I guess I should not be surprised that my favorite drummer is also a fan of my favorite singer-songwriter-guitarist. I saw KJP live so many times back in the day; imagine if Bob Dylan was a guitar virtuoso, or if Tommy Emmanuel was a gifted, poetic singer-songwriter; that's Kelly Joe. You and KJP have a lot in common as musicians: tremendous technique that is always, always, always in the service of the music, and never for its own sake; a taste for subtlety, nuance, texture and character; restless, wide-ranging musical imagination; and a sort of cool, understated badassery that has nothing to prove but will blow you away nonetheless. RIP KJP, and thanks Carter for this beautiful tribute.
