For the turn and tack method, there is an easy way to create a straight fold. Using a pencil, lace a few dots on the carpet backing exactly where you want the fold to be. Now flop the carpet back and lay your straight edge along the marks that you made. Run your stair tool back and forth on the carpet backing lightly. Hard enough to weaken the backing a little, but not hard enough to cut or damage it. The carpet will now have a 'natural' fold in it ant it takes very little effort to keep the edge straight.

I have the Smartpro vinyl (wood look) flooring. I have a T-moulding to transition from vinyl to kitchen (stick on 12 x 12 vinyl squares). That was fine. However, the Reducer piece has a slightly different shape, but is essentially the same as the T-Moulding. Am I correct in having the slightly higher side on the reducer strip toward my bedroom carpet (I am sure this is probably a "stupid" question.). And, do I glue and use a couple screws to attach the "channel" to the floor, then have the carpet "butt up" against the higher side of the Reducer strip?
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys 4 года назад
Amber Orm yes you do want to screw your channel down to the floor, and the thicker part of your reducer transition will go to your carpet however your carpet will not go under it, once you have your reducer installed then you can use a Z-bar to finish off your carpet to your reducer , Here is a video showing you how to use Z-bar , Good luck and I hope everything turns out well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jQCeZyy7Nmo.html

Excellent video Reuben, great tip for the newbie. most of the time I like to use some tack strip about an inch away from the vinyl to help keep a nice straight line and keep a tight stretch then turn and tack. no need for the pad to to fill the gap. Then of course I go with z bar when installing over concrete. Keep the awesome videos coming !
