I have said for years that EE is on the list as one of the most underrated guitarists in rock n roll history. His leads are little melodic songs within songs.
Elliot Easton has been one of my favorite lead guitarists since the late '80s. Those melodic lead lines really get to me. The two solos he touches on in this video just happen to be the same two that I've been working on learning.
One of the reasons why I started playing the guitar was Elliot Easton's solo in Tonight She Comes. I had a cover band during college that played Cars' songs. Seeing you music heroes, Ric being the most recent one, fall one by one is really disheartening. But such is life. :(
Those are two of my favorites as well. He didn't have to play a lot of notes because he always played what was right for the song. He is definitely an underrated guitarist.
EE is educated and articulate, which makes me think of EE as a guitar professor. You can tell by how articulate that EE is that his mind is alert, which means he has not fried his brain on alcohol and drugs, as have so many others among his musician peers.
The Cars were on the billboards up there with Classic Rock Giants like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cheap Trick, Queen etc in the 80s, I don't think he was under rated.. he was getting the glory with the band, but I don't think he was a super outspoken musician at the time.. he was on Guitar Mag & others plus MTV galore but I think he's got more time to get out & talk now. @@tim6128 You don't have to play it like he does to play the same notes he does. I learned it by ear and I'm in different positions, but it's still spot on.
Actually, they're all supremely talented.. the keyboardist plays clarinet, bass and sax, Benjamin Orr plays everything, Ric of course is a genius, they're pretty much all geniuses, which they would have to be to create that first record...

Double E i san incredible guitarist. Have to save up and get a Gibson. His solo from (Wearing Down) Like A Wheel was the coolest thing my 12 year old ears had ever heard!
I play SG's and man did I want this one!! Worked for a guitar shop in the early 2000's and even then, with my discount, I couldn't afford it. Sadly, no longer available. You gotta pay some very big bucks to get one.
I have one of those guitars, the 124th one infact. I must say as a lefty my self its so hard finding guitars that are just what ur looking for, an this guitar is brill. The 57' pick ups sound great through a valve amp cranked up. An the neck is just so playable. I love that the custom sign is fliped aswell. I used 2 be a les paul man. But this made me an sg guy lol. The only bad thing i can think of is the whammy bar isn't the most high tech thing but its a very short down fall
Nice to have a Left handed dude talk about his guitars - I wonder if - as in my case - if he is right handed except for a couple of things - in my case it's shooting pool , guitar and shooting a rifle - I shoot a pistol right hand but rifle left - it's the damnedest thing - it has blown my mind since I was a little feller - being a lefty guitar player set me back but - I wasted precious time trying to play right handed
Well, another one I can dream of owning someday ! I am very sure Gibson is asking a ridiculously high price,,, and at the end of the day it is still an SG ,,,with a hood ornament,,, lol,,,, 😎
I'm not really into the blue SG colour....not my type. I'd rather have a cherry SG with a glossy semi-transparent coat-one that lets you see some the texture of the wood.
