One of the keys to improving quickly is high quality imagery. In this video Paul Lorenz performs long carve turns slowed down to 30%. Paul demonstrates these turns on r25m GS skis and r13m SL skis for comparison.

A video suggestion: a home workout routine so people can stay fit or develop the fitness they need to perform these types of turns

I watch all your vids and you are doing great.. Im always amazes in front of a skill skier. Dont stop teaching your technique to intermediate skier. They will the thankful one day when they achive the perfect carving turn on any pair of ski...30m or 11m ski doesn’t make any difference in the quest of the perfect turn..

In the second half of the video, when skiing on slalom skis, there is an underload of the outside ski, which easily goes outside the turn and does not hold the arc. And you have to steer on the inside. Your shins are locked. An aggressive front stance can fix this.

Hi Paul, just getting back into skiing after quite a few years away and have been watching a few carving videos tonight. I was delighted to see someone actually accelerating rather than just absorbing all that rebound energy in transition. I have also noticed so many skiers out on the slopes, the last few weeks at Perisher right up to lockdown trying to put their inside hand on the snow only to drop it behind their hips rotate their hips and shoulders loose outside ski pressure wash out loose angle speed and control. Any thoughts or comments? Is emulating modern style inside hand position causing more problems? Yes I am over 50 ex racer and learnt on straight skis :)

Am a gunbarrel at Heavenly Face Rat (1,500 vert. bump run) for over 35 yrs. Really enjoy watching your awesome carve turns on the groomers. Great stuff. Am trying to add that angulation and man is it hard. This slo mo helpful. You're a top level skier, but one suggestion if possible, would suggest less up and down head movement in the bumps. Super skiing though and thank you for the tips.

Don try this. Think about letting gravity pull you over instead of trying to force the inclination or the toppling or whatever you wish to call it. I don't here anyone describing it this way but it helps me get my hip down to the snow.

Thank you for the video. I have the same slalom skis with Tip Rocker, which makes me skate aggressively in the front stance. At the same time, slalom skis with Full Camber behave more tolerant of body tilt.

Great video Paul. I'm a subscriber to your private videos. Can you guys show us sometime what your skiing warm up "session" consists of? I think many of us will be very interested... Cheers!

Seems like your right hand and pole tip are higher up and a little further back as you transition onto to your right ski, than you left hand and pole when transitioning onto your left ski?

Does anyone on the planet carve slalom skis as well as Paul Lorenz? I wouldn't bet on it

Paul, it seems like you have a very slight angle between your skis (wedge). Is it intentional or it just seems to be or?
@inquistive
@inquistive 3 года назад
#Paul serious question, what degree of slope do you think it is possible to pure carve on i.e. to carve the whole of the turn?
@mome6889
@mome6889 2 года назад
probably any degree so long so long it's not too narrow and your ski hasthe right radius. though you could of course take a higher radius ski it just takes a shit ton more work and edging to get almost horizontal (to stay on edge while controlling speed)

I am curios about your speed :) How much speed do you have when you almost touch the snow with your hip?

I'm curious about the bending at the waist. What's the benefit/function of that?
@Daniel-ol9pr
@Daniel-ol9pr 2 года назад
it helps prevent tipping in, in turn loading up much more force onto the outside ski. Focus the bending of the waist down the hill (ie chest onto the inside knee) rather than across the hill.

It's all about the inside knee!
