without the tech and fish with price tags still hanging off them. Chris is a true angler
@petra You might well be correct, but I despise and avoid the modern carp scene so I probably won't watch it. Nothing wrong with bite alarms and most other equipment. It is the earnest, macho attitude and some of the methods that are lamentable.
