Yes that is exactly how to do it

MoneyManHolmes no you would not use any Z-bar at all I actually have a video on that it's called carpet to tile transition if you watch that it should show you everything you need to know about that transition and thank you for the questions and for watching

Ryan Luedtke Laminate is a free floating floor, so I would install the laminate first then work my carpet to it, barely overlapping the laminate with the Z-bar so it does not trap the laminate from moving

Ravenpiart I would not use liquid now on the pad you can buy just a small container of carpet cement and just poke a hole in the top and go around the perimeter and the pad seems, check out my video on putting down carpet pad, I think that is the title of it, if you can’t find carpet pad cementJust buy a small container of contact glue and it will work the same way

I have rented a power stretcher that must be returned in the morning so I have to get this carpet installed tonight. The stores are closed. Can you tell me if any of these adhesives I have on had will work? I have wood glue, liquid nails and silicone. I have a partially used roll of carpet tape, not enough to do my room. I wish I had asked you first. The guy at the hardware told me to use liquid nails.

Ravenpiart that will be fine I didn’t know you was in a tight spot just make sure you smash the liquid now real good because when it hardens you don’t want to feel bumps because the stuff gets really hard when it sets up so just dab you some may be about every 8 inches around the walls and use what tape You have on your pad seems

ReinSman100 Yes if you are on wood subfloor do you can always use an electric staple gun and turn and Tac It or some people call it roll and staple, I’m sorry I don’t have a video on that right now most of the flooring onto is on concrete but I will be getting one up eventually

FloorsbySouthernboys The only problem is that it's concrete. Everyone of these apartments has slack in front of the z. Bar. I don't really know what to do about this issue.

FloorsbySouthernboys I meant that the carpet lost the stretch just before z.bar. A crease or bunching up or rise. You will almost trip on it.

Steve Gourmet Yes you can use Z bar next to a vinyl plank, just make sure your placement is correct, do you want to just have the edge of the Z-bar covering the edge of your vinyl plank just barely , And no sir you should not glue your last row, you should not fasten your vinyl plank to the floor anywhere by anything, it needs to Be able to move freely, so it cannot be touching any edges or fastened down anywhere

FloorsbySouthernboys thank you so much for the reply. Does it matter that I will be gluing the Z-bar down to concrete? This is for a basement floor which is obviously cement. It just makes me nervous because the guy who is doing my installation said he recommends using a T molding and the Z-bar could damage the vinyl plank or cause the vinyl to pop out down the road.

Steve Gourmet No sir it will not damage or pop out, as long as you leave the proper expansion gap like I explained you will be just fine, and obviously you do not want to beat the Z-bar down really hard on top of the vinyl plank, and even if you are gluing the Z-bar I would steal sink the nails that come in the tack strip

No you wont need any other transition strips,the z bar is a finished edge.and no you wont feel a lump under the carpet from the z bar because it is thinner than the pad. yes you always need tack strip or a gripper metal in doorways (if your working on concrete) to hold the stretch, a transition piece will not hold it if you stretch it properly. You can get by with stapling the carpet down and using a transition piece if your on a wood floor.

FloorsbySouthernboys The kitchen and livingroom are attached. Im putting vinyl in the kitchen and rug in the livingroom. Its about a 12 foot length where theyll meet. And it will be heavy foot traffic. I need to use a tack strip? The tacks wont poke through or nothin? Thanks

that depends on the thickness of your carpet. if its a concern you can always use a gripper metal that you tap down to secure the carpet to the pins that the gripper metal has, you for sure wont feel them. after the metal is down you will only see a 1/2 inch of it, thats all that is visible when your done

FloorsbySouthernboys Ya i think the gripper is the way to go. Im just trying to go cheap. Those transition strips with no channel, just like a strip of metal with a slight bend in the middle, they seem cheapest but i guess theyde be no good unless i tried stapling the edge down. Cuz a tack strip wouldnt fit under there. One last question..i can just staple the underlay right it dorsnt need to be glued? The floor is actually lino over wood. Actual lino not vinyl. Its 30 yrs old but in great shape no curls or holes or nothin. Itd be hell tearing it up. Thanks again and i subscribed

SPARK Sure just a flat metal they come about seven eights of an inch wide inch and a half wide and like 2 inches wide of multiple colors and nails to match

Trigger Toes If it is damaged too far to stretch up I would suggest taking a piece from a small closet and patch the doorway and then find an extra piece of carpet to put back in the closet that way it’s not so noticeable if it is a shade different or something in the closet

@@FloorsbySouthernboys wish we could share pictures here. The metal, z bar I guess is showing . It's off of hallway so I'm thinking to use something else against wall to push it not that far . But I have to beet Monday when carpet cleaners are coming

@@FloorsbySouthernboys well I'm trying to draw you a picture with my words Forget the closet There is no carpet there All that is left is a metal tin piece at the junction of where carpet meets vinyl. A straight line with strips of plastic about 2 " long Can you see this I can tuck them under the tin. I also have a sandwich bag full of string and 2 inch carpet yarns

Jason Northey It actually holds up rather well I have pulled up carpet that has been down for years and the Z-bar is not wore out whatsoever and then other cases you can see where it does wear out the carpet at the Z-bar I kind of think it depends on the quality of carpet but more than not it holds out really well

FloorsbySouthernboys yeah I guess it does depend on the quality and I wasn’t questioning you or anything in any way I’ve seen your other videos and see that you are good in what you do. The Z bars I use are different.
