I suspect the flames backfiring into the mixing chamber - maybe the jet is partly blocked or the fine mesh beneath the outlet is burned out making the holes big enough to back fire through
Hi Trev, I have the same problem and when I unscrewed the outside cover (that protects the jets & mixing chamber & keeps out debris and other rubbish,) the fine mesh you mentioned, just fell out into my hand. Where does this mesh go? One end is rounded and is the same size as the burning head. (?) Is it meant to be fixed to the burning head or does it go elsewhere? And if it is meant to be attached to the burning head, how is that done?
@@maurieharnett5106 You need a replacement burner - The mesh screen is held against the burner outlet holes - unfortunnatly a combination of heating and cooling and motion rattles can dislodge this anti back fire measure - I suspect the mesh screen is spot welded in place but can't see - I replaced the burner on my Carver water heater which was badly rusted and the effect was amazing - loverly blue flame and hot water much quicker
