There is nothing so illuminating as evidence and the truth.

Christopher Boehm is on the right track toward a science of human nature.

"Raiding for women is universal among hunter gatherers." Also we know that modern hunter gatherers practice arranged marriage. Dating is a completely new phenomenon that could only happen once we invented cars. Women were never mean't to be happy.

Primitive notions of warfare are interesting to learn about, even in this day and age ;)

I'm not sure what the other side of this argument is supposed to be.

The other side: either the myth of the "peaceful savage" before he was "corrupted" by notions of private property; or "human nature is just a social construct" and therefore human behavior is infinitely malleable; or, very often, both.

He sounded terrified. I'd recognjise that vocal quiver anywhere. Same thing that happens to me

Of course it happens. There's no age limit on fear

Interesting, the lack of data for ethnocentrism of aboriginal Americans.

+joe schmo We were too busy killing them off and rounding them up on reserves to give a damn about their previous ways of life!

One indication is that most Indian "tribes" called themselves by a name that translates as "the humans," although that was not the name they had for other tribes.

This all needs to be contextualised within broadly trans-egalitarian societies where different bands cooperated via material exchanges, celebrations and as sources of mates. The women used laughter and mocking to diminish expressions of superiority.

but TODAY, 'we' make certain that 'we' encourage bullies, bullying-- by making it illegal to do anything but Tolerate The Bully, The Asshole, The Criminal, The Terrorist, and all The Functionaries of The Tyrant; this is the state of our 'civilization'.

It's important to understand that every hunter gatherer group is unique and each generation is suscebtible to chage. Yes hunter gatherer groups are normally egalitarian but something changed to get us to this point. There was a time in our history where the person trying to control the group actually succeeded and they changed their ways. If that didn't happen then we would still be doing the same thing. A possible scenario where the "bully" could gain leadership of the tribe is if he managed to domesticate something like a horse. If he rode back to the tribe on a horse he would possibly be seen as something of a God, someone to follow, someone with vision. He could use that power to take control of his tribe. Just my thoughts.

@@caradocapcunobelin2875 The change was most likely agriculture. Where the one who had the most crops controlled the rest.
