Carving The Greenland Paddle Full video - How to make your own Greenland kayak paddle - instructions Chuck Holst plans- www.qajaqusa.or... Carvegp.com no longer exists.
Finally found your video again. I was a bit lost when your website shut down, as I allways tell people to watch your video when they ask my advice on carving a paddle. Thanks for the video, it helped me out a lot when i was carving my first paddles, im sure it will help out lots more!
Matt, Excellent presentation, process, and finished product. I really enjoyed your talking through the why and what of your calculations and measurements, it helps provide a fuller understanding of the project.
Your video was very helpful, especially with the measuring and math. After making one for myself, I made 2 more for my parents' Christmas gifts. Thanks!
Intuitive and inspirational video...nice to know that something this beautiful and FUNCTIONAL can be made with simple wood, simple tools, and some patient craftsmanship...thank you for sharing this knowledge!!!
Nice video. Little tip - when you're shaping the paddle blades - clamp your work so you can work with both hands and the piece is stable, and rather than take short strokes with the plane, work instead along the whole length of the paddle blade with long steady strokes and shorter ones only to correct a necessary.
Matt, I just finished my first paddle, your video was extremely helpful. Thanks for such a great explanation of the carving your clear instructions were soooo beneficial!!!
Many thanks for the video, followed it and the instructions to build my dads 70th b'day present, he was very pleased. If can do it anyone can. The spokeshave is now my favorite tool, although I did cheat and buy a power plane as it was taking an age to whittle down the red cedar. Happy days
Very well explained and limited use of tools. By the way, if you have a high grade jigsaw, the cuts will be very straight. The blade is wiggly on cheaper ones. If you use larger width blades this is partially corrected.
This was great, thank you. I followed your steps and the PDF and I'm coming along nicely. I ordered a draw knife to do the final carving as I think it will be easier to do the inside cuts (as you mention - why you use the sureform tool).
what kind of wood did you use? looks like southern yellow pine I'm making a paddle now, out of and old cedar fence post i took out of the ground last year
It's ok I find out from where to download it.. my question was where I Can find the plan for this paddle. I will start very soon to macke one too! Th any way !
+bullyakker I myself have used these plans MANY times though i use different tools so i can make them much faster and easier but there's nothing like pouring your blood and sweat using hand tools to hand craft such a beloved tool (paddle) you'll use for years and years!
