Great video, Dr Lee… and I appreciate you’re sharing some family stories with us. My dad was a Sheriff’s Deputy in Pulaski County (Little Rock), Arkansas. One day he told me he got assigned to transport a prisoner on what Dad called a “sight seeing trip” over the course of three days. It turned out that the prisoner was none other than Henry Lee Lucas. Dad was the leader of a four man ‘team’ guarding Lucas, as he led detectives all over creation, pointing out where several of his victims were buried. I don’t think anything ever came of it in terms of finding any victims however, as Dad described it as Lucas wanting a field trip & using his dozens of claimed murder victims as his ticket for such a trip. If I remember correctly Lucas took several of these field trips in just about any jurisdiction where he had either killed someone, or there were missing individuals that he somehow knew about. I remember asking Dad if Lucas was as weird as he seemed on TV. He said “TV doesn’t even come close to portraying this guy.” He said Lucas was the only man he had ever encountered that didn’t seem to have a soul at all. Prolific killer and perhaps an even more prolific liar. Dad was supremely good at sizing people up… so that’s stuck with me over the years. Just thought I’d share that. As always… we really enjoy seeing you in videos, Dr Lee. All the best to you & the family. 👍🏼

That's crazy: Those are almost the identical words my dad used to describe Henry Lee Lucas. Almost verbatim "the only man he had ever encountered that didn’t seem to have a soul at all. Prolific killer and perhaps an even more prolific liar!" My dad also said looking into HLL's eyes was like looking into a goat's eyes....no soul...

@@OutontheRanchwithDrLee-xb4lo Killers too often hide amongst the population with no one being the wiser I suppose. But then there are killers like Lucas, where it’s inescapably obvious at only a glance that the guy is just wrong. Merry Christmas, Dr Lee!

Haven't watched the full thing but the first minute. Wasn't expecting to be held at point today haha. In fact it looks like three of the main gun safety rules were broken in the first forty seconds ( I assume you don't want to destroy your camera). Which I'm sure you did on purpose to mess with us haha. Made me tense up though :).

What a great video about the history and importance of firearms in so many of our lives. Thanks for sharing and I’m hoping people will appreciate the history even if they aren’t firearm enthusiasts. I can’t get over the worth of the two super rare 1911’s Matt showed us. Wow!

Hello Dr Lee, I have been watching Matt almost since he started his youtube career(s). I was a fan of Mark's work too. I am fighting leukemia, crohns, kidney failure and more. I have been trying for a while now to talk to Matt, can you help me? His comedy is so like mine among other things, and I want to tell him in so of my darkest times watching his videos help me in my battle, especially when the few times my body was failing me. Last yr my vit.k was so low i lost all motor use and my Dad found me on the floor going into arrest and i was awake and couldn't say bye even though i was looking right at him. My life has been so hard for 20 yrs i have lost 6 or more yrs of my life fighting to live from the hospital. I would love to tell you more i ranout of space.

It's so cool that your family has a bond through firearms, and shooting together. I wish mine did. I, seriously, think that if more families could share that love of firearms, there would be significantly fewer crimes committed with firearms. The number one thing that would almost end gun crimes, and accidents, is the one thing no politician ever suggests, Dem or Rep. EDUCATION! If more families had range days together, it would be the best gun safety education.

Matt, I really loved listening to your dad’s stories. I was a police officer for 26 years and a U.S. Marine for ten years. I love the 1911 and I carry my Springfield Armory 1911 TRP with me everyday every time I leave the house. I couldn’t agree more with the need for good men to be armed and prepared all the time. Dr. Carriker thank you so much for sharing your stories with me, I hope we get the opportunity to meet one day. I wouldn’t mind sharing a cup of coffee with you and hearing some more great stories.

I think this is my favorite video of yours. I'm our family historian, an Army wife (ret), & have a son with a Criminology/CRJ degree. Yesterday was my 53rd birthday and my husband and son gave me two guns. Both were designed for my arthritic hands and we are going to the range this weekend to try them out! Birthdays have turned into gun giving days in our home. My son has my husband's .22 he carried in the Army for his 30years. Passed it down on our son's 18th birthday and gave him his rifle when he graduated from college. My husband has incredible stories of his days in the infantry and in military intelligence, so naturally he and our son bonded over guns and war stories. I'm still learning about guns, but I have two great teachers in my men. We are at the beginning of our gun heritage, but hope there will be generations to follow that can add to our stories. By the way, Matt's arsenal room is goals! Lol. Thanks for sharing your guns and family history with us. You're a grand story teller like your Uncle Floyd. 🥰

my granddad always had a Japanese rifle, samurai sword and the actual flag flying on his ship the day the Japanese surrendered on the wall in his basement while I was a kid. funny thing on the flag was his captain asked him to take it down after news of the surrender and give it him. my grandfather took it down,of course, but swapped it on the sneak and gave the captain some other flag….and kept the actual one for himself.🤣🇺🇸 (and great story telling, once again 👍)

