Kent, I have the same AC Unit and mine just stopped working this evening. A quick google search led me here, and I ordered the same capacitor from Amazon. Its still there! Even if this doesn't fix my issue, I wanted to say thank you for the great video. It was incredibly helpful as I would have been spending way more time trying to figure out initial steps as to what to do! Cheers.
Good Video. Searching parts online can be risky since they all look the same on the outside. My AC was making noise last week, but working. I already had a capacitor on order & arrived before the fan stopped. Since it quit today I was up & running in 1 hour. The last universal capacitor only lasted 1 year.
Nice work Kent. another option might have been to just buy a 5u cap (since the compressor still seemed to work fine). Just hook it to the Common and the brown wire and voila!!
Afterwards I noticed there was an unused 5uF tap on the universal capacitor I could have used. The real point is capacitors only seem to last 10 years. As the cap ages and fails it could have harmed the compressor or the fan motor. Very expensive repairs. So it is good insurance to replace them both.
Capacitor life is effected by voltage and temperature. Many technicians prefer to replace a 370 volt cap with a 440 volt cap, especially if the original did not last as long as expected. Reason for failure could be power surges, slow start-up, or frequent brown-outs. Thus selling a 440 volt capacitor is value to the customer, especially if he is provided with dirty power from the utility. The 440 volt capacitor can be expected to last longer than the 370 volt if current draw is normal. In some cases adding a hard start kit could spare the run cap some abuse, where power is dirty or low. Anything personal, I add a hard start kit.
Hi Kent, thanks for tutorial. I checked my capacitor and originally has dual capacitors. The technician came and install one capacitor and cancelled the dual one. Is that right?
Hi Kent, Would you say this is the same capacitor issue? It buzzes when the fan is running. I have a video link and an image of the model. If so, can you help me with the part? Love your videos. video -drive.google.com/file/d/10W4h-hKmUF2UivpjCl9Edu7tCnW6A3_3/view?usp=sharing image - drive.google.com/file/d/1BMiaZ-zlRXgHEcKe9KmUxEotXE7uMh60/view?usp=sharing Thanks Kent, Chris
The buzzing sounded like the compressor so it could be a capacitor problem. First thing is replace capacitor. Then try a hard starting kit if still a problem.
