Thank you for the reminder Dr Lee. I recently had the opportunity to be kind. I was behind an elderly lady at the grocery store. We started talking about the high costs and how hard it is for seniors like herself. She said she shops once a month for groceries. When it came time to pay, every card she had was declined. Broke my heart! She was about to walk away. I paid for her groceries. I had tears, she had tears, the checker had tears! I was the lucky one to be able to help! 💞

I am a pilot. About a week ago I found a wallet with almost $1000 innit on the ground at the airport. Because of where it was I knew a fellow,pilot had landed to make a bathroom call along his route. He laid his wallet on the wing of his plane. He later forgot about it,for in his plane and took off for home. We found ID showing his home a few hundred miles away. I had someone make contact with him by cell and he flew back to get it. So ……a few days later, I lost a $50 bill. Could not find it. Gave up. Next day in my local coffee shop, the owner came over and sat with me and showed me a camera surveillance video on her phone of me walking in, and a bill falling from my pocket to the floor. Another patron found it and turned it in to her. She rewound the security video and bingo, there’s my $50 bill. That proves Karma right there.

I am a recovering road angry old lady. I have been so tired of people driving recklessly and flying around me in dangerous conditions that I started laying on the horn and even shaking my (pointer, not middle!) finger at the driver. I knew that was not constructive and could even be dangerous depending on the other driver’s disposition. So I started praying asking for peace and control in those situations. Today the same thing happened again and I didn’t get upset, blow the horn or shake my finger…at the total idiot driver. 😉 Prayer answered. 💕

The world is a really ugly place right now but there are kind people out there. That story about the man filling the woman's car up with gas really touched me. The world is ugly - there is a lot of bad things happening right now but there are also a lot of good things happening. Kindness should be instilled at an early age, I believe. Thanks for this. Your video popped up on my feed. We never know what another person is going through. Hugging is healing. I learned this when I was working in nursing. There is medical research that talks about the benefits of hugging. You’re right about the world losing faith in kindness. Kindness is a two way street. It not only blesses the person you’re being kind to, but it also blesses you in return. Love like JESUS.

Thanks so much for this video. The day after my husband died, I had to go plan his funeral at our church, and Bailey the therapy dog came right over to greet me and sat right by me through the planning. I'm getting a puppy in a few weeks, and the breeder knows I will be training the puppy to be a therapy dog, so she'll pick the right one for me. Assisted Living centers, nursing homes, homes for the disabled, all are short-staffed at the patient care level, which makes for a lot of loneliness, and a therapy dog can help even non-verbal people feel better. No matter what other people do, we can spread the kindness and compassion, and make the world a better place.

I’ve been on crutches for 26 years due to an accident. One of the gifts that has come my way is that I have had the opportunity to experience kindness. A random person offering assistance, holding a door, or offering to help me in some small way. Without the crutches I don’t believe I would be so aware of the kindness of others and so aware of doing for others when I can. Blessings come in disguises - be sure to look for them.

Hey Dr. Lee, I went to a lecture once by myself and I don't know why but I sat in the second seat in a row of seats leaving the first one empty. So, the lecture starts and who comes to sit next to me but Mr. Rodgers. He never wanted to make a scene so he would just pop in & out right after something started or right before it ended. What a nice man! My kindness for the week is to go to a tea with my 89 yr. old neighbor on Weds. I learn so much from her, what a sweetie. Good things are happening it's just the ugly that gets put on tv. I think it's like stirring the waters to purify them. We are getting purified. YAY!