Many people from other countries don't understand our love for guns in America but honestly this is one of the big reasons we love our guns so much. Because of the heritage and the memories we have and create with them. We then pass those memories and the heritage onto our children like our fathers did with us. I have several guns I hold special. One an Ithaca pump 12 gauge that was my grandfather's. And Winchester 12 gauge my father gifted me for Christmas when I was 15.

I grew up around firearms, (Dad was a LEO) & I married a police officer, whom I met on the job as a civilian employee in a police department. I spent 21 years in it & dealt with many 911 calls & emergencies, tragedies, etc. About 5 years prior, I'd survived an intense random hostage ordeal. It changed me in that I realized that being safe was not just about avoiding walking down a darkened alley at night or all the other things we were taught at home & in school. You have to practice situational awareness. You have to be mindful of what is happening around you. Most people don't practice this, I discovered. What happened to me had happened in a crowd & all except for one guy, (my rescuer) - were oblivious to what was going on & their surroundings. I'm a firm believer that if you take the firearms from the law-abiding citizens, you guarantee that only the police & the criminals will have access to them. And that is not a safe place for anybody. I want those criminals to keep guessing.

Great stories with great history. All my firearms were left to me by my oldest brother in 2008 when he passed from cancer. He left me the house I live in as well. Last year I finally managed to harvest my first deer. It was a small doe, but I shot her with my brother's shotgun, out of his tree stand, on the property he left me.

I, too, had an Uncle Floyd. He was my Great Uncle; my grandmother's older brother. He built houses before the war, and then housing subdivisions after it, as a contractor in Visalia, Ca. He told stories of being a young laborer on the jobsites. The contractor he worked for either didn't have any money, or didn't want to pay young Floyd for cleaning up and being a "gopher" around the jobsites, so Floyd was paid "in guns". The contractor had a ranch outside of town at that time. And every Friday afternoon, Floyd would go to the ranch (on horseback) to pick out his payment. The contractor had what Floyd described as "whiskey barrels full of guns". Floyd was allowed to pick out any gun of his choosing, once per week, for two summers. Many of those guns are still in the family today. Guns are a part of American history; and often times, family history too. Thank you for sharing your stories Dr. Lee.

Just wanted to say to you how much entertainment, relief from boredom I have received from your son, and you. Having said that... I have had the pleasure of being beguiled with stories over the decades... I am 56 now. Stories from Texas, and Oklahoma about a great many topics. And.... Your mannerisms, expressions remind me of those stories told. I do think we have a distant familial connection, as most would if their family were from that part of the world. Matt resembles me at 30 . I did not have the benefit of being raised in Texas, nor Oklahoma. But. My mother's side of the family did. We have our own newspaper, there is so many of them. Pugilist, contractors, singing sister's, Mason's, inventor's, ranchers, and I can't tell you how many times I've heard (10) Ten in Texas ( reference to the measurements/Land) And so little about the journeys from Scotland. Thanks for doing this! There's not one thing wrong with remembering. By for now!

My grandma’s brother became an alcoholic after WWII. All he told the family was that he did kill many of the enemy and refused to say anything else. The alcohol did and didn’t kill him. His body was found in the local river. His fishing boat was found first and his beer was there in the boat. Despite the efforts of his family to restrict his alcohol intake, he always managed to get it. He never dated and never married.

Dr. Lee, thank you for sharing, I am definitely a Gun Guy, I was raised with them and have enjoyed them my entire life. My Dad was a hunter, so his association with them was geared toward hunting and little else. My Older Brother was equally afflicted with the gun bug, a hunter also but more a recreational shooter, he had an appreciation for rifles and handguns, but did not share any affection for shotguns. They are both gone, I have a gun from each of them, but I also have that appreciation for blued steel and walnut that spans a diverse spectrum. I am probably the last cowboy in the rodeo as far as my family goes, my son isn't too interested and I ended up buying back the ones I had given him. He also has three sons but my daughter in law isn't too red hot on the boys inheriting anything of that nature. My daughter had a rough go of things and her sons also, they all share a legal disposition that disallows them from possessing a firearm. My nephew and great nephew, will receive a couple, but I am going to end up being that old guy at a gun show with a table selling his life's work gathering, tinkering and collecting. I made the serious error of gathering the skill sets to be able to put the darn things together, so I exponentially expanded in number by that methodology. I developed the bird hunter's cravings and had an equal attraction toward shotguns and such, I prefer double barrels in 16 gauge, but I own the full range from 410 to 12 gauge. In addition, I am a reloader also and have all the trappings needed to construct everything from precision ammunition to plinking. Thank You Brother for sharing some insight into the Carriker History, I always enjoy the journey.

