Carrier Ratting 101 - Drone Patrol - EVE Online 

and the moment you get this a small gang warps to you and nukes your carrier in 20 seconds and they will thank you for the free kill youve worked for so hard lmao

A lot of people run them because they are faster. You don't rat for ticks really, you rat to get escalations. That being said, you can do this site in a myriad of MUCH cheaper ships and i am honestly scratching my head as to why one would think risking the price of a carrier for a mediocre ratting site is worth it at all. You will barely make enough to cover fuel. You can run these sites in an ishtar, or even cheaper if you're a competent pilot.

@@DagobertDogburglar That makes sense. I guess it's all about style of game play. I used to do patrols in a Gila and then Ishtar, but I don't play that much anymore. For me, it's all about maximizing ticks, since I only play for a few hours a week. If I get a carrier/sentient spawn or escalation, it's more of a happy accident than a goal for me. Also, fuel isn't an issue for me. I almost never use it. And I mine ice when I do need it, so besides the nominal reprocessing fee, it's almost free. The added bonus is no isk spent on ammo. But to each their own.

Honestly, I felt the answer to this question in person recently after coming back to EVE again, surprised to see it asked here. I did Drone Herds to warm up then went for Drone Patrols - it was nice and fast, didn't lose any fighters. Then I did Drone Horde and there was so many frigates including elite ones that I quickly lost a fighter and I booted it out of there. Drone Patrols just have a large number of big ships that can be taken down fast.

@@DagobertDogburglar A long time ago, only carriers had the dps to actually clear these sites fast enough to get 100 mil ticks. Now so many ships have gotten boosts and other options have become available to get 1.5k - 2.5k dps easily. People who bought carriers then (for big capital ship fights and as force multipliers and part time ratters) are just using them instead of blinging out a marauder or something similar.

Do you mean the fighter controls? On your Hud at the bottom right corner, you should see a button with 6 dots arranged like an arrow .. if you click on that you can toggle between your modules and fighters ... once the fighter controls are visible you can drag them up.

Sorry for the late reply .... Carrier or Paladin ratting on Drone Horde sites, you can make about 200m per hour (depending on system BRM)

There were a couple of wrecks which had good loot in them. So I normally drop an MTU and bookmark it ... then when I'm done doing other sites etc. I can then warp to my bookmarked MTU and either just get what it looted or start salvaging all the wrecks which would then be in the same spot and not scattered around the place ;)

@@NETFQ the ONLY wrecks that ever have anything are the rare carrier spawn, or the sentient battleship spawn. thats it. now if youre gonna do salvaging, then thats worth it

Yeah this is true ... but why not turn them on? ... just set and forget ... again, as you say, they aren't needed but hey each to his or her own ;)

in Drone lands (where I'm currently based) .. you're looking at around 25m per tick (20 minutes). Not that great.

I use thanatos in null in drone area. I make around 30 mil tick. It's all about targeting speed and fighter velocity. Definitely add drone nav module for velocity, and sensor array. I know, it sucks if you can't warp, but to each their own. And ALWAYS have a cloak equipped. I've used it when I'm landing in a site and nuets come in system. Just cloak up before the npcs target you. No need to run

I've never been ganked in a carrier while ratting. Just keep an eye on your intel channels and local, and don't rat in a system that's too big (~100AU diameter). Ratting is not my only source of income, I also do Industry, market trading, exploration, PI, and have a skill farm.

Do you think carrier ratting is worth it these days? Since you’re already using alts, I have to ask, why not multibox ishtars or, better yet, run 3x smartbombing praxis and a sniper (for drones a paladin nightmare or apocalypse)? I feel like the ticks must be comparable but you have less isk exposed on grid.

Because they aren't stupid, this is being done in sov or with backup.