It’s so beautiful the way you worded and encouraged others to be a reflection of love, in sharing kindness towards one another. There’s not nearly enough of it shown in our daily lives. Sorry for the loss of your friend. I am so glad my sons show kindness to others. My 36-year-old son made a trip to the pharmacy and the grocery store for me yesterday. When he got to the parking lot there was an elderly woman sitting in the passenger seat of a Porsche. She motioned for my son to come over to her. He went over and she asked for his help getting out of the car. He had to sit in the driver's seat to push something for her door to open. She couldn't reach it from her side of the car. Her husband had already gone into the grocery store. My son helped her, and she also told him where her purse was located and asked if he could get it for her. He helped her and she thanked him, and said I guess I could have made my husband do all the grocery shopping all by himself. My son happily went about finishing his tasks. He was happy to have gotten the chance to sit in a Porsche, but said he prefers something with more leg and head room because of his height.

One of my psych professors said to fight depression look for something to compliment on others. I try to compliment at least one person every hour. And I have to be carful how I phrase it too....”the flowers on that dress are so pretty”, “those boots look so warm” or “that shade of purple is so happy” seems to work so far. I find a specific detail so the person doesn’t think I’m hitting on them.

Amen to that Dr. Lee! I have posted on my facebook wall a few times that I miss the America i grew up in...... i grew up in the 60s and 70s and we never had to lock our doors. Neighbors helped neighbors in need. We respected our elders and had manners. If i have something i no longer need i will give it to someone who needs it more than i do. I open doors and hold them and offer help when i see help is needed. I just cannot get over how rude and nasty our society has become. Kindness is a rare gem these days. Always smile and say hi. Kill them with kindness as the saying goes. God Bless!

My wife and I often walk our 3 dogs on a network of former railroad beds that have been converted to hiking and biking trails. We had just parked where the trailhead crossed over a road and as we were getting the dogs out of the car an older man on a bicycle tumbled off his bike as he hit a washed out low spot in the gravel, right where the pavement ended, that had been obscured by a thick lsyer of fallen leaves. He fell pretty hard but fortunately wasnt injured; We helped him to his feet, and after he went on his way I took a picture of the washout gully as it looked when full of leaves, and then I kicked enough of the leaves out of the way to take a photo that showed a ditch about 10 inches deep and a dozen feet long. This occurred on a Thursday morning; I phoned the local town responsible for this type of trail maintenance (difficult to navigate their phone system and speak with the right people) and so I emailed them the pictures and a description alerting them to the dangerous trail conditions, suggesting they fix it before the weekend when the bicycle traffic was likely to increase by a factor of 10. I drove by there Friday evening, and again the following Monday evening, and it still hadn't been repaired, so I sent the town another email; they finally got around to fixing it the following Tuesday or Wednesday morning because I drove by on Wednesday afternoon and the leaves had been blown away and the gravel freshly flattened and graded, the washout filled. Definitely not as responsive as I would have liked to have seen ---- I sure hope nobody was injured in the interim ---- and I would have been jumping up and down mad if this was in my own town and not a neighboring town..... but anyway, I hope nobody else was hurt in the 6 days or so that it took for the town to get around to fixing the problem, and that there won't be lawsuits over it. The moral of the story is that sometimes it may take a bit of effort on your part to get a problem solved, and you may never know for certain whether you helped somebody or not ---- but you should always follow the golden rule and do what you hope others would do if they found themselves in that same situation.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. May God bless you and his loved ones with comfort and fond memories of your times with him. In my 60+ years on this planet, I've learned that you tend to see in the world what you choose to focus on. If I look for the bad things going on, those things will jump out at me. When I look for good things, I tend to see good stuff everywhere I go. While I cannot control the actions of others, I can control my own actions. As the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world. We can make positive changes in the world, and while we'll never fully see how far it goes, each deed of kindness cause a ripple effect in the ocean of our lives. I love the lyrics of this song, and I try to live by them: In a time full of war, be peace In a time full of doubt, just believe Yeah, there ain't that much difference between you and me In a time full of war, be peace In a place that needs change, make a difference In a time full of noise, just listen 'Cause life is but a breeze, better live it In a place that needs a change, make a difference In a race that you can't win, slow it down Yeah, you only get one go around 'Cause the finish line is six feet in the ground In a race you can't win, just slow it down In a world full of hate, be a light When you do somebody wrong, make it right Don't hide in the dark, you were born to shine In a world full of hate, be a light Thank you for this encouraging video, good sir.

