Love this song, especially when Ben was there. Miss this Band, so great in their day. Sad how time goes on and all the good memories fade. But their music and videos will stand the test of time, thankful for that.
@Lisa Surlie well I don't know about that Ben was in a band called "Milkwood" with Ric, Ric has his own style of singing as does Ben Orr did that's why the split the singing duties for certain songs because Ben sounded better on some as Ric sounded better on the others
@Lisa Surlie could be but each crafted there certain sound among each other I could always tell a Ric song from a Ben song and soon I knew each and every song and who was the lead singer on it so Candy O oh that is Ben Orr or Panorama oh that's Ric Ocasek
Greg Hawkes playing the bass for Benjamin Orr, that's awesome. Glad to see all the original people playing together and no one standing in for Ben.. If TJ Robinson is on drums.. Can't see for sure.
They sound as good on this video as they did when "Touch and Go" was released in mid 1980. And perhaps it's "Touch and Go" where every element of The Cars' musicianship, songwriting and sound are poignantly melded into one memorable tune. Note how on this song the individual talents of all five boldly and flawlessly shone forth -- from Greg's keyboards and David's syncopated drumming, to Elliot's soaring but disciplined solos, to Ben's extraordinary bass line, to Ric's vocal and his catchy minor chord in the verses. Yet no one member outshines any other on this song. No one is the superstar. That was never The Cars' way.
They actually played Loolapalooza in Chicago after this show. I know this because I was at this show and thought it was the last night, Wilbur they added Loolapalooza just after Boston.
Greg Hawkes on Bass ?? AWESOME!! Not complaining at all, but it's odd that Elliot chose to go with a Gibson on this track. In the past he always used a Strat or Tele for that compressed echo sound on those little fills he'd play on Touch-N-Go. But in any case his solo here was outstanding.
Looks like Ric and Elliot are playing their Gibson's here. I believe Ric's playing his trusty Gibson SG he had since the early 70's. Have to admit I feel that The Fridays performance from '80 of Touch and go is superior And on that Elliot played the white Strat, while Ric played his Dean Cadillac.
