You can make a snowball with a tip on the top. You put the snowball into the water and as the water soaks through the snowball you can suck it from the tip. It filters it a bit. Eskimo style. The Inuit used to do this while skinning their hunted food so they could keep hydrated.

+Eric Lewis NO ! Bear Grylls said that you can drink your pee if you have no water filter. But don't drink water because if full of bacterias (or others pee...). Actually you can drink your pee then pee again and starting all over until you get hydrated.

Woww, da hast Du Dich mächtig ins Zeug gelegt. LG Felix

I've watched almost 20 videos on how to carve a spoon and this was the first one that I've seen that doesn't involve a hooked knife. I was impressed. I hadn't thought of burning the scoop part of the spoon. Of course i thought of carving it out but there is more risk of cutting myself.

As others have mentioned, it's good to see someone demonstrating how to use fire to hollow out a wooden utensil. Same process can be used for bowls, and if you are ambitious, log canoes. I might suggest, since you have birch bark available, that you look into how to make a cooking vessel from bark so you can just melt some snow next time you forget your water. Thanks for another thought-provoking video.

Impressive. I watched other spoon making videos that used crooked knives, but I thought "if I would go through the trouble of carrying a crooked knife just for making a spoon, why wouldn't I just carry a spoon in place of the crooked knife? Then you showed a practical method of used embers to burn the hole, and voila! No more need for crooked knife. Perhaps there are other uses for a crooked knife that makes it worth the space and weight to carry, but I don't know them.