I have been blessed to grow up in a family where kindness, please and thank you were taught but also affectionately used with us kids. In 2010 when my children were 4 and 6 my Dad passed away after a 4 year battle with cancer. At his funeral I was deeply touched by the number of people that told me and my siblings how kind my Dad was to them. Some shared they looked up to him and my Mom as role models as a couple because they were so talkative and nice to everyone they met. My Dad didn't get to spend very many years as a Grandpa, but he sure did enjoy it for those short 6 years. Now teenagers, I do hope I have done him proud to bring up 2 very kind and affectionate kids, continuing his legacy of kindness.

I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by the uncivil and even hateful behaviors of humans , and your beautiful video has helped remind me why I worked so hard to instill kindness and humanity in my own children and grandchildren. It seems people are lost, and we all need to work so hard to bring back these back - it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you so much for this video. Your stories help put things back in perspective for me and give me renewed faith. If it weren’t for kind beautiful people who walked into my life when I was a young child living in a really crappy situation I wouldn’t have thrived and survived. One of the earliest memories I have of the kindness of others was when a young vet and his wife moved into our town. I was maybe in or seven and he was fresh out of vet school. I would walk by their mobile home just to see them because they always had smiles and kindness to offer this lonely little kid. Doc Bicknese started up his practice in town, and 50+ years later he still graces the vets office once in awhile. Every time I drive by his old vet practice I’m briefly taken back to the time when their smiles and words were all that gave me hope and I smile and say a prayer for him. He’s long since sold his practice, and he’s lost his beautiful wife, but he still treats all with kindness and humility. You remind me so much of Doc. Thank you.

Most of my working life I was privileged to be a tradesman at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. I cannot tell you how many wheelchairs, flat batteries and crutches we fixed for our vets. There was never ever something that we were doing that was so important that we couldn't stop and help. Many years ago I was chatting in a hallway with one of our doctor/researchers. We were in a research building, far from the hospital proper. Up came a tiny old black lady in her VA robe, obviously lost. I told her I'd be glad to walk her back to the hospital building and find her bed...the doc said, "No, you're busy...I'll do it." So down the hall they went- a little old vet and an incredibly accomplished doctor. This doctor had also been an astronaut in a former life...a wonderful soul. I thought, How lucky I am to work here... Thanks, Dr. Lee.

I've been in and out of the hospital 8 times this year with acute kidney failure and that on top of a bad case of Lymphedema and Lymphorrhea, well it took a lot out of me because I'm in my 70s. I was struggling getting my trash can out to the curb for pick up. Had a hard time getting it back to the house too. Then my neighbors started bringing my trash can back to the house and then asked if they could bring the can out to the curb. It made my life a lot easier. Then they started bringing me dinner once in awhile, sometimes leftovers, sometimes picking up something from a restaurant. Always refusing to be paid back. They've helped with picking up groceries. Offered to take me to doctors visits, etc. I have GREAT neighbors!

Sorry that you lost a good friend Brother Lee. As we age that scenario becomes more and more common. I too lost a good friend last week and he was younger than I am. Mr Rogers was a staple in our home when my daughter was young and even after she was "grown". A fine example of what we SHOULD all be like! As an employee of the Seattle Mariners I saw (too many times) the selfishness of folks when it came to foul balls and home run balls. I kept my pockets full of baseball cards that I could share with fans both young and old and over the years I made many permanent friends simply by sharing my joy at having them at "my" ballpark. It also did my heart good to see where you were sitting....in your 'vette, yep, I recognize a corvette door latch when I see one! Today is 11/11 and I will spend the day in remembrance of my brothers and sisters who have served this nation with pride and honor. And just between you and me, I really do enjoy being helpful! One of the things I do is paint watercolor postal cards and hand them out to folks I meet during the day. it's amazing what that small gesture will do to brighten up someone's day! Keep doing what you're doing and know that YOU are a beacon of kindness to others. with your permission, may I share this video on my facebook page?

