tina silver The Grand Steeple Chase De Paris exists since 1874 and the course is 6000 meters and occurs on the racecourse of Auteuil (that the French nickname "the temple"). There are two river jumps (more than 8 meters ...) and the famous rail ditch and fence (nicknamed "justice of peace") at the end of the course, 1.60 meters high and 4.10 meters wide. In France, the cross country is very different from the steeple chase and Auteuil Racecourse does not cross country. You should watch the Anjou Loire Challenge that occurs at the racecourse of Lion d'Angers (the longest cross in the world with 50 obstacles and 7300 meters ..). In comparison, the Grand National of Aintree has "only" 30 obstacles and 6907 meters ....
@@litogor That you so much for your full and enlightened reply. I will research as you suggest. I have been to many racecourses but never Auteuil. Have you ever seen the Velka Pardubice? The longest cross country race in the world in 26 miles, in Mongolia. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0r2npRWWWC0.html
@@anotherblonde I have already seen the Velka Pardubice in video and I know that it is 6900 meters and 31 obstacles (spectacular race) and that it is quite similar to the GN of Aintree but no comparison with the 7300 meters and the 50 obstacles of the Anjou Loire challenge, which is a real pure cross. The horses of the Czech race would have no chance in the Grand Steeple Chase Of Paris or in The Gold Cup Cheltenham (too fast for them). Moreover, 6 of the last 7 editions have been won by French breeding horses that could not even win a middle level race at Auteuil in their own country of birth. Your 26-mile race in Mongolia is not a cross country but a marathon without a lot of speed. The horses of Mongolia are very enduring but in speed on 6000 meters they could not follow a thoroughbred or AQPS. I think that all the races of obstacles are beautiful and all the people deserve respect but in the whole world there are especially 3 countries far above the others since always for these races: France, England and Ireland. Happy to chat with you because you give the impression of loving horses. Look to understand that the French cross country is not at all like the French steeple chase ------> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FPLLwPRvrw4.html
@@litogor Thank you, watched the Anjou race you linked. Amazing quirky course. No Chair fence or Beecher's Brook, but a varied assorted me obstacles, that in a non race setting I would enjoy to jump. Yes been into racing since age 5, owned and ridden ex-racehorses for many years. Your channel gives no info about your equine knowledge or location.
Would be great if the top french chasers would have a crack at our Big Chases like the Hennessy, King George & Gold Cup like the days of Francois doumen with the likes of Nupsala, The Fellow, Algan, Val d`Alene etc. Added alot of spice to the Jumps scene.
How good is this horse, he got the distance so easily, I think maybe he could be a Cheltenham Gold Cup contender next year if they sent him to the UK, and if he could take to the Cheltenham undulations and stiff finish. Must say Auteuil is a very flat, but beautifully designed track.
The great Irish chaser Captain Christy was 2nd in this in 1975 giving the winner Air Landais 4 lbs. Also Spartan Missile was 5th in 1979, and 1965 Grand National winner Jay Trump finished 3rd in the same year as his Aintree victory.
mervyn charter The last British victory in the French Gold Cup was in 1962 and it was a huge feat! Was voted the greatest ride ever in a 2006 Racing Post poll. The race was listed in The Guardian as one of the greatest races ever. The horse was called Mandarin, the jockey was Fred Winter and the trainer was Fulke Walwyn. Learn about this legendary story ..
Carriacou just joined the race on the last circuit didn't he? ha ha, great ride for Davy Russell, a passenger all the way round, I thought Burrows Saint would have been a bit better but he's still a novice and perhaps the ground done him...
@@steviertvandssrhead5133 I think they call it Group horse on the flat, Grade horse over jumps, not being picky, I see that Michael O'Leary's going to wind down his Gigginstown stud runners over the next 5 years, so we won't be seeing those colours as much in the future. I want to see Tiger Roll go for a third English Grand National, it's what Michael O'Leary should seriously think about, just give him a couple of runs before another tilt.
@Kath BeckDifferent sized fences between Hurdles and Chases. The cross country race is exactly that it's not called the Gold Cup. Or are you to thick to understand the difference.
@@clivesangster7274 A winner of the Grand Steeple Chase De Paris is likely to win a Cheltenham Gold Cup but a Gold Cup winner has almost no chance of winning the great Steeple Chase De Paris! If Willie Mullins was inspired by French training and buys most of his champions in France it is not by chance ...
@@clivesangster7274 Please shut up because you are stupid !! You do not know anything about horse racing because what you write proves it !! Neither Willie Mullins, nor Nicky Henderson, nor David Pipe have ever won this race since the last British winner in the French Gold Cup was in 1962 ....