I saw my grandpa shoot squirrels out of his pecan trees in Geneva, Ga. where he was the mayor for ten years, with the .22 single shot and the .410 single shot. I shot my first quail with the 12 gauge single shot. Dear ole Dad inherited them from him and bless his heart, he thought he was doing the right thing, and got them all reblued. My Daddy grew up on a farm outside of Big Spring, Tx, when he was 9, in 1951he harvested watermelons for a lady who gave him a .22 single shot rifle for his work. I finally got to shoot it when I got as tall as the gun when I was about 5 years old. When I turned 9, it became my first gun, my son's first when he turned 9 and now my grandson's. Four generations have learned to shoot with Dad's reliable little .22and I can't wait to see the next little one who gets as tall as the rifle have their turn with it. Dad left us an enviable collection of firearms and stories of how they came to be too, great video Dr. Lee!

Dr. Lee that is a great video I started watching when it came out and got sidetracked until tonight. The Japanese battle rifle almost made me gasp because as the family historian I have a cousin (my grandfather's favorite) who died on Iwo Jima Pvt Wilfred G. Ouellette, Jr, 5th Marine Division. He died in the mop up on D+18 and I have always thought about the 18 days he spent on the island and the things he saw from the combat to the raising of the US Flag and that rifle is an amazing artifact and reminder of the struggle for the island. Last year I had the honor of talking to a work friend's father who had been with the 4th Marines of Iwo Jima and we spent 25 minutes talking to him at 92 and is was like he was there and amazing to hear his story. It was so emotional for him and all of us that he has to stop but the experience I will treasure forever. Thank you for sharing your Heritage and for the family tradition. I have tried to live my life by Matt's rule of "Doing one thing today to make your life better tomorrow." and I am sure you had a part in teaching him his great values. I also loved feeling your love for Mark through the screen and pray for your peace as I have watched my in-laws dealing with the lose of their son for the last three years.

Thank you so much for this video. I enjoyed hearing the stories on your collection. As a child in the 50's my Dad started me shooting at a very young age. My brothers and sister weren't as keen as I was on shooting. I have many good memories of shooting targets, and later small game hunting with my dad. As an adult when he could no longer go to the hunting camp, we would deer hunt together on what was part of our farm. Since I grew up on a revolver, I never got use to a semi-automatic. I finally got a S&W M&P 9mm, it didn't have a safety. The salesman said "the gun was safe, you could drop it and it wouldn't go off". I took it to the range a few times didn't feel comfortable, so I gave it to my son-in-law. He carried it for a while. He dropped it coming in through the garage, and the gun went off when it hit the floor. Luckily the shot did not go through the house. Needless to say, I got the gun back, and it sits in the safe never to be discharged again. The first handgun I bought was a S&W model 60 J Frame stainless. I loved that gun. I carried it every day until it got stolen. I replaced it with a S&W 357 magnum model 640 stainless. It's hammerless, a little heavy, but I carry that gun every day. 17 years after my model 60 was stolen I got it back. I figured it was the neighbor kid that stole it and when he saw the police at my house, he likely traded it to his drug dealer for drugs. A few years after that the drug dealers barber business was busted, and my gun was in the safe. I didn't have stock grips and for whatever reason the police didn't know where the serial number was on the gun, go figure. It sat in the safe at the police station for many years. One day a young officer went in and removed the grips found the serial number and back to me it came, after 17 years. Apparently, the drug dealer also didn't know where the serial number was as all the other guns confiscated from him the serial numbers were removed. When my dad passed away, I got quite a few of his guns. shotguns, rifles, and revolvers. One was his 12 gauge Remington semi. I shoot left-handed and it ejects across my face. When my brother's son started to go small game hunting, I gave him that shotgun. My hammerless saved me from an intruder in the middle of the night. He had two guns, but I removed him from them, and waited for the police to get here. It took the police 45 minutes to get here, it could have ended so much worse. My gun is just another tool I carry, the same as my pocket knife. It's there if I need it, and if I don't no one knows I have them. Wishing your family a Very Merry Christmas.

