Seems like a really good dude. He’s criminally under-appreciated. I always knew he was good. But I never realize how good he truly is until I did a deep dive into to DMB During the pandemic because I had so much free time. He’s easily a top 10 drummer of all time.
I disagree he’s under-appreciated, he’s literally one of the best drummers of all time across all genres, and is treated as such. You might just mean drumming in particular is under-appreciated - to which I would concur. But as far as drummers go, Carter is widely revered as top notch. And rightfully so! He’s a god!
@@jjmah7 There’s a difference between being under-appreciated and one of the best drummers of all time. The reason why I said he’s underappreciated is bc wayyy to few people bring his name up when they’re talking about the greatest rock drummers ever.
He is amazing. Any drummer that is worth a shit will tell you the same thing, even if they don’t listen to dmb. If you really get into drums you’ll be surprised how highly rated he actually is, even among people that start their sentence with ‘I don’t like dmb at all, but…’
Haha he’s easily a top 3 drummer of all time and he’s not under appreciated at all, everyone who has seen and heard him knows and admits to him being just flat out phenomenal. The only thing is Dave Matthew’s Band comes with this stigma.. a lot of people hate on them and talk shit and make fun of anyone who likes and listens to them, even if they’ve never heard much themselves so generally Carter isn’t as widely known as he should be. People know certain drummers names bc the bands they’re in are so huge and popular, even if they don’t listen to those bands.. but when you say Carter Beauford people are like huh? Who’s that??? DMB is weird too.. I’m a big fan.. and they have a huge following, ton of fans, but they also have a ton of haters it’s weird. But they’ve been together and playing for like over 30 years.. touring, pumping out albums.. definitely extremely successful and Carter is a GOD among drummers!!!
One of the most unique drummers I've ever had the privilege of experiencing. He's just got his own method/style...much more active than most drummers in my opinion. Carter and Lars will go down as MY 2 favorite drummers of all time!!!
I think Cater not looking back so critically and heavily at his past music yet still keeping himself in live playing shape is what makes this band last this long and create unique albums. Sometimes looking at social media, album reviews/listening back to albums, and not having a personal life (as carter does golfing and so on) cna ruin and burnout bands. Thanks for capturing this!
I'm not a percussionist, yet I still worship the ground that Carter walks on. Nothing but massive respect for him and his incredible talent. Fantastic interview!!!
He is such an awesome guy, always smiling. Also in my mind one of the best drummers ever, got to see him in Toronto and it was a constant pocket in between the most mind blowing fills and ghost notes.
Carter is SPOT ON. Musicians hate being asked who their favorite guitarist/drummer/etc because there are way too many amazing people who’ve inspired you. It’d be unfair to single one name out, honestly
Lmao, surprised theres not more comments of the online watchers bitching about the setlist. "They didn't play the songs I think they should so its a bad set." Boo hoo hoo. Sooner or later people will realize the band isnt the same as the big 3 days. And thats ok. They've evolved into what they are. They still put out great music. They're not in their 20's or 30's anymore. Just like people who bitch that the concert is over at 1030. Of course it is. They're on stage 30 mins earlier then they usually were. You're still getting the same 2:10-2:25 of song time that you got in the past. It just starts earlier and ends earlier. Stop crying, sit back, and enjoy the ride because it aint gonna last forever.
All I can think when I see these interactions is I'm so glad I don't have to pretend I'm engaged with the same conversation with random new people 12 times a day. (Not a dig on you... Carter probably doesn't think that way but I do lol)
Pretty DOPE! Kinda wish he'd been able to answer all those questions you were spitballing him, instead of steamrolling your own interview or 'interview,' though, completely understand the Nerves were at work, and quite sure I'd've been in the same exact boat, if not much worse, lol!