I love your videos like this, Dr Lee. It’s no wonder your kids turned out to be good humans too! Hubby and I attended a rock concert in Detroit a few days ago and going there is always a shocking reminder of how selfish and horrible some people can be. We hate being in crowds and cities because of how ugly it is.
@goodun2974
@goodun2974 7 месяцев назад
Frank Zappa was once asked why his concert-going fans seemed to stay about the same age although he was getting older: he replied "that's because as you age you lose your tolerance for having people vomit on your shoes"! Being 65 myself and having arthritis, it's also important to note that I can no longer stand in front of the stage for several hours waiting for a band to come on. The only shows my wife and I can attend are clubs and theaters with seating, or outdoor shows where we can bring lawn chairs and a blanket. And anyway we hate shows at gigantic, impersonal stadiums and hockey rinks. Guitarist/multi-instrumentalist David Lindley (R.I.P.) used to say that Japanese audiences were the best in the world; they have encyclopedic knowledge of every song, every record you ever played on, every band you ever played with (which in Lindley's case is a very very long list), and they applaud politely for 10 seconds in between every song and then there's absolute silence as they wait for you to play the next one, and only at the end of the show do they have a polite mini-riot! (In case you've not recognized the name, Lindley played for and toured with many famous musicians ---- Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, David Crosby, the Ronstadt/Harris/Parton "Trio", and many more, playing nearly every stringed instrument from anywhere around the world: lap steel slide guitar, violin, mandolin, banjo, ukelele, Bouzouki, Saz, Oud, Chumbus and more, and his world music collaborations with indigenous musicians of Madagascar were breathtaking).

Hey Brother Lee, we are the same age, and a long time ago a good older friend of mine which became a multi, multi milliomaire, told me something that has stuck with me for a long time. He said the one thing that costs you nothing and says a lot about you, is to say thank you. He had a lot of employees and if he passed them where ever he was, he stopped and would shake their hand and tell them , thank you and thanks for doing a good job.If I would do something for him be it ever so slight, and he didn't get to tell me in person, I would get a call from him and he would tell me thanks. I told him many times, Gary you don't need to keep telling me thanks, I know you apprieate it. He said no, I never want anyone to think they are not worthy to be told thanks. I miss Gary and the wisdom he instilled in me, and I always say thanks to people. So I 'm glad you did this video, and hope the younger generation pays it forward.

I can't do your assignment today Dr Lee but everyone I care about knows because I learned to make that known to everyone because when you don't have the chance anymore it is horrible dealing with that guilt and I decided to never let that happen again. I did however attend a celebration of life ceremony for a 27 year old kid that was killed in a car crash and there was a guy that got up in front of the crowd and told his story of how he was the "nerdy" kid in school and how the boy that was killed helped him through just by being kind and being his friend. You could hear the pain in his voice and visibly see that speaking in front of people was not something he enjoyed to do to say the least so after the service I thanked him for sharing his story and told him that i was proud of him because I know it takes courage to do that and I could see the gratuity come across his face and he thanked me for saying that to him. So like I said I can't do your assignment today but I think I did it before watching the video and just because that's who I am.

Wonderful video. Years ago I went to visit my aunt at a nursing home on a Sunday afternoon. When I came out of the elevator there was a line of residents in wheelchairs all done up in their finest likely waiting (and hoping) for family to come to get them. Their faces lit up hoping I was coming to see them, you could see the disappointment when they realized I was not there for them. Then it hit me some of these older frail women will be crushed because the expected family may not show up at all. I back tracked and made a point of speaking to each one and telling them how wonderful they looked and did they get dressed up for me. Everyone giggled and laughed and you could see them brighten right up. A few seconds of time and a small gesture can go so so far.

