I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ru-vid.comUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Baits are not heavy in the slightest. So the amount of drag they cause will be higher than the distance they gain in weight. Although I doubt it makes a significant difference.
can one use the specific rod you used here to fish carp or is it only a distance casting rod for comps and if so how do they handle with the limited butt cover? please tell me where i can buy a setup like you were using mate? i fish carp and here in Aus you dont find carp gear.

I purchased a pair of spirit rods.for distance fishing i cannot fault them & forgiving with a fish under the tip too.It greives me to shell out so much on kit but i had my kevlars 20+ years & they owe me nothing from the service they have given me.when i buy rods reels i always look at it has an long term investment of hrs of enjoyment.its my only hobby so why not.
Lol.heavy mass falling is alot different to it traveling threw the air.of course the smaller lighter bait is going to go further.its about balancing your end tackle in proportion to the distance you fish at.the bait you use is prefrence.if a smaller bait gains you the bit of distance you need then being that critical is upto how you choose to solve the matter.
