Chelsea staked her musical basis in country and folk, and then she expounded upon that with deep dark streaks of gothic rock, industrial noise, and punishing extreme metal. And she does it masterfully, IMO. Every album is like an apocalyptic siren song. Not many people can make a folk album out of Rudimentary Peni covers, for instance, and pull it off. But she did that. lol Please, please, PLEASE give “The Waves Have Come” a listen. There’s no official music video for it, but it’s such a gorgeous piece of music in general tbh, and it’s one of her absolute best.
The Waves Have Come absolutely deserves attention, it's a beautiful song, oh and by the way there is a video which accompanies it...as well apocalyptic footage Chelsea has on the red dress from the Pain is Beauty album cover
Abyss, the album that this song is off is just amazing- just do yourself a favour and just go and listen to the whole thing! Highlights for me are Maw and After the Fall. Chelsea is such a talent.
one of many favorite Chelsea Wolfe songs is The Culling, which in true Chelsea form, hauntingly beautiful, but if you want Chelsea Wolfe and stripper poles, then her song Spun fits the bill perfectly
I was the one who made the “uninitiated” comment, but it was in response to someone’s recommendation of Lingua Ignota’s “Do You Doubt Me Traitor”. Chelsea Wolfe and Kristin Hayter (the woman behind Lingua Ignota) are labelmates who are both equally enamoring…but Lingua Ignota has some really emotionally dark songs. The first time I listened to her album Caligula, I put it on while working….and had to stop it. I can’t casually listen to it, even though it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. She’s been through a lot and she really makes you feel it through her music. She’s an artist you need to be eased into. “Pennsylvania Furnace” is a good start. Also, more Chelsea. 🖤
I am so happy to see you checking out more songs by the lovely and disturbing Chelsea Wolfe. When I saw that you had chosen Carrion Flowers, I was like... hmm, not sure Ginger knows what she's getting herself and poor Mike into now... When I suggested Be All Things, I tried to ease you into her, which seems to have worked, but you're now diving headfirst into the darker side of her 😅 CW is absolutely the Queen of Goth. Starting mostly with some dark neo-folk, she gradually included industrial into the mix, which was evident on the Feral Love song you previously reacted to, and then on the album that Carrion Flowers is picked from, Abyss, she pretty much went all-in on the industrial gothic sound. Never one to rest on her laurels, on her next album, Hiss Spun, she went all Doom Metal (done in a Chelsea Wolfe way, obviously, with gothic and industrial bits). Finally, on her latest album (which includes Be All Things), she returned to more acoustic dark folk resembling more of her earlier years (albeit, with a somewhat different sound). I can tell from what you say that a song from Hiss Spun has been suggested for your next reaction. I believe there are 4 or 5 official videos for songs from the Hiss Spun album - I suggest checking out one of these two: A) "Spun", the lead-off track which is a very dark and doomy song. The video is pretty disturbing and definitely not suited for kids (but then, none of her videos - or music for that matter - is) B) "16 Psyche". To me, the better song of the two, certainly a more straightforward song. The video is a bit less "X Rated" as well (not sure this is a positive for Ginger 🤔...😆). If you want something else and less "scary", I may suggest what is probably the best song on her latest album - "Deranged For Rock'n'Roll".
I used to see Chelsea when she was still finding her place in Sacramento, in pizza parlors and art spaces. Her early gritty gothic folk turned into industrial, turned into doom, and she last album brought her back to folk. It's an amazing journey, and I highly recommend anything off the newest album.
New one for me…love it. Reminds be a bit of the 80’s 4 A.D. artists. Another suggestion from a brand new band from the Czech Republic. Blitz Union…Plastic.
Loved this one..... everyone of my friends I have played Chelsea to also loved it so I guess I don't associate with normal (might be the reason I don't do relationships) ;-)
Yeah, Chelsea Wolfe is a dark angel... she's out there...somewhere scary perhaps... especially if this represents inside her mind. Intense and edgy...still kinda post-rock...in a good way
