Mike Stinnett shares another story in his life of wood carving. This time he carves and paints an Aesculapian walking stick and takes you on a journey into the hills of Eastern Oregon.

Awesome project 👍I see Pearl is doing well although she's definitely has grown. Any chance you could talk about drying the wood. Mine always splits while drying and turns into firewood.😢 Be so appreciated

Thank you! I've had the same problem, trying to dry wood. Try sealing the end by painting it with carpenters glue and put it in a cool dry place for a couple of years.

So refreshing to see your work. Amazing. We have a group of trees that were struck by lightning this past year at the creek. The colors from the heat of the lightning is amazing, wish there was a way you could use that wood.

Here in Spain, I have seen/caught aesculapian snakes in the wild, and i can tell you that you did a flawless recreation of them! From the pigmintation of each scales to the shape of the eye! Absolutely amazing work!

i dont care if you respond or if it is someone else, but i would like to know. what would be a good wood for carving things like this? also i honestly thought i was the only person who used old tree trunks like that to cook things. i first got the idea when i had a grill with a rusted out bottom, and sat it on an old trunk. i set it up normally, but it started burning through the trunk and actually made the food taste better. the kind of wood i had was pecan wood, as i lived on a good 20 acres of land covered in pecan trees, and, of course this was near the coast of alabama, hurricane katrina came by, and knocked some down. but now i live in tennessee. im hoping to eventually return to the land, as it is still owned and maintained by my grandparents.

Yes, I saw the weather map for Minnesota! That is too cold! It didn't get very cold over here in the West. I think the coldest it got was 16 degrees above.

Thank you very much! I've been carving for around ten years, I guess. I didn't go to any classes. Just trial and error. It's been a fun learning experience. I do have some tutorials on Patreon. Someday soon I hope to make tutorials for another platform.

U r a very talented man. Love watching ur videos, it's like it makes ur soul at peace . I got into carving a couple of years ago, and really enjoy it. What was the tool u had on ur grinder, called. Looks like a small cutting wheel ,and ur gremmill tool does it run off of battery? My favorite walking sticks u have done was the Indian and the wolf. Have u done one with a grizzly bear? Thank you, Ernest! That is a 2 inch cutting wheel for the Arbortech mini grinder. the micro carver is a portable battery operated unit. I have some links in the description.