Never knew the name Henry Lee Lucas, but wow... the fact that your dad/Matt's grandfather held that very pistol to keep a watch over him is an incredible story. God Bless your entire family! Edit: from hard tears to straight laughter when you talked about Mark's Kimber #2: That Iwo Jima rifle is absolutely something I would want to hear about and regret I hear it later, I did a report on The Battle of Iwo Jima in 8th grade during our WWII unit. I literally sunk back in my seat when you said what that rifle was.

Great video, Dr. Lee. My dad had only one firearm (1940 9mm Luger he took from a surrendering German officer). All matching serial numbers and mint condition (mine now). I’ll be passing to my first born son. In contrast, I do have a two gun safe collection and avidly shoot on a regular basis.

Another great video! I have a bunch of 1911’s as well. Just bought my first Colt SAA. Very touching talking about how handing guns down can be a very intense experience (especially when loved ones are no longer with us). I always get sentimental when I shoot my dad’s guns. He’s been gone for 50 years.

I am happy to see that someone else loves the ole 1911 as much as I do! I once owned a Singer 1911 that I got as gov't surplus (long story ) in Hawaii. Sold it shortly after my daughter was born and all my other guns as well....did not get "back into" firearms until after I retired from the Postal Service! My father in law was a "mud Marine" who did the march across the Pacific during WWII and he never shared about that time. I enjoyed this video a TON! I currently only have one 1911, a Dan Wesson custom one. When I was in the Navy the 1911 was the sidearm for every armed watch stander so I handled hundreds of them over my navy time....and loved every dang one of them! Uncle Floyd's Single Action Army .45 long cold is sweet! I sure hope you never put modern smokeless powder ammo through it!!! and the WWII luger is a piece of art! Sadly after my small stroke in Sept. I still have double vision so I do NOT feel safe enough to carry currently but I am hoping the vision clears up and I can get back to shooting for enjoyment and carrying for protection. Great storis you shared my friend I may watch this one several times just for the enjoyment!!

Hello Dr. Lee I live in Springtown tx. I just wanted to show my appreciation to you sir. I wish all fathers could take after you. I am a father of some young ones myself and I strive to be the god fearing, loving, strong father that you have been for your kids. I appreciate you and there are not enough good men like you in this world. I myself have a bolt action long barrel 12ga from the early 1900s I got from my step father that I have only shot a handful of times only because it is fragile. I treat that gun with the utmost respect even though it may be worthless to others. Heritage is so valuable and dollars cannot give it worth. God bless you and your family sir.

I have a little 32ACP pistol from my Grandfather. He was with a medical company in Europe during WWII. The story he told about it was that his commander ordered him to stand guard one night, and he didn't want to because, as a medic, he wasn't armed. His commander pointed to a pile of German weapons that had been taken off of injured soldiers, and told him to take his pick. I never understood why he chose such a small little pistol, but then I don't know what his other options were. Thank you for sharing your stories. I love hearing the history behind the special firearms in your collection.

@@Grey_Duck well I am a native Texan and I’d like to welcome you both to the great state of Texas. Most of us respect the law and realize that the Texas and US Constitutions are the ultimate law of the land. It states right in there that “any law repugnant to the Constitution is null and void on its face”. Seems way too many Californian, New Yorker,, and Chicagoans among a few other lawmakers have forgotten this. That’s why we have organizations like FPC, GOA, and SAF. They are kicking the hell out of the government in court and will continue to do so as long as they keep attempting to compromise our rights.

Dr. Lee I love watching all of the Carriker videos beginning with “Vet Ranch”. I have enjoyed the Carriker family’s channels for years. I feel that I would be remiss not to point out that the “one side” who you remarked “wants to get rid of all the guns” is not correct. This could not be further from the truth. It has been repeated over and over until some folks BELIEVE it to be true. We, on the “other side” also hunt, collect guns-and have enthusiasts. Even if we didn’t the worries over gun violence would still remain. Many people under the false idea that all guns were to be confiscated began to stockpile all kinds of guns and ammunitions fearful that their freedom would be taken away. If I had one wish in the world it would be that we could trust one another enough to stop with the “untruths” We could use a little more trust in the world. Thank you for all the joy that” Dr Lee on the Ranch” has brought me and every one of your viewers.

Talk about a trip down memory lane you really traveled far and wide. My dad was a hunter so I was raised around guns. One year up in the Catskill mountains (I was about 12 years old), while on a hunting trip, dad decided to go looking for a Christmas tree to take back home. He handed me his rifle to hold and began cutting down the tree. Dad was careless and forgot to engage the safety, and the gun accidentally went off missing dad's leg by inches. All I knew was my ears were ringing and the rifle was on the ground behind me. My dad was looking at me with horror in his eyes. Thank God he was not hurt. Ever since then I have the deepest respect for gun safety rules.
