Looking at this beautiful young woman with a wonderful talent, you would think she must have everything she desired of life. How tragic to think of her inner unhappiness, and what it did to her.

One lesson we can get from that is to not be jealous of celebrities and fame and fortune, and instead be content with what we have.

A very special kind of music, that represented so many wonderful things to those of us who remember. Karen was so much ahead of her time, as was their music. What a tremendous loss.

Such a clear, pure, utterly lovely voice. Gives me chills to hear this sweet old song again. What a tragedy she left us so early! Sad, sad. May she be at peace. Karen Carpenter, you beautiful, gentle lady. We miss you, we still love you.

As I woke up this morning my eyes glassed up & a tear ran down the right side of my face that soon turned into a small puddle soaked up by a tissue. It was 30 years ago Today that we lost one of the most wonderful spirits the world has ever seen & heard, her name was Karen (Carpenter.) I could never express in words what Karen personally meant to me & to this day she still has a profound effect on my Life & always will. I Love You Karen , Love Vic

Karen Carpenter had a true vocal gift that only a few female singers (Barbara Streisand, Gladys Knight, Minnie Riperton and Anita Baker to name a few) get to share. KC was truly one of the best of her era, bar none. This video also showcases how beautiful she was at a normal weight. Like so many in this forum, I still miss her and listen to her songs almost daily.

I was lucky enough to see them live in 1972 when I was just 10 years old. Even at that young age I understood what I was hearing! A miraculous voice of stunning authenticity and beauty. For me, Karen serves as a reminder of why I do not watch American Idol with all their talented but overblown bombastic singers. I don't think Karen would have made it past a later round on Idol because she simply sang the stuff so simply and honestly, quite unlike the puffery singers today are made to do.

The Carpenters still have millions of fans out there, judging by the millions of posts--not bad for a band that disbanded almost 30 years ago. I LOVE this song--the sentiment of it, the warmth, is perfect for Karen's voice--and she's perfect for the song--synchronicity. Such warmth, heart married with perfect pitch, tone. One of the greatest singers of the 20th century. The voice of an angel.

It sounds like I'm not the only one who experiences severe melancholy when hearing this song. Is it memories of the innocence of our youth that can never be recovered? Is it the times gone by we wish we could bring back? Is it memories of late family members who we were able to enjoy this song with since it was pure & beautiful, not vulgar & obnoxious?

Marriage at it's best is about two people who know initially that they share enough in common to love each other for a lifetime and then them wanting to learn all they can about the other one during the rest of their lives, I think this song does a good job representing that.

Exit Only You know, I learnt several years ago that Karen Carpenter never did a 2nd take!! Can you imagine that?! Her voice is the most perfect of all the female singers from Popular Music, beginning to end. No question. I love Chaka Khan, Amy Winehouse, Mary J Blige, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Ann Wilson, Duffy, Lauryn Hill and scores of other singers who are all incredibly talented and gifted. But if one is being completely honest... there is no match for Karen. Her voice has saved me from anguish many a time & will no doubt do so again! May she rest in Peace and be among those who are closest to God in Eternity/Paradise. She healed so many hearts yet found no ease for the brutal pain in her own heart. Bless You Karen, we love you so much down here! Peace, Regan
