As someone that went through the foster system... This song is so relatable. You never feel like you fit in, you know these arent your people, and you wait for them to ship you off. Life is an onion. So many layers, so many trials. However... Somehow, God finds a way to lift you up, and get you through. You can't dwell...thay leads to dark places. Stepping stones... this reminds me of the night my grandfather passed he held on for everyone to get to the hospital but 1 uncle that lives a 12 hour drive away and isnt allowed his phone in the prison he worked at so my aunt gave him a kiss and told him that my uncle wasnt going to make it and said it was ok for him to go on to heaven to meet his wife and everyone and we all told him bye and we would see him later and it wasnt 5 minutes later he took his last breath so we all think he was waiting on us all to be with him

I lost my dad to cancer 14 years ago and the last verse hits me hard everything. It is so hard to see the strongest man you have ever known wasting away in a hospital bed.

I relate I and my 9 brothers and sisters where taken from a broken home full of abuse. I spent 6 years in 12 different foster homes. In 1 of those 12 foster homes I went to a church at age 10 and heard my first sermon on the rapture of the church which means those who are born again one day will be caught up or raptured up to meet Jesus in the air as 1 thess, chapter 4 talks about I gave my heart to Jesus and no matter how many more foster homes i went into I knew one day I'd have a permanent home called heaven and never ever be kicked out of that home.

the part of the song where she is talking about the halfway house... she is assuring her daughter that they won't be going through the struggles forever, she will find a way... so her daughter could feel EXACTLY the way your mom made you feel when you guys were struggling... you were sheltered by your mom's strength and perseverance just like that little girl... So you may not have felt that way but that because your mom, and that little girl's mom made sure you didn't... they were the ones who had to bare that burden silently hoping a break would come along... so when you were homeless your perspective absolutely correct from the little girl's eyes. Mom got this, we are fine, She will protect us. I grew up where my mother had to raise 5 kids (me being the youngest) in a shelter for 6-7 months. So I also know why i never felt that I could not relate to this type of struggle... My mom made sure of it every day as she did for all of my family up until she perished in a house fire 4 years ago in the very house she crawled us all out of the gutter in.

Welcome to country music. Songs like this will start and you'll think, "Oh, that's sad." Then you'll get to the second verse and think, "Wow, that's even sadder." Then the last verse comes and you're just a puddle on the floor. It's like they teach this formula somewhere at "country music writer school." LOL And it gets me every time! I'm a country music and I've heard this song more times than I can count. But when my uncle went into hospice, RU-vid just happened to suggest it to me. I don't know if watching it at that moment was a good idea or not, but now every time I hear it, it wrecks me. I'm not even kidding, I read the title of this video and saw what you'd be watching and I started to tear up. Your reaction was great to watch, because those of us who knew what was going to happen were just thinking, "Oh, you have no idea what's coming." Those first two verses are very sad, but not relatable to me personally. But that last one? I feel like everyone can relate to that. Even if you're an atheist and don't believe in the afterlife, you probably had a grandparent who did, or someone that you loved. My uncle, who I was talking about earlier, was agnostic. He went to church with his wife, but he didn't really believe in anything. Right before he passed, he told my mom (his baby sister), "I hope I'm going to a better place." 😭

I didn't find my home until I turned 23. A beautiful old house that feels like a warm hug every time I step inside. The place is full of good people who love me for all I am, not what they want me to be. My warm, loving home full of laughter and joy.

I lost the only father I had ever known 5 years ago. He adopted me when I was 4 but I don't remember the other. I still bawl when I hear this song and it hits harder bc 2 years ago I then lost my grandpa who always felt like my only grandparent. I start crying right as it plays but then the crocodile and ugly tears come on the hospital bed scene. I got to say goodbye to my grandpa but not to my dad and I've never fully gotten over that. This song will always make me emotional.
