I am a journeyman carpenter... I went through my 4 year carpenters apprenticeship many years ago. I encourage you all to enjoy the trade. I also received my associated degree while in my apprenticeship. I went on to civil engineering and construction project management. I wish you the best and take pride in all you are involved building. Pass on your skills and knowledge.

great video. every Carpenter and other trades should learn the exact Metric equivalents(64 sizes) when they see the Imperial(64 sizes) system. i say exact because all of the metric tool sizes are mostly an approximate size. 14 is used for any 9/16th size but 14.2mm is the exact size. 13.8mm is 35/64th.there is no such 9mm size.its 9.1mm or 23/64th. .3mm-1/64th. .7mm-1/32nd. 1.1mm-3/64th. 1.5mm-1/16th. 1.9mm-5/64th. 2.3mm-3/32nd. 2.7mm-7/64th and so on. Carpenters should also learn how to convert 89mm to fractional inch and vice versa without using a calculator. 27 feet 9/16 minus 2 ft 3/32nds. i know a lot of Carpenters that don't know what comes after 7/16th. 29/64th,15/32nd,31/64th. they say 7/16th plus or heavy but don't really know the exact size.

@Bamboo Training or get sponsored in and skip pre-apprentice and go straight into your apprenticeship.
@ray_banz5899
@ray_banz5899 2 года назад
@Bamboo Training I had worked non union for few years doing remodeling and had some experience already. I went and interviewed for a union company just out of the blue one day and they said that since I had past experience they will sponsor me into the apprenticeship with 3 months credit (enough to skip pre-apprentice) and then I can go right into my apprenticeship. It allowed me to skip all that BS that you would normally have to go through and start immediately. They will hire you on as a first year and then you start right away with the curriculum for classes that they have. The biggest thing that helped was having past experience in the trade. Good luck 👍🏼

So you do your 4 year apprenticeship and become a journeyman. Do you then continue to work for the union or can you go work for a contractor after that and get your cirtification and become something like a GC? Is it expected that you will stay and work for the union after you complete your apprenticeship?
@zar2283
@zar2283 4 года назад
Here in MN at least you continue to work for the union pretty much your whole time in that career. The union here is MN is really good so people tend to stick around for anywhere between 5-30 years.

the metal mush is better and faster for non loadbearing walls.

@@joelchrysler6238 I don't agree. My dads using the tin studs for bulkheads and backframing as we finish our basement. But it's a pain to cut. Sharp to handle. A pain to hold drywall while a whole screw screws in. Maybe I don't know what I'm doing with it but i would rather have a loud air compressor, skilsaw and 2x2 strapping and just clean up the mess after but have it be done with.
@joelchrysler6238
@joelchrysler6238 Год назад
@@maxnovakovics2568 I'd have to say you're doing it wrong then. They are super easy to cut with snips and even easier with a chop saw. Crimp it in the place you want to hold it and then use a Kelly screw... you're right they can be sharp but you learn how to handle it. It's way faster, No question

Hello guys! Does anybody know how is the carpentry field in Canada? Specially in Nova Scotia? I'm currently 28 and working in a totally different field. I'm moving to Halifax, NS next summer and I was thinking about studying Carpentry and become an apprentice. But I don't know if the canadian field differ too much of the USA field....

Ontario is probably the same as midwest. But NS idk, I might assume more tie up and rigidity for hurricane risk. I do know Florida doesn't have basements and i believe the structural walls are all cinderblock instead of 2x6 lumber. I never hear guys going out East. I know plenty of guys from the East... The work is in Ontario and out West. However good luck in any endeavors. 🤞

Mark 6 New International Version A Prophet Without Honor 1Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, a Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Yes- Go Union when you can. Don't waste 3 years in renovations like me with barely any pay raises and no benefits while my friends in the union were making 28 to 32 and hour after 3 years with full benefits and 10% vacation pay. Good thing I went back union now and Im loving it. We get paid overtime now! Woohoo! If you do renos- work for a company that cares about its employees- not only health wise- but career wise.
