The renovation of our 4-room HDB resale is almost complete! Carpentry was one of the most stressful parts of the renovation for us. The details really matter! There were a lot of parts that we needed to rectify after the works were delivered. Some of the mistakes we have decided to live with. Hopefully learning about our experiences will be helpful for your renovation journey of your HDB resale or HDB BTO flat. Stay tuned for more renovation vlog content!

Saw that you have recessed lights. Did you need to install a false ceiling for that or was the HDB ceiling deep enough to install them?
@LivingwithSun
@LivingwithSun Год назад
We installed a shallow false ceiling. About 7cm

Hi, may I ask what are the dimensions of that toilet paper niche? And how much bigger did you think it should be?
@LivingwithSun
@LivingwithSun Год назад
H 13cm W 13.5cm D 13cm I think the size is ok for us. I guess it depends on the thickness of the toilet paper roll you usually buy.

We got our fan from PO Eco! The model is Blizzard and size is 46".

what type of carpentry is this. looks solid. I've only heard chip board, melamine, laminate. so confuse
@LivingwithSun
@LivingwithSun Год назад
Hi! I believe the carpentry is mostly made of plywood! There's a laminate stuck on top of the plywood to make it look nicer. Hope that helps!

I too, sometimes wonder for the amount of money we pay for carpentry, can’t they use thicker wood (i.e the base of the drawers, and rear of cabinet)? Moreover the kind of wood they are using are probably the cheapest wood out there. 😅
@LivingwithSun

And the glue they always use is so toxic!

If you have a good ID, he should have drawn all the drawings using sketch up and 3D drawing with measurements, all all these nightmare wouldn't happen. Also if he is a good ID, he wouldn't use such a lousy workmanship carpenter. Wake up from your dream! Pay peanut expect lobster!

How long before it took for the carpentry smell to go away, thanks
@LivingwithSun
@LivingwithSun 8 месяцев назад
It really depends on how much you air the carpentry and ventilate. The smell for ours became better after a couple of months but there are still a few parts that have a strong smell even after a year. :(
@lzm82
@lzm82 Год назад
what is the issue at 0:09?
@LivingwithSun
@LivingwithSun Год назад
We didn't want the vents to be next to the appliances but have the vents placed so there is airflow behind the appliances. The contractor just decided not to follow our instructions and didn't tell us they were going to do it a different way. But this way works too.
@lzm82
@lzm82 Год назад
@@LivingwithSun i see. it is necessary to have the vents for the appliances like oven and microwave? or is just a good to have?
@LivingwithSun
@LivingwithSun Год назад
In general I think it's good to have (but more place to collect dust). Depends on the appliance you buy. In the installation instructions for our appliances it recommended adding vents.

In the 1st place all these things shouldn't happen if you have a good ID with him a good carpenter. Why should they be even fixing these error if they did a detail measurements and planning. Omg!
@uberinfinitegaming
@uberinfinitegaming 4 месяца назад
Always discuss detailing often by the time carpenter has measure after updates...Floor Plan and on site is always different. As a client, please clear all your doubts and don't be afraid to ask and dont assume all ID offer the same type of standard deliverables. Regarding the cooker hood...the top cabinet has to come out beyond standard measurement but it's not practical...that recessed hood is Telescopic where it flushes...a few mm offset. Be specific with your dimensions. All laminated are low VOC...this is standard ACROSS ALL SINGAPORE Laminate Brands unless your carpenter cheapens out buying from Malaysia. Adhesive smell is what you call it toxic and theres nothing you can do about it...who the hell moves in during carpentry installation...

You pay what you get. Want cheap and think all carpenters are the same? You and those cheapo home owners who think they are smart to get a good deal deserved this painful experience!
