I agree with those who say this song doesn't get the credit it richly deserves, it's from the Close to You album, one of my all-time favorite Carpenter's songs.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
One of the greatest and most underappreciated Carpenters' songs of them all! I have always loved this magnificently beautiful ballad, "Maybe It's You" from the "Close To You" album by Karen and Richard Carpenter. This ladies and gentlemen and boys and girls is REAL music performed by REAL talent!
Wow, this is a gem. Listening to her voice with headphones, is fantastic ! So, clear, crisp, sensual. And here she was, "early Karen, without the protection of her drums, to hide behind, so she is hiding behind her heavy bangs", shy and afraid to let anyone see her..only her voice. Not good enough Karen ! You, put so much into a song, through your vocal interpretation, and your facial expression plus, body expression. You, my friend are a natural. Someone worth seeing, hearing and knowing. What is it about a song, that makes you tick. Whatever, it is, it is magic. Thank you, for all the songs you gave us. May you are happy in Heaven, taking care of all those babies and children, you never had of your own.. God bless.
She was a musician before she was a singer. She was not "hiding", she was playing her instrument. Was Richard hiding behind his piano? He sang backup. He could have stood behind her and just sang so by your logic, he was hiding. Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, Beyonce were/are singers. That's stood/stand out front.
One of the best songs on Close To You in my opinion. The arrangement is amazing. It's so incredible this is an original composition from Richard Carpenter himself. The track greatly shows his talents as an arranger and a composer.
Don't you think the orchestra comes in a little too loud at 0:32? It kind of drowns her out. But with that said, this is definitely one of my favorite Carpenter's songs.
@thisduckisgoingtokillme. The song, "Maybe It's You" was a joint composition by Richard Carpenter (music and arrangement) and John Bettis (lyrics) not just Richard Carpenter!
Karen parece que saiu de um conto de fadas, só sei que ela existiu pq ela veio no meu país e vi o show dela, se não eu acharia que ela era um personagem inventado e encantava todos com sua voz maravilhosa, tinha uma voz abençoada e única.
This song reminds me of family vacations to the coast , such warmth and inspiration of how it feels to be near the ocean with your loved ones, Just listen to these beautiful lyrics written by Richard Carpenter and sung so gracefully by his sister Karen. Wow! What a dynamic dual, it doesn't get any better than this. I thank you both for this lovely song.
@georgesilva1435. John Bettis wrote the lyrics to the song, "Maybe It's You" not Richard Carpenter. Richard Carpenter wrote the music and arranged the song.
How Karen was able to sing so insightfully with such incredible conviction at such a young age is absolutely remarkable! As her brother Richard so aptly noted, she was able to sing way beyond her years! That's why Karen and Judy Garland, in my opinion, are equally the two greatest-ever female singers of popular music!
This song reminds me of my childhood and sitting with my sisters as we listening to the latest album they purchased at the record store. Karen Carpenter’s voice is so comforting . 💕💕
Maybe it's you Maybe it's me Maybe it's just the constant rhythm of the sea Maybe it's just That I've never been the kind who can pass a lucky penny by Maybe it's wise Maybe it's not Maybe it's you who brought the caring I forgot Isn't it nice To talk about the special way that you smile whenever I'm around? Rising on the shore, the ocean came Walks along the waves of velveteen His only thought was love for me Couldn't we stay Or must you go? Couldn't we stay and watch the splashing rocks we throw? Only a fool would want to leave the paradise that I find whenever you're around Only a fool Isn't it nice To talk about the special way that you smile whenever I'm around? Rising on the shore, the ocean came Walks along the waves of velveteen His only thought was love for me Love for me Couldn't we stay Or must you go? Couldn't we stay and watch the splashing rocks we throw? Only a fool would want to leave the paradise that I find whenever you're around Only a fool Only a fool
Her voice is just devastatingly beautiful. The use of minor keys in their early albums was incredibly affective. Ugh, takes me back to the day she passed when I was a teenager. The world was stunned.

Acho que a Caren era um anjo desfarcada de ser humano . Veio alegrou nossos corações com sua voz de fada e partiu deixando uma enorme saudade. Elias Jandira SP Brasil