Amazing that I watched you today because so much in my life has kept me from being faithful in watching you recently. I feel the need to share something with you. My sister just had to move into a little apartment for low-income residents. She has always been a knitter and she called me the other week to say she has so far donated knitted toboggan hats to about 5 different charities, including her little country church who were preparing boxes for children in places of need. I asked how many she made to donate already and she told me she had a few left from last winter and has donated about 75 already this winter. She does not have a lot, but she has a good Christian heart and I told her how proud I am of her for doing this. She now has so many people donating yarn to her and giving her money to help her out with her mission. She said she felt so good about all this. I then told her I had done something I felt good about that very day, also. I was hanging on to a gift certificate that was given to me for my birthday two years ago, from a dear friend of mine who passed away right after it was given to me. It was for a local restaurant and I too am alone in life, and decided to do something about this $$25 gift that was not being used. I walked down to the restaurant on a Sunday when it was always busy and asked the hostess if she could point out someone dining in there to whom I could give my gift Certificate. She directed me to three elderly ladies sitting together and told me they were celebrating the one lady's birthday. I walked over and handed the gift certificate to them and told them to enjoy their meal and of course, they asked why I was doing that. I told them the story and that I knew he was in heaven and looking down at me smiling. They told me that I was so sweet and that there should be more people in our world like me. So my sister and I both had the best feeling the same day. Our mother raised us to be kind and giving and unfortunately, not all of society have mothers like we did. By the way, my sister is 81 and I am 78.

I began studying human behavior at 14, in part to try to understand the abuse I endured. I’m now 73. I am convinced that raising children with violence and cruelty toward them and animals teaches them it’s acceptable behavior. This form of child rearing goes back hundreds of years, crosses many generations of abuse. One of the worst quotes from the Old Testament is “is spare the rod and spoil the child.” Very different from “let the little children come unto me.”Thanks to social media and numerous public role models I won’t list, many of them whom I’ve also studied and discovered had been abused as children, it’s become fashionable to be nasty. What impresses me, in a society where abuse is so prevalent, there are a large number of people who survive such families are kind and descent human beings. Mr. Rogers was an extraordinary human being. He showed children there were adults who were kind, loving and valued children. If you look at the amount of funding allocated for protection if abuse victims compared what we spend just pork barrel projects it’s says much how we as a society value not just generally but the most vulnerable among us.

This was a good one Dr Lee. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend Dr. Lackey. Thanks for sharing his kindness with us. I grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Fred Rogers was seen walking around Pittsburgh a lot. People would call to him and wave or stop him a lot and speak with him, I don't know how he ever made it to where he was going! He always had a smile on his face, always! I never wanted to bother him, so I would wave and say "have a beautiful day". This video made me think of a vet that I had a lovely encounter with, many years ago. We adopted 2 dogs, they were litter mates. The one was born with an ear infection, passed on from the mother's canal. She would get these infections from time to time. I took her to a reputable vet that turned out to be a very bad experience for my then puppy. I knew (in my heart) the medications were wrong. My neighbor at the time told me to go to a local vet, he was older and could no longer do surgeries but still was in practice. I went to see him and he came into the exam room all happy and chipper introduced himself and said "what brings you in"? I explained the story, how I felt and showed him the medicine. He blew a gasket, threw the ear drops in the wastebasket and said "those drops are like putting acid in my puppies ear". Well naturally I cried and said a few words about the other vet. He came over to me and put his arm around me and said "mom don't worry, I'll make it better, she'll be ok now". He gave her an injection and new ear drops. Her ear was so red and irritated that he didn't want to flush it. I went to pay the bill and it was wrong, I pointed out that the ear drops were not on the bill or the visit itself. The tech went to the Drs office, came out and said that he was not charging me for them. I said that I had to pay for them, it was not his fault that I was given the wrong drops to begin with. I argued for a bit, but to no avail. In reality that was a financial blessing for me. My husband and I were young and struggling. The initial vet appointment was an expensive one. I don't know if he sensed that or what his reasoning was. I however had a new vet, unfortunately he unexpectedly passed away less than 2 years later. He never said a word about my initial visit. I always pass along kindness. Around Halloween, I stopped at a dollar store to grab milk and a mother could not pay for all the pirate stuff for he son's costume. They voided the transaction and I had them ring everything up with my milk. The mother cried and I got the absolute best hug ever from that young man! Happy Veterans Day, God bless.

