I just made some dough I had to slightly change it though cause I didn’t have corn flour so I used whits flour . I had a half dozen stale graham crackers so I added them but I think it turned out good . When I was a young teenager there was a old guy that fished for carp with his secret recipe for dough balls . He always caught fish , wish I knew his recipe . He was in a low military pension so he ate all the carp . He used to make a lot of fish cakes. He drank beer by the muscenetcong creek in Bloomsbury n j and caught carp . What a life
Most of all my videos are not set in stone. I always tell people just use it as a reference and be creative with anything extra you add. My dad was the same way, he always had his secrets and took some home for the neighbors to eat. Thanks for watching!
1 cup water 1 cup sugar (bring to boil) 1 cup flour 1 cup of corn meal. 2 tsp vanilla extract. mix like crazy, and knead into flour/corn meal. pop in the fridge until use. Also, if your using chicken liver, for catfish, some of the blood will make 'blood balls', by just mixing it in...
Nice video. I used the same products. I also used cinnamon and garlic powder. It worked great, caught a 20plus catfish on my coach pier!!!Scooped it out with a clothes hamper.
Thank you Brian for a very informative and straightforward video, you did an excellent job! Many years ago ( 50 + ) someone gave me a recipe for dough balls for carp, but instead of molasses the recipe called for strawberry jello. I had never fished for carp before but they loved this stuff, and reeling them in was a blast!!! Thanks again Brian, I'll be trying it this weekend. Stay safe.
Thank you so much! I've been using a similar bait, but it's a red color. The company stopped making it. I just started search things that I thought were in it, and found your video... Kinda new to carp fishing, probably caught less than 150lbs Worth. Today caught lil one, under 11lbs
After using your Dough Ball Bait recipe, I caught my first carp of 2022. Success at last after weeks of blank sessions. A question for you Brian, I want to keep leftover bait for several days in a fridge, will doing this change the effectiveness of the bait, Great videos, thanks.
Awesome! Glad you caught! Honestly I would just make fresh to use on the hook. I would keep the old in the fridge and use it to chum a little bit before fishing to attract them in. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching. I noticed a lot of things that used to work the big reason they do not now is too many preservatives in them that were not there before. Maybe try a different brand and look at any add ins that are in the ingredients.
You can vary the break time on it. Water temp plays a big role in it also. Before I cast out I will throw a little near the edge to see how long the break down time is. Keep in mind the carp will suck in the dough even if it broke down and the hook will still go in. Thanks for watching.
I don't think it will hold the shape after it is in the water. Boilies have a lot of ingredients and binders to hold everything together under water. Thanks for watching!
thanks for the video. Just started carp fishing this year, and craving info. Question, you said you went away from dough balls for more sophisticated methods. Assume that you mean method feeders/boilies? Is your catch rate significantly higher? Chumming in California? I wrote to the DFW and asked why chumming is apparently legal in some regions, and not others (mine). No response.
Wow good old cornmeal. I grew up using this stuff. We'd always add either vanilla extract, jello, or peanut butter to ours. I was surprised to hear youre a multi species angler. Do you ever target catfish, musky, or pike?
+Bare Rocks Entertainment Thanks for watching. Yes I target everything! I still go for catfish and pike. I never went for musky but a few lakes nearby have them. I still like to just go out for some bluegills and perch once in a while as well.
Ive tried this and didnt catch nothing there were carp everywhere in the water i could see them swimming and jumping but it looked like the were feeding more on the top of the water so could i change to get the bait on top water cause it was at the bottom and they didnt see it?
I'm in s.w. Florida and trying to catch these damn pacu & other aquarium fish that have been dumped in our lake w/ Betty crocker pizza crust dough balls! lol wish me luck! ;-)
More modern angler? I don't think you can get more modern than dough ball. Some of the rigs and baits people use for carp now are hilarious. Yes, they catch carp, but all things being equal, I haven't seen any of them that attract and hook carp nearly as well as good dough ball. Though I don't think the dough ball you're going to make with those ingredients will be a very good attractor. You have nothing in the dough ball that will reach way out and draw the fish in. With good dough ball, you don't need an attractor, and you certainly don't need to chum. There are a million recipes, but the tried and true ones always have an ingredient that dissolves off the surface of the dough ball, and spreads out quickly, while leaving the body of the dough ball intact.
James Ritchie I read your comments really impressive on this video. Do you have any effective carp bait recipe, if so, please help me in this regard. I shall be very grateful to you. I am searching an effective carp bait recipe since long but could not be succeeded.
i never cared about carp fishing but once i found out how use full carp was for catching big blue cats, well now i see the use fullness of carp. nothing works better for a 50 pound catfish like a big fat juicy carp head. thanks for the video its helpful
BigolJoe i do use baby carp in the summer for alligator gar if i can get it to stay out thier am shure a flat head would take it but the gar kill all my live bait
jack clockwood Need a heavy enough weight to keep it from being able to run around, and gotta fish it right under the catfish's nose so to speak, instead of fishing it out in a channel waiting for patrolling fish. Fish big brush and rockpiles and make sure you got enough lead down there so that carp cant move it. which is alot cause even baby carp are strong swimmers. Good fishin bud. =) Ps. Im in TX so I know all about that gar struggle lol! Good luck out there!