I got my 1st tattoo in February @ the good old age of 58yo. It's a saying my grandmother told me all of my life & of hers. It reads "You get more with honey 🍯, then you do with vinegar." And a bee 🐝 is flying around to the honey bucket🍯🐝. I put it on my shoulder blade so I could let people see it or I could hide it. I'm not a tattoo kind of person, but I thought about all the negativity in the world so I went for it, scard & all. My only regret is I didn't put it where everyone could see it all day long. I also be really nice on phone calls to. You do get more things when your nice, but that's not why I do it. Customer service folks always get screamed @ for no reason. They keep on apologizing for no reason & I keep telling them if the other person done his or her job right to begin with I wouldn't be calling them back & I'm glad I got them to help me get this all straightened out now & PLEASE QUIT apologizing for something you didn't do. Then I get them laughing & next thing I know is that we've been on the phone for over an hour & a half. Then I start praying they don't get into any trouble or lose their job. Then they say this was the best phone call they've ever had. Then I'll say I think God has put this on my heart to lift up customer service folks with laughs bc you'll always get yelled @ so it was my pleasure to make your day a little easier. Well I hope you enjoyed the story Dr. Lee. Have a wonderful evening & God bless. And yes, let's make the world a little kinder in the world., Chris from Missouri

Dr Lee, this video is by far, my favorite one you’ve made. Thank you for the wake up call! I just read this on social media and it is so fitting for your message. Again, thank you for being you.🥰❤ “On my flight from San Diego to Nashville yesterday, sitting in the row next to me was a 96 year old woman who hasn’t flown in 15 years. For her birthday she wanted to go to Kansas City to see her family but she was scared of flying. She asked for this man’s hand during takeoff and then hugged him again when experiencing turbulence. This gentleman I should say, gladly took her hand, let her hold onto him, calmed her by talking to her and explaining everything that was happening, and simply was that stranger there for her. He knew just what to do the entire flight to help. He helped her stand up to go to the restroom and watched her carefully walk down the aisle. He held her bag, helped her get off the plane and into the wheelchair, and when she got confused wondering where her daughter went (she called her her sister), he stayed with her until she caught up with her daughter who got separated from her. She was so grateful that she wanted him to have her flight pretzels. Hats off to you sir, for your kind heart and your compassion toward someone whom you’ve never met. ~ Unknown”

When you lose your culture you lose your sense of community, you lose what makes people "neighbors", you lose your country. In many of the forgotten parts of the country you can still tell you're in America but in the populated areas there's so many people from this place or that place, people with this culture or that culture, this orientation or that ideology, that its hard to find anyone who just calls themselves an American. That's why kindness is disappearing, there's no kindness for people you see as "other". I am so sorry about the loss of your friend Dr. Lee.

Your story about the lady dressing up reminds me of when I was a home health RN. One little old man who was a quadraplegic and completely bedridden told me he was so depressed at how useless he was. This was a guy who spent his entire day, when his family or nurses weren't with him, praying for the children in the world. I told him he was worth more than most millionaires, billionaires, and fully mobile people on thie Earth. He gave me the biggest smile. All that happened because he had told me that I "looked like a million bucks" when I came through the door and asked me what I was all gussied up for. He got tears in his eyes when I told him it was all for him, because I figured he might be tired of seeing us RN's parading through here looking like we'd been sleeping in our clothes and that I just wanted to realize he was worth dressing up for. That memory is in my bag of good things to remember. ❤
